Palmgard Season Summary

The 2000 Palmgard squad hung in toward the end after a sub-par 10-16 season. After dismantling during the 1998 season under Marty Ellis and sitting out the 1999 season, Palmgard expected to get back to its old form that featured 99 wins from 1994-1997. After winning only 10 regular season games in 2000, the team set out in the playoffs to prove that they were a force to be reckoned with. The season featured a slew of offensive stars that helped the team score 274 runs on the season (regular season and playoffs). The team featured 7 hitters with a .411 batting average or better. Mickey Golden lead the way with 48 hits, a .500 batting average and a .534 OBA. Four other players had 40 or more hits for the year (Humes-44, Woods-42, Bark-41, Webster-40). Rob Bark and Jim Davis tied for the home run lead with 9 a piece. Bark edged out Davis for the RBI title 41-39. Mike Woods took the doubles title with 12 on the year. Rob Bark out slugged everyone with a .920 SLG%. As a whole, the team featured a .411 batting average and pounded out 422 hits. The acquisition of pitcher Richard "Dicker" Berger midway through the season helped solidify the pitching staff as the team prepared for their playoff run. Thanks to our sponsor and the entire Palmgard team for a great season!
