Pikesville Middle School Field #2
Jilly's Turtles vs N.E.K. Entertainment
Game 1
Turtles 21  NEK 6 (5 Innings)
NEK came out slugging in game one against Jilly's Turtles and sometime starter Detour Dave Sandler with 3 runs in the 1st and 3 more in the 2nd to take a 6-3 lead. Unfortunately for NEK that's all that they could muster as they were shutout the rest of the way losing in 4 innings 21-6. A 13 run outburst by the Turtles in the bottom of the 4th put the game out of reach as all 11 Turtles contributed. Howard Rosenberg filled in for one of four Turtles out this week with a big 1st game going yard in the Jilly 2nd (a solo blast), overall going 3-3 with 3 rbi's and 3 runs scored. Mark Summerfield continued his assault on Pikesville pitching also going 3 for 3 with a long three-run homer to left, a double and single with 4 rbi's and 3 runs scored. Sandler notched his 4th win of the year against one loss.

Game 2
Turtles 11  NEK 10
In game two NEK struck 1st off 1st time starter Morty Marcus scoring two in the bottom. Jilly's had another big inning, batting 12 players and scoring 8 runs to go up 8-2 after two. NEK continued to chip away coring 4 in the 4th to narrow the lead to 9-6. Going into the bottom of the 7th the Turtles had a 4-run lead at 11-7. NEK rallied for 3 in the 7th and had men on 1st and 2nd with two out. Marcus induced a fly ball to Ricky Farley to end the scare and by virtue of the Gorgeous Watches sweep of Palmgard the Turtles jump back into 1st and take the regular season title by just one game over G.W., Palmgard and The Havanna Club. Hitting stars for the Turtles include leadoff stick Rob Ressin (2-3 with 2 runs scored), Detour Dave with a 2-4 effort, scoring 3 times and Harry Schevker, going 2-4 with 2 rbi's and a run scored. Jilly's finishes the regular season at 20-6.

Pikesville Middle School Field #3
Sky & Sky Inc vs Mount Washington Tavern
Game 1
Sky 15  MWT 1 (5 Innings)
Mt. Washington Tavern entered the day with the hopes that they could make the playoffs. If they got some help from the 2nd place Turtles with a sweep of N.E.K.Entertainment, they would need one victory over Sky & Sky to get into the tournament. They elected to be the visitors in the first game. After a quick 1-2-3 half of the first, Sky & Sky took out the lumber. Jonas Needleman and Zach Scherr each knocked in two to stake Sky & Sky out to a early 4-run lead. Three errors by a MWT outfielder opened the flood gates allowing five more to score in the b-2nd. More of the same in the b-3rd with walks, errors, and hits, giving Sky & Sky a 13 run lead. MWT did push across a run in the t-4th, but Sky & Sky answered with two of their own to coast to the 15-1 victory after 4 innings. Larry Newman got the win behind stellar defense. Scott Felton had a 2B,BB,SF while scoring twice, Zach Scherr had 2 hits,BB,2 rbi, and Mike Rottenberg went 2-2(3B,1B,3rbi,2runs).

Game 2
Sky 15  MWT 1
Game 2 featured quite a bit more intensity from MWT as they realized that they were down to their last chance to make it into the playoffs. Six of the first seven batters hit safely for Sky & Sky, however only three runs were posted as MWT nailed a runner at the plate to stop the early rally. Two more in the t-2nd for Sky & Sky including 3 doubles. Then MWT's defense clamped down retiring 8 of the next nine batters. However, the Sky & Sky bats would return as Jonas Needleman delivered a 3-run shot which propeled Sky & Sky to a 9-run lead. Scott Felton upped the ante with a Grand Slam in the t-7th over the fence in RCF. Two other meaningless homers were hit in the inning, but the damage had been done. Again the score was 15-1 as Zach Scherr got the win. David Kowitz went 4-4(2B,3 1B,4 runs) and Alan Friedman chipped in 4 hits to pace the Sky & Sky attack.

Pikesville Middle School Field #4
Kings vs Eastern Savings Bank
Game 1
Kings 6  ESB 2
The Kings clinched 5th place with an opening game 6-2 victory over 7th place Eastern Savings Bank behind the 8 hit pitching of Mike Herr (2-0). Kings Chuck Grant, who had started the last 6 Kings games was away for the weekend, resting up for the playoffs. Herr was the beneficiary of outstanding defense including 3 doubleplays started by SS Kenny Salzman(2 groundouts, 1 lineout). In Kings b-1st, a Salzman leadoff walk, Ken Zalis single, and Dave Mize RBI single got the Kings ahead 1-0. In t-2nd, ESB's Shmuel Luxenberg reached on an infield error and scored on a Mike Beverly 3B to RCF. Mark Loeb followed Beverly with an RBI single to put ESB ahead 2-1. Kings regained lead in b-2nd. Todd Katz started the inning with a single. One out later Marc Goldstein drew a walk. Salzman's flyout to LCF moved both runners into scoring position and they both scored on a Zalis single. Kings scored 3 more runs in b-4th. Consecutive 1 out singles by Herr, Goldstein, Salzman, and Zalis accounting for the runs.

Hitting stars for the Kings in the opener were Ken Zalis (3-4,3 RBI), Kenny Salzman (1-2,2 R,2 W), Shilo Merwitz (2-3) and Dave Mize (2-4,1 RBI,2B). No ESB had more than 1 hit. ESB's Ted Winner took the loss, dropping his record to 8-8.

Game 2
ESB 10  Kings 8
ESB's Tzvi Friedman hit a 2 out 3-run HR in b-6th propelling ESB to a 10-8 victory in the nightcap. The pitching match-up in game 2 pitted David Finkelstein of ESB against Kings Ken Zalis. Kings took 3-0 t-1st lead. Kenny Salzman again led off the game with a hit. Dave Mize's 2B set-up a SF by Alan Varhaftik. A Shilo Merwitz RBI double and Josh Frederick RBI single pushed across the other 2 runs of the inning. In b-1st, 3B Russ Zapacosta doubled with 1 out and scored on a 2 out single by Ben Schmell. Schmell was cut down trying to stretch the hit into a double by LF Dave Mize. Mize 2 innings later also cut down Finkelstein at second base on a similar attempt. Kings added a run in b-2nd on a Marc Goldstein SF, scoring Todd Katz. With the Kings ahead 4-1 after 3 1/2 innings, ESB rallied in the home 4th. Consecutive singles by Johnny Feldman, Zapacosta, and Alan Lazerow (RBI) began the inning. Following an infield error, a walk to Shmuel Luxenberg (RBI) forced across the 2nd run of the inning. A 2 out single by Friedman scored 2 more and put ESB ahead 5-4. Kings battled right back in t-5th. A Salzman single, Mize single, and Varhaftik 3-run HR down the LF line put Kings back ahead 7-5. Kings went up 8-5 in t-6th on singles by Katz, Mike Herr, and Zalis (RBI). In b-6th, singles by Zapacosta, Lazerow, Kory Rosenberg (RBI), and Mark Loeb (RBI) pulled ESB to within 8-7. With 2 outs and 2 on, Friedman hit a HR to RF just over the glove of Kings RF Marc Goldstein. Finkelstein was able to retire the Kings in order in the 7th for the 10-8 win.

Hitting stars in game 2 for ESB were Russ Zapacosta (3-3,3 R,2B), Alan Lazerow (2-3,1 R,1 RBI), Tzvi Friedman (2-3,1 R,5 RBI,HR), and David Finkelstein (2-2). For the Kings Todd Katz and Mike Herr were both 3-for-3.

In addition to the vacationing Grant, Kings SS Mike Pusateri missed the doubleheader while playing in a Maryland State B-class slow-pitch tournament. 3B Jan Katzen did not bring the Gatorade this week.

Pikesville Senior High Field #5
GorgeousWatches.com vs Palmgard
Game 1
GW 13  Palmgard 12 (8 Innings)
G.W. overcame 2 6-run deficits in game one to fight back and defeat Palmgard by the score of 13-12 in 8 innings. Jon Koman (an Orthopedic Surgeon who was on call and made call backs in-between innings) delivered a game winning RBI single in the bottom of the 8th inning to drive in Dr. Andrew Rosenstein (who was not on call) to propel Georgeous Watches to victory. The key play of the game for Gorgeous Watches occurred in the top of the 8th when right-center fielder Glen Ackman threw out Marty Ellis at home plate (who was trying to tag up from 3rd base) to keep the game locked at 12.

The game started with Palmgard taking a quick 6-0 lead until the bottom of the second when G.W. cut the lead in half with 2 Hr's in the inning thanks to a solo HR by Glen Ackman and a 2 -run blast off the bat of Joel Koman. Palmgard extended their lead to 12-6 until G.W. fought back in the bottom of the 6th. After manager Andrew Rosenstein gathered the team for a brief dissertation on how it stinks to be a 4th seed in the post-season tournament, Gorgeous Watches scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th to cut the lead to 12-11. After holding Palmgard scoreless in the top of the 7th, G.W. desperately needed a run to avoid dropping into 4th place. G.W. quickly got a baserunner when Craig Dlin singled for his 3rd hit of the game. After Larry Henderson lined out, Tony Luna lined a single to right field to move C. Dlin over to third. Russ Dlin then hit into a fielders choice as Craig Dlin raced home to tie the game at 12-12 and send the game into extra innings.

Game 2
GW 7  Palmgard 1
With a must win situation for both teams to decide who would finish where in the standings, G.W. pitcher Jeff Harris pitched to near perfection as he gave up one unearned run and held Palmgard to a season low 1 run. G.W got on the board in the first inning as Craig Dlin and Marty Dockerty opened the game with back- to-back singles. Russ Dlin hit a Sac Fly to score his brother Craig as G.W. took a 1-0 lead after the first inning. G.W. added 3 more runs in the 3rd inning as Bobby Morrow hit a towering H.R. to left to pad the lead to 4-1. The 4-1 lead turned into a 7-1 lead in the top of the 6th. Russ Dlin led off the 6th with a H.R. down the right field line just out of the reach of a diving Mickey Golden. Andrew Rosenstein, Joel Koman, and Jon Koman added clutch hits in the inning while Kevin Kahriger added a Sac Fly of his own to help flex G.W.'s muscles going into the top of the 7th. Palmgard went quietly in the top of the 7th as Gorgeous Watches completed the sweep.

Hitting Stars for G.W.: Craig Dlin (5/8, 4 runs scored), Joel Koman (5/7 2-run HR, 3 runs scored), Tony Luna (5/8 4 Singles and a 2B), Jeff Harris (3/5), and Andrew Rosenstein (4/7, 4 runs scored, 2 RBI).
