Pikesville Middle School Field #1
Palmgard vs Mt. Washington Tavern
Game 1
Palmgard 15  MWT 0  (4 Innings)
Palmgard was happy to be back on Fenway as they pounded out 36 hits, 7 HR's and scored 35 runs in route to 2 shut out victories.  Dave Kopel played a great shortstop all day long and Marty Ellis went deep in Game 1 with a 2-run shot on top of the hill in left.  Other key hitters in game 1:
Jim Davis (2-3, HR, RBI, R)
Jim Silvestri (2-3, 2B, 3R)
Mark Benjamin (2-3, 3B, HR, 3RBI, 3R)
Gabe Silber (2-2, HR, 2B, 4RBI, 2R)
Bob Hansen (2-3, HR, 2RBI, R)

For Mount Washington Tavern, Gabe Unterman was 1-1 with a triple.  Pitcher Larry Ott and his slow inside-outside cheese balls struck out 3 batters.

Game 2
Palmgard 20  MWT 0  (4 Innings)
Kevin Oliner followed with Palmgard's second straight shut out.  The offense got right to work and gave Oliner a 15 run lead after 2 innings.  After scoring 2 runs in the 3rd and 3 runs in the 4th, the game was called because of the 15-run rule.  Key hitters for Palmgard:
Dave Kopel (3-3, 3B, 2B, BB, 2R)
Jim Davis (2-2, SAC, 3RBI, BB, R)
Bob Hansen (3-3, HR, 2B, 3RBI, 2R)
Mickey Golden (3-3, 3B, 2B, 2RBI, 3R)
Kevin Oliner (2-2, 2B, SAC, 2RBI)
Gabe Silber (2-2, BB, RBI, 2R)

With only 4 singles and 0 runs it would be too much of a stretch to find a hitting highlight for Mount Washington Tavern, but Eric Wingrat made a few great putouts in leftfield--the last of which from deep leftfield he gunned down a shocked Palmgard player at home. One last highlight was Lee Pollack getting ejected in the 4th inning after a high strike call for asking the umpire if he was late for a breakfast date.

Pikesville Middle School Field #2

Kings vs Kelly & Associates
Game 1
Kings 7  Kelly & Associates 0
Kelly & Associates had only 7 players to start game 1 of the doubleheader. Kelly manager Andy Feinberg began working the phones shortly before 9 A.M. when it was apparent that he had an insufficient supply of players. Kelly seized upon Tom Hacket, a guy who thought he was at the school just to walk his dog. 10 minutes later Hacket was back at the school with a glove in hand. The Kings helped supply Mike O'Hagen for outfield duty, giving Kelly 9 players, but it was almost 9:30 A.M. when the 9th player actually arrived. Kings player Shilo Merwitz switched jerseys to give Kelly 10 players for Game 2.

Game 2
Kings 17  Kelly & Associates 2 ( 6 Innings)
The game was close early on, but the Kings bats cooled off by the long delay to start the game, eventually got going as the Kings won the game 17-2 in 6 innings. Kings starter Chuck Grant's(game 4-4,3 R,6 RBI,2 2B,HR) 2 out 2-run HR in t-1st put Kings on the board. Kelly's starter, Mark Rifkin hit his own HR, a solo shot in the b-2nd to pull K&A to within 2-1. Kings scored 6 runs in t-3rd. Consecutive 1 RBI hits by Ken Salzman(game 3-3,3 R,RBI, 2B), Todd Katz, Jeff Slutzker, Grant, Alan Varhaftik(game 2-4,2 R,3 RBI, 3B,HR)., and Mike Herr accounted for the runs and gave Grant a nice cushion to work with. Kings exploded for 9 more runs in t-6th. Key hits in that inning were a solo HR by rookie 3B Jim McGraw, bases loaded 3-RBI double by Grant, and 2-run HR by Varhaftik.

Grant allowed 2 hits over 5 innings, while allowing 1 earned run.  Jeff Goldstein pitched the final inning for the Kings. Grant has allowed just 4 hits in 9 innings on the season, with only the 1 earned run. Scott Katzen and Jan Katzen missed the doubleheader Sunday--both were recovering from Scott's bachelor party in Atlantic City on Saturday night. Ken Zalis was sufficiently healed from an ankle injury to make his first appearance of the season.

Pikesville Middle School Field #3
Sky & Sky Inc  vs  Turtles
Game 1
Turtles 14  Sky & Sky Inc 3
Game 1 between The Turtles and Sky & Sky could have been more accurately called the Eisey show. He was masterful through 5 innings giving up only two hits to Brian Kowitz while facing 18 batters. Meanwhile The Turtles methodically manufactured runs in every at bat using double tags, errors, walks and a flurry of hits. Four in the t-3rd staked them out to a 7 run lead, helped by a two run blast to deep center off the bat of Lee Eidelberg. Marc Summerfield's triple contributed to two more in the t-5th. Singles, walks
and errrors allowed The Turtles to skate to a 14-2 victory as Eisey coasted to his third win of the season while Larry took the loss.

Three Turtles players had perfect 4 for 4 games in the opener. The Turtles scored at least one run in every inning. Shortstop Robbie Ressin slapped 4 singles in the leadoff spot with a walk and scored 2 times to kick-start the team. New addition, RCF Mark Summerfield was perfect as well with 2 singles, 2 doubles, 2RBI's  and 2 runs scored in his four at-bats. Bruce Eisenberg also continued his torrid hitting pace in game one with 3 singles, a double, 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored along with only allowing the powerful Sky's to touch the plate 3 times.  Brian Kowitz chipped in 3 hits of his own for Sky & Sky.

Game 2
Turtles 9  Sky & Sky Inc 8
Game two featured a much closer contest, as Sky & Sky's bats seemed to wake up. Three hits led to two runs, but The Turtles cut the deficit in half on a error by the RF. Newcomer Jonas Needleman led off the t-2nd with a solo shot, but The Turtles answered with
an RBI hit from Reggie Ellis in the b-2nd. Sky & Sky bats hammered out 6 hits to push 4 across in the t-4th, the key shot was a Larry Newman 2-out, 2-run single. Again The Turtles hung right in there with three of their own in the b-4th. The main shot again off the bat of Reggie Ellis with a 2-run rope down the hill in LF. A rare miscue in The Turtles OF allowed the third of three runs to cross in the t-5th, as Sky & Sky again enjoyed a 4-run cushion.

Eisey bore down to hold the opposition scoreless in the last two innings, as The Turtles crawled to within 1 entering the b-7th. Then in customary form, The Turtles singled their way to a win as Marc Summerfield resumed his hitting clinic with a single to LF bringing home Ricky Farley for the 10-9 com-from-behind victory. Sky and Sky lead the entire game and it wasn't until the game was over in the bottom of the 7th that the Turtles were ever ahead.

Summerfield had an amazing doubleheader to go along with the game winner. After the 4 for 4 in game one, Mark came back with a 3 for 3 nightcap including 4 RBI's. Reggie Ellis stayed hot in his second week going 4 for 4 in the doubleheader with 3 RBI's along with a solid second base. The Turtles banged out 34 hits in the 2 games with Lee Eidelberg and Rob Gould hitting homers.

Pikesville Senior High Field #5
Eastern Savings Bank  vs  GorgeousWatches.com
Game 1
GorgeousWatches.com 8  Eastern Savings Bank 3
GW started slowly in the first game. After a scoreless 1st inning GW scored three runs in the 2nd, the big blows being a 2-run homer by 3B Joel Koman and a solo shot by 1B Jon Koman. After 3 shutout innings, ESB's Johnny Feldman led off the 4th with a single and eventually scored off an error by the shortstop to give Eastern their 1st run of the game. After 4th innings GW led 5-1 lead.
With P Sonny Cherelstein mowing down expansion Eastern, 5-1 seemed a lot larger. In the bottom of the 5th, LF Tony Luna launched a 3-run homer to cap the scoring and give GW a 8-0 lead.  It wasn't until the t-7th that Eastern tried to mount a comeback, but could only muster 1 more run before the inning ended. Sonny Cherelstein got his 1st win of the season.

Game 2
GorgeousWatches.com 15  Eastern Savings Bank 3
GW didn't wait as long to start hitting in game two. Luna hit his second homer of the day to score C Larry Henderson, who had reached on a fielder's choice to make the score 2-0. 2B Andrew Rosenstein smashed a double to LC to score Russ Dlin to give GW a 3-0 lead after the top of the 1st. After being held scoreless for two innings GW finally broke out in the t-4th. Sending 14 men to the plate GW scored 11 runs to break the game open. 3B J. Koman, SS Kevin, 1B J. Koman, and P Jeff Harris all contributed 2-run hits. Henderson contributed a 3-run homer and Luna followed with a solo shot to cap the scoring. Again it took until the 4th inning for Eastern to put a run up on the board and the did it with 3 runs. It all started with Ben S hitting his 1st homer (a 2 run shot ) deep to left center. lt looked like a rally was brewing, but with bases loaded and only 1 out Eastern couldn't capitalize. GW 3B J. Koman scored A. Rosenstein, who had tripled, with a sacrifice fly to provide the margin for the early ending after five innings. Jeff Harris also got his 1st win of the season.

GW played near flawlessly in the field for the 2nd straight week.
