Kings vs Eastern Savings Bank
Game 1
Kings 16 ESB 15
ESB got the potential tying run to 3B with 2 outs in the b-7th, but Kings
managed to get the final out to hold onto a 16-15 win. ESB scored at least 1 run
in every inning of the contest. The Kings built a 3-0 lead in t-1st on a Chuck
Grant (game 1-2,3 R,3 RBI,HR,2 W) 3-run HR. ESB went ahead 4-3 on a grand-slam
HR by Shmuel Luxenberg (game 2-4,3 R,5 RBI,2B,HR) in the b-1st. The teams
exchanged single runs in the 2nd inning. Kings went ahead 8-5 in t-3rd with key
RBI hits by Alan Varhaftik and Dave Mize. The lead was short-lived as ESB
answered back with 4 runs in b-3rd. ESB RBI hits came from Russ Zapacosta (game
2-r,2 R,2 RBI,2B) and Alan Lazerow, both with 2 outs taking advantage of a Kings
fielding error. With ESB ahead 9-8 after 3 innings, Kings had hopes of pulling
away with 7 runs in t-4th off reliever Ted Winner. 4 straight hits started the
innings including RBI hits by Marc Goldstein and Shilo Merwitz(game 3-4,3 R,1
RBI,2B), while the big blow 1 out later was a 3-RBI double by Scott Katzen (game
2-4,1 R,3 RBI,2B). ESB, though again answered back with 1 run in b-4th and 3
runs in b-5th. The b-5th included RBI hits by Zapacosta and Gutman, with the
inning ending on a single by Gutman (game 4-5,2 RBI,2B) that scored 1 run while
Kings RF Marc Goldstein's throw home nailed Eric Roskes attempt to score. With
the score Kings 15 ESB 13 after 5 innings, ESB rookie pinch-hitter John Minkove
hit a HR over the RF fence to pull ESB to within 15-14. In Kings t-7th, with 2
outs 1B Josh Frederick (game 2-4,1 R,1 RBI,2B) delivered a clutch RBI single to
put Kings up 16-14. ESB again rallied in b-7th. With 1 out, Kory Rosenberg
reached on an error. Alan Lazerow hit an RBI double to score Rosenberg. Chuck
Grant then got Roskes to lineout on a comebacker to the mound. Johnny Feldman
(game 2-2,1 R,1 RBI,W) followed with an infield single, moving Lazerow to 3B,
but Grant was able to retire Gutman on a groundball to SS Mike Pusateri. Prior
to his final at-bat, Gutman was 4-for-4.
Game 2
Kings 10 ESB 6
In another close game, Kings were able to hold back ESB in the nightcap
and achieve the doubleheader sweep. Kings ability to turn ground ball
doubleplays in the 6th and 7th innings helped tremendously. Kings again

3-run HR by Scott Katzen. Kings went ahead 5-1 in b-2nd on a 2 out RBI triple by
pitcher Jeff Goldstein. ESB got 2 runs back in t-3rd with the key hit a 2 out

Sky & Sky Inc. vs Mount Washington Tavern
Game 1
Sky &Sky Inc. 12 MWT 0 (5 Innings)
Larry Newman told Sky & Sky manager Alan Friedman that he was feeling
great after the three week layoff, so Friedman decided to go with Newman in the
first game. He did not disappoint tossing a one hitter against Mt. Washington
Tavern. A poke to RF by Gabe Unterman was all that kept Newman from a perfect
game in a 5 inning rout 12-0. Jason Ott played well in LCF for MWT, but Newman
was simply in cruise control. Brian Kowitz went 3-3 HR,2 2B.
Game 2
Sky &Sky Inc. 22 MWT 10 (6 Innings)
Game two saw a much more offensive contest with a good deal of heart from
the expansion Mt. Washington tavern players. Down 17-1 in the t-4th, MWT pushed
across 2 runs to stave off an early exit and pulled within 10 after 5. However,
Sky & Sky pushed 2 across in the home half of the sixth to gain their second
victory on the day. Zach Scherr got his second win in as many tries as the game
ended 22-10. Brian Kowitz went 3-3 HR,2B,1B,BB 3rbi, Scott Felton went 4-4 HR,2
2B,1B, 4rbi, Joel Wax 3-4, 2 2B,1B, and David Kowitz had 3 hits
The Tavern gave this very winnable game away
by making many errors and fundamental mistakes. Several two out errors by the
Tavern ruined any chances of a comeback win.
Hitting Highlights;
Howard Goldberg 3 for 3 2 doubles 2 rbi
David Stein 2 for 3 1homerun 4rbi
Jason Ott had a 3run homerun
Gabe Unterman and Chad Birenbaum both were 3 for 3
