Highlights pending.

Pikesville Middle Schoolk Field #4
Sky & Sky Inc(2)  9  City Crab Turtles(6) 8
The #6 seeded City Crab Turtles faced the #2 seed Sky & Sky on a muddy field 4, with both teams struggling to stay alive and advance in the playoffs. Sky & Sky came out of the box with an early run after 2 quick outs as Brian Sky singled home Andy Bloom. They added a second run as Mike Rottenberg went deep to LF for his first stand up triple in well over a decade. They added three in the b-3rd as the top of the line-up took advantage of an uncharacteristic error to plate three. The City Crab Seafood veterans decided to start chipping away in the t-5th using some solid hitting and bloopers to pull within three. Sky & Skyimmediately answered back with three of their own as the top of the line-up again got things rolling. Brian Sky's double knocked the second run in while Brian Kowitz got the SF. Sky & Sky's comfortable 6-run lead entering the t-7th, almost proved to be their downfall. The Crabs benefited mightily from viewing Sky & Sky's collapse in game 1 last week. A combination of errors and solid hitting allowed the Crabs to tie up the game. So it was left up for the meat of Sky & Sky's order to secure the winning run. After two quick outs, and a long jog up to field #2 for the commissioner's clarification on some ground rules, Sky & Sky got rolling. Steve Truitt and Andy Bloom both hit safely. With men on 2nd and 3rd, The Crabs decided to issue the free pass to Scott Felton, loading the bases. Brian Sky promptly shot one through the box for the game winning RBI. Larry Newman got the win and Bruce Eisenberg was saddled with the tough luck loss. The final score 9-8 as Steve Truitt scored three times going 3-4, Scott Felton went 3 for 3 with 2 runs while Brian Sky played hero going 4-4 with a double and two RBI. Mike Rottenburg had the aforementioned triple going 2-3 and added an RBI.

The Crabs and Sky and Sky went at it again for the 2nd time in a month and unfortunately the results for the "well done" Crabs were much the same as their last meeting! After a tremendous comeback in their last at-bat by City Crab, Sky and Sky had one final answer, clawing to a 9-8 victory. Alan Friedman, Detour Dave and Robby Ressin arrived at 7:15 to rake the field and by game time, the conditions were playable. Sky jumped in early and often, scoring 5 runs in the first three innings. After four complete, it was 5-0 Sky. City Crab only had one single going into the 5th, but their bats started to heat-up. Donnie Weinapple led-off with a single...Lee Eidelberg then doubled him to third...after Warren Scudder lined out to Brian Kowitz, Mark Summerfield (2-3, 1 run and 2 rbi's) singled them both home to make it 5-2. Back came Sky and Sky with three more...before you knew it, it was 8-2 after a scoreless 6th inning. With their backs against the wall, facing elimination from the tourney, the Crabs found enough intestinal fortitude to come all-the-way back...Ricky Farley started it with a single, Weinapple then walked...Lee hit a gapper, but didn't see Donnie holding-up at third...they were both trapped at third and Donnie was tagged out for the 1st out of the inning. With one in and one out, Warren singled home Lee to make it 8-4. Summerfield then singled off winning pitcher Larry Newman...with two on, Dave Sandler hit a liner that was destined for centerfield...Newman, who could not handle Summerfield's smash, picked it out of the air for out number two. Reggie Ellis than walked against the shaken-up Newman, which brought Brian Wolf to the plate with the bases loaded. Wolf hit the 2nd pitch in the left-center-field gap clearing the bases, to make it 8-7. Rob Gould, did not sulk after having to sit for the first 3 inings...Gould pulled a singled past the diving Brian Sky to tie-up the game at 8-8. Sky and Sky was able to load the bases with two out...and although his uniform was filthy from several diving attempts at 2nd, Brian Sky delivered the knock-out punch, singling up the middle to finish off the Crabs. Final Score: 9-8. The game marked the end of two veterans' careers....Long-time pitcher, Bruce Eisenberg is hanging it up after many terrific seasons with Attmans, Jilly's, Turtles, Crabs. He has been an inspiration to many who have come and gone with Pikesville Softball....Happy retirement Eisey! Also, Donnie Weinapple, who came out of retirement this season to play "one more" is also calling it quits. Is there anyone in the league who has been smoother then Donnie at shortstop! Thanks for everything, Weins... Newlywed, Ricky Farley is also leaving the league...He and his new bride have taken an assignment in Omaha, Nebraska. Good Luck...you will be missed in the outfield!

Pikesville Senior High School Field #5
Quizno's(1) 9  Havana Club Cannons(3) 3
The Havana Club Cannons lost their third round playoff game to Quizno's, by the final score of 9-3. It was a 3 to 3 game into the fifth inning, but
after Rob Isennock was thrown out at home to end the top of the fifth, the Blue Wave plated five in the home half. Four of those runs scored after two
were out. For the Quizies, Joe Koman had a homerun and a three for three morning. Tony Luna also went three for three, as no other Quizno's player
had more then one hit. The Cannons stranded nine baserunners, and just could not seem to get the timely hit. However some of the Cannons players found their stroke for the early game. Mike Ginsberg hit a two run homer in the second, and Mike Dubansky had two clutch hits including a double. Mark Yokel absorbed the loss.

The Defending Champions exploded with a 5 Run- 5th inning to break open a 3-3 tie to defeat the Havanna Club Cannons by the score of 9-3. Quizno's Owings Mills jumped on the board in the 1st inning as Craig Dlin led off with a Double to start the game and was drivin in by a Tony Luna Single. The "Blue Wave" added 2 more runs in the 2nd inning as Jon Koman knocked in big brother Joel Koman with an RBI single and Todd Pobleets knocked in Andrew Rosenstein with a Sac Fly. With the score 3-3 in the 5th inning, Quizno's Owings Mills broke the game open with 5 big runs. With one out in the 5th inning and Jon Koman on 2nd base, Mark Rosenstein came up with his biggest hit of the season with an RBI Single to left field to put the "Blue Wave" in the lead 4-3. The inning continued as Lane Gordon Singled and scored 2 batters later on a Larry Henderson RBI Single. Tony "the Tiger" Luna then Doubled to move "Hondo" Henderson to Third. With 2 outs in the inning, Russ "Soon -to -be- married in 2 weeks" Dlin then delivered with a clutch 2- RBI Single to extend the lead to 8-3. Jon "King Kong" Koman added an insurance run with one of his trademark Home Runs in the 6th inning to extend the lead to 9-3. Lane Gordon closed the door in the 7th inning to seal the victory for Quizno's Owings Mills.

Notes on Quizno's Owings Mills vs Cannons:

Quizno's(1) 10  Eastern Savings Bank(4) 3
Quizno's Owings Mills advanced to the Championship game for the 3rd straight year by defeating Eastern Savings Bank by the score of 10-3. After being down 2-1 in the 2nd inning with 2 outs, Todd Pobleets delivered with a clutch 3 run H.R. to take the lead which added to his stellar defensive play throughout the game (threw out a runner at the plate, turned 2 Double Plays). With the score 5-3 in the 5th, Quizno's Owings Mills delivered again- as they did in the 5th inning of the earlier game- by scoring 4 more runs to take a commanding 9-3 lead- thanks to RBI hits by Mark Rosenstein (Triple), Larry Henderson (Single), and Andrew Rosenstein (Single). Jeff Harris contined to carve thru E.S.B's lineup like a Thanksgiving Day turkey giving up only 1 Run in the final 4 innings to record yet another victory and vault Quizno's Owings Mills into the Championship game.

Pikesville Middle Schoolk Field #4
Havana Club Cannons(3) 15 Sky & Sky Inc(2) 2  (5 Innings)
Round 4 of the playoffs saw the rematch of the #3 seeded Cannons vs. #2 seeded Sky & Sky. This game took a decidedly different turn right from the first inning as compared with last week's drubbing. The Cannons must not have taken kindly to having to drive from the high school to the middle school.Unfortunately for Sky & Sky, The Cannons chose to take out their frustration with a hitting clinic in the t-1st, highlighted by Chuck Easters opposite field, line drive, grand slam. Sky & Sky's defense even managed to turn a double play during the inning, but The Cannons still had more hits than Kasey Kaseem's top 40 countdown. They simply abused Larry Newman's offerings. All tolled, the cannons sent 15 men to the plate and drove a truck right through the gut of the defense. Catcher Mike Rottenberg had a meeting of the minds with Newman before the t-2nd, and indicated that if he was going to throw batting pratice pitches, he should at least pitch batting pratice speed. Unfortunately for the battery mates, the ingenious idea came one inning too late. The Cannons scored one earned run the rest of the game after taking their foot off of the gas, while Tom Paulshock befuddled Sky & Sky's line-up for 5 straight innings. 15-2 was the final as the hitting stars all wore red jerseys, and all strode to the plate in the t-1st. The Sky & Sky scorekeeper's pen ran out of ink coloring in all those boxes.

The Round 4 game was a different story as the Cannons sent sixteen to the plate in the first inning. Chuck Easter tripled and homered in the first,
Johnny Edelman had two singles, Brian Forthofer singled and homered, Mike Dubansky had two singles. Others who hit safely in the big inning were, Evan
Kreitzer, Jeff Kurland, Joe Mondel, and Tom Paulshock. Tom Paulshock also benefited from some wonderful defense by Mike Steller at shortstop. The
Havana Club won in five innings 15-2. Next weeks championship games could prove to be tight affairs, with statistics pointing toward an anything can happen outcome. The finals of the 2003 tournament match the top two scoring teams in the league. The Cannons however, boast a better runs against quotient.
