Quizno's vs Havana Club Cannons
Game 1
Quizno's 11 Havana Club Cannons 10
The defending champions won their 15th consecutive game (dating back to
last season) by erasing a 6-run deficit late in the game to sneak past the
Havana Club Cannons by the score of 11-10.
After being shut out for the first 3 innings, Quizno's Owings Mills finally got
on the board in the 4th. Lane Gordon started the inning with a single. Craig
Dlin then doubled to make it 2nd & 3rd. A Larry Henderson RBI groundout and a
Tony Luna RBI force out tied the game at 2 apiece. The Cannons then put up a
half dozen in the top of the 5th to increase their lead to 8-2. The "Blue Wave"
started their comeback in the bottom of the 5th when John Koman started off the
5th with a base hit follow by a 2-run HR by Corey Rizardi. Quizno's then added 2
more runs in the inning to make the score 8-6. After the Cannons scored 2 more
in the top of the 6th to make the score 10-6, Quiznos-Owings Mills began to get
the bats rolling once again. Joel Koman began the inning with a base hit. Andrew
Rosenstein then followed with a 2-run HR over the hill in left field at Fenway
to cut the deficit to 10-8. After a Walk and a Single, Mark Rosenstein then
followed with an RBI Double to cut the lead to 1. With runners at 2nd and 3rd
and the score 10-9 Cannons, Lane Gordon came up big with a 2-run RBI single to
put Quizno's Owings Mills in front 11-10. Lane Gordon then pitched a perfect 7th
innning and held on for his first victory of the season.
Notes on Quizno's Owings Mills:

Lane Gordon was a perfect 3-3 at the plate and recorded the win.

Game 2
Havana Club Cannons 11 Quizno's 9
Quizno's Owings Mills was handed their first loss of the season by the
score of 11-9. Quizno's Owings Mills got off to a hot start scoring 6 runs in
the top of the first. After the first 3 batters singled to load the bases, Russ
Dlin knocked in the first 2 runs with a SAC fly. After an Andrew Rosenstein 1B,
and an RBI 2B by Todd Popblitz, "King Kong" Jon Koman followed with a 3-run HR
to make the score 6-0. The Cannnons fought back by scoring 4 in the bottom half
of the first to cut the deficit to 6-4 after 1 inning. The bats then were washed
away as the "Blue Wave" scored only 3 runs in the last 6 innings and left the
bases loaded twice in the 3rd and 4th inning. However, it wasn't without
controversy . In the top of the 3rd with the bases loaded and the score 8-6
Cannons, Quizno's Ricky Schrieber faced a 3-1 count. On the 3-1 count, the next
pitched seemed to be way outside as the catcher could not handle the pitch. The
pitch was ruled a "strike" by the home plate umpire and the at-bat continued
after Quizno's disputed the call. On the 3-2 pitch, Ricky Schrieber then hit a
rocket that led to a 4-6-3 double play with yet another controversial call at
1st base, and the rally ended.
Notes on Quizno's Owings Mills:
Loss ended a 15 game winning streak dating back to last season.
Quizno's Owings Mills has not been swept in a double header since week 11 of last season (Palmgard)- a span of 23 games.
Jeff Harris ended his "Roger Clemens-esq"
14-game winning streak. Only 286 games shy of career win # 300.

NEK Entertainment vs Sky & Sky Inc
Game 1
Sky & Sky 7 NEK Entertainment 4
Sky & Sky struck for 2 in the b-2nd using only one hit from pitcher Larry Newman
to take retake the lead 2-1. In the b-4th they added 3 more with an RBI
jog-in-to-2nd stand-up double from Alan Smith, followed later in the inning by
RBI singles from battery mates Newman and Mike Rottenberg. Scott Felton allowed
Sky & Sky to add to the lead as he hustled around from first on a line drive
single up the middle off the bat of Brain Mekiliesky. The score wound up 7-4
with Newman getting the win and Pridgen taking the loss. Hitting was left to the
bottom of the line-up as Larry Newman had 2 of everything (hits,RBI,runs scored)
while his catcher Mike Rottenberg reached base safely in all three plate
appearances and added the RBI.
Game 2
Sky & Sky 11 NEK Entertainment2
Game 2 saw a much more balanced attack since the top of the order decided
to pitch in their fair share. Scott Felton's 2-run job to dead CF preceded
a triple by Andy Bloom under the RF's glove. Alan Smith delivered the single to
plate Bloom and push Sky & Sky to an early lead. In the t-2nd three consecutive
singles by the 8-9-10 hitters set up 2 more runs and increase the lead to 3.
Joel Wax lead off the t-5th with a double and later scored to give Sky & Sky a
4-run cushion. Then the door was closed as 5 more runs came across in the t-7th
highlighted by a Scott Felton shot into the parking lot. NEK did show flashes of
leather ending the late inning rally with the standard 10-3-2 tag out at home,
while tossing in 2 ground ball double plays in the 2nd game. Newman gained his
2nd victory while Andre Vaughn took the loss. Scott Felton paced the attack
going 3-4(2HR,1B 5 RBI).

Cougars vs Northwest Corridor
Game 1
Cougars 3 NWC 1
The Cougars came out to play after a long spring break. Darron Tabatznik
pitched a great game to give the Cougars their first win of the season.
Tabatznik threw with all kinds of movement allowing NWC to get only a handful of
hits. The majority of the innings had the Cougars going out for three batters
and getting back to batting. RBI's from Darron Tabatznik, Brad Rosenberg and
Dave Michaelson to gave the Cougars the game.
Game 2
Cougars 6 NWC 4 (9 Innings)
The Cougars didn't compose till the 4th inning. Holding the NWC to a 3
run spot, the Cougars got right back to work with an RBI triple from Brad
Rosenberg. To keep the brotherly tandem Kory Rosenberg hit a long SF to bring
his team 1 run shorter. After loading the bases via 3 walks, Matt Friedman was
able to poke a little shot to put the Cougars up by one. In b-6th, NWC fought
back to tie it at 4-4. Cougars Rich Schneider left the game a with a sore
shoulder and a great pitching effort. From the 6th inning to the end of the
game, Darron Tabatznik, did his job having his team field out 123 in the 7th,
8th, and 9 innings. Then in the 9th inning, the Cougars took the lead with two
runs, and held NWC scoreless in their half of the inning to win the game 6-4 in
extra innings.

Kings vs Eastern Savings Bank
Game 1
ESB 10 Kings 7
Eastern Savings Bank took advantage of sloppy Kings defense in building a
7-1 lead after 2 1/2 innings off of Kings starter Mike Herr. The Kings committed
1 error in each of the first 3 innings, each error costing the Kings at least 1
run. Kings scored 3 runs in b-3rd with the key hit a Dave Mize 2-RBI HR to make
things close, but ESB added 1 run in t-6th and 2 runs in t-7th to assume
commanding 10-4 lead. The Kings threatened in the b-7th, but fell short and lost
10-7.
Key hitting stars in game 1 for ESB were Tim
(3-4,1 R,2B) and Aaron Shifrin (3-3,1 R,1 RBI). For the Kings, multi-hit game
came from Ken Zalis (2-3,1 RBI,2B,SF), Jan Katzen (2-3,1 R), and Shilo Merwitz
(2-2,2 R,W).
Game 2
ESB 4 Kings 3 (9 Innings)
Game 2 was a well pitched game by both starters--Ted Winner of ESB and
Chuck Grant of the Kings. Grant allowed just 8 hits, while Winner yielded 11
hits, both pitchers throwing 9 innings. ESB took 1-0 lead on a Winner RBI single
in b-1st. Kings scored 2 runs in t-4th to take 2-1 lead. Dave Mize's RBI single
tied score and Alan Varhaftik's SF gave Kings the 2-1 lead. ESB resumed lead in
b-5th. In that inning Schmuel Luxenberg and Aaron Shifrin singled to start the
inning, with the runners moving up to 2nd and 3rd base on a Kings error. Chuck
Grant struck out the next 2 ESB batters, but Alan Lazerow looped a 2 out 2-RBI
single into CF to put ESB ahead 3-2. Grant proceeded to strikeout the final
batter of the inning, for a very rare strikeout of the side. In Kings
t-6th, Shilo Merwitz's single scored Dave Mize with the tie run, 3-3. The teams
played excellent defense throughout the rest of the game. In ESB's b-9th,
Luxenberg hit a 1 out bases loaded SF scoring Tim, just ahead of Kings LF Alan
Varhaftik's throw. The Kings appealed Tim leaving the base early, but to no
avail.
Offensive stars in game 2 for ESB were Tim (2-4,2 R) and Alan Lazerow (2-3,1 RBI). The offensive stars for the Kings were Ken Zalis (3-4,1 R) and Justin Ott (2-4,2B). ESB got outstanding defense on the day from 3B Aaron Shifrin and 2B Alan Lazerow.

City Crab Turtles vs Palmgard
Game 1
Turtles 17 Palmgard 0 (5 Innings)
City Crab started the game with a 1st inning 10 run lead and never looked
back! Eisenberg was in rare form shutting down the Palmgard squad with ZERO RUNS
and only 8 singles for the entire game.
Sporting their new City Crab Logo shirts, the
month long inactivity was the rest that the weary "Seafood Company" needed,as
they clobbered Palmgard 17-0. The "crustations" sent as many players to the
plate in the 1st inning as they scored runs in the game with 17. Donnie
Weinapple, was in mid-season form, with 2 base-hits in the inning, scoring twice
and knocking in 4. Lee Eidelberg also had two hits in the inning including a
triple off loser Mike Johnson. With two in the 2nd and three in the 4th, the
Crabs peppered Palmgard to an easy 5 inning victory. Eisey went the route for
his 4th victory against 2 losses. There were many hitting stars in game one for
the Crabs...Eidelberg went 2-3 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI's. Ricky Farley
scored twice and went 2-3... Detour Dave went 2-3 with a walk and a run scored
along with an RBI.Overall the Crabs banged out 18 hits in their 4 times to the
plate.
Game 2
Turtles 12 Palmgard1
Glad to see Marty back in rare form, pitching well, but giving no
lectures to the Umpire. This game was a pitchers dual for the first 5 innings
with City Crab leading 3-1 going into the 6th inning. Then the hitting clinic
started with City Crab picking apart the Palmgard team "leg by leg" scoring 9
runs in 2 innings shutting down Palmgard for the remainder of the game. With
these new compression balls, Jim Davis was the only player to hit 2 doubles
which resulted from ground balls passing through the infield. ALL fly balls were
caught by Dave Sandler's spectacular plays in left field. We think he was either
using a 25" outfielders glove or a butterfly net !
In game two, Palmgard came back with their ace, Marty Ellis,
still smarting from a leg contusion suffered back on May 11th. Ellis was
in-control and threw a lot harder than his teammate Johnson. The result was a
much lighter start to the contest compared to game one. After 3, the game was
close, with City Crab clawing to a 3-1 lead. Several spectacular defensive plays
by both teams including an over-the-shoulder grab by Dave Sandler in left-field
on a shot by Gabe Silber saved two runs...Silber then returned the favor with a
diving grab of a Reggie Ellis liner that was destined for centerfield.
Palmgard's defense also had many outfield assists keeping the game in reach.
But, Eisey kept working his way out of jams, allowing only the one run as the
Crabs finally got the sticks going, scoring 4 in the 6th and 5 in the 7th going
away with the sweep 12-1. Leadoff hitter Robbie Ressin (on antibiotics after a
102 degree fever) went 3-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Donnie Weinapple remained on fire (like Old Bay) going 3-4 with 3 RBI's and 3
runs scored. Brett Eisenberg had a terrific double-header going 4-6 and playing
a more than adequate right-center, as the Crabs were without Brian Wolf, Rob
Gould and Catcher Jeff Michaelson. It was a great Fathers Day present for Crab
Dads!
Next week it's the great rivalry of Quizno's vs. Crabs, field 3, as the race for
the regular season tightens.
