4-0.
Game 2
Eastern Savings Bank 16 Northwest Corridor 4
(5 Innings)
NWC started game 2 trying to erase the horrors of the previous game.
Three straight singles to the start the game led to a NWC 4-1 lead going into
the 3rd inning. ESB started their attack then by taking advantage of 4 walks and
3 errors by NWC. ESB scored 9 runs in the 3rd and 7 more in the next two innings
to dispose of a sloppy NWC team.
In game 2 NC showed some life by scoring 4
quick runs. ESB's usually sound defense didn't help Winner by committing 3
errors. ESB got one back in the second on a monster shot that hit the wall of
the school on a bounce. ESB had a quick talk before the bottom of the 3rd that
got everyone's juices going. By the time the inning was over ESB scored 9
runs to take a commanding lead 10-4. The big hits in the inning were a 3 run
triple by Ben Guttman and another mammoth shot by Luxenberg that went even
further than the first one he hit. NWC was shut out the rest of the way by a
dominating performance by Winner who improved to 4-2 and ESB scored 3 in the 4th
and 3 in the 5th to win 16-4 and to keep their 8 game winning streak alive.

Kings vs Quizno's
Game 1
Quizno's 12 Kings 11
Russ Seamster hit a 1 out 2 run walk-off homerun over the rightfield fence to
give Quizno's a come-from-behind victory in game 1 over the Kings. The Kings had
tallied for 3 runs in the top of the 7th to assume lead 11-10, but with 1 out in
the b-7th, Todd Poblitz reached on an infield single and Seamster launched an
0-1 change-up off of Kings reliever Chuck Grant. Dan Frignito was the emergency
starting pitcher for the Kings and pitched 5 innings, keeping the Kings in the
ballgame. Kings grabbed 3-0 lead in t-2nd on 2 out 2-RBI double by Marc
Goldstein and RBI single by Dave Roogow. Quizno's got 2 runs back in their half
of the inning on Bobby Morrow's monstrous HR shot to LCF. Quizno's pushed across
4 more runs in b-3rd. RBI single by Jeff Harris, 2-RBI single by Seamster, and
RBI single by Jon Koman producing the runs. Harris came thru with an RBI single
in b-4th putting Quizno's ahead 7-3. Kings pulled close with 3 runs in t-5th.
After retiring the first 2 batters, Quizno's starter Lane Gordon yielded single
to Kenny Salzman, walk to Ken Zalis, RBI single to Shilo Merwitz, and 2 RBI
single to Frignito. Quizno's led 7-6 into the b-5th and scored 3 more times. Key
hits were RBI singles by Seamster and Morrow. Kings pulled close again, 10-8 in
t-6th on RBI singles by Mike Herr and Marc Goldstein. Chuck Grant relieved
Frignito in the b-6th and held Quizno's scoreless. In t-7th, Zalis and Merwitz
singled to start things and Frignito's grounder was booted, scoring Zalis. Dave
Mize was walked intentionally to load the bases and Alan Varhaftik followed with
a SF to tie the score. Josh Frederick singled with 2 outs to put the Kings up
briefly 11-10. Seamster's heroics in the bottom of the 7th not only won game 1
for Quizno's, but sent the Kings into a mental funk for game 2.
Game 2
Quizno's 9 Kings 4
Kings bats were anemic in game 2, managing just 7 hits off of Quizno's Jeff
Harris. Kings Shilo Merwitz doubled home Ken Zalis in b-1st, but that would be
the only time the Kings would lead in the game. Quizno's bats put together their
trademark rally with the first 5 batters in the t-2nd scoring, with 6 runs total
coming across in the inning. Key RBI hits came from Bobby Morrow, Mark
Rosenstein (2-RBI 2B), Marty Dockery (RBI 2B), and Todd Poblitz. Quizno's
extended their lead to 8-1 in t-5th on singles by Poblitz and Seamster followed
by a 2-RBI double by Tony Luna. Kings rallied for 3 runs in b-6th, but fell well
short in the nightcap 9-4.
Game notes:
The doubleheader was much quieter than usual for the 15 year rivalry as Quizno's
was without the services of Larry Henderson (the main reason for the
peacefulness), Russ Dlin, Craig Dlin, and Joel Koman. Kings Chuck Grant now has
199 career hits in a Kings uniform. Earlier this season Ken Zalis achieved hit
#100, Marc Goldstein hit #200, and Alan Varhaftik #300.

NEK Entertainment vs City Crab Turtles
Game 1
Turtles 9 NEK 6
City Crab took two from pesky NEK, but it was anything but easy! Risking
forfeit, as the opening game deadline approached, the Crabs acquired the
necessary 9th player to be able to start just before 9:15 AM. Somehow Cougars
player John Cougar was recruited as the necessary 9th guy for the Crabs. NEK
opened the scoring with a single tally in the top of the 2nd. The Crabs added 4
of their own in the bottom...the key hit was a 2-out single by Detour Dave (1-5,
with 2 RBI's) to plate two runners. NEK was right back in it after scoring four
of their own in the top of the 4th. But a solo homer by Donnie Weinapple (2-4, 1
run and 2 RBI's) and a sac fly from Reggie Ellis gave the Crabs a two-run lead
at 7-5. Eisey only allowed NEK one more run the rest of the way...the Crabs
added two more in the 6th to win 9-6. Warren Scudder went 3-3 with three runs
scored and leadoff hitter, Rob Ressin, continued to set the table, going 4-5,
with a run scored and an RBI. Eisey recorded his 6th win of the season.
Game 1 started off a bit awkwardly for NEK.
Rashaad Johnson volunteered himself to go and fill in for the Turtles so as to
play 2 games and not take a cheap W with a forfeit. It turned out to be just for
a 1/2 of an inning as the
Turtles produced a 9th player from one of the other Pikesville teams that had
extra guys. the 1st inning went by quietly foe both teams as we went into the
second with no score. NEK's Neal led off the top of the second with a long HR
down over the rightfielders head. The Turtles came back in the bottom of the
second with 4 to take a 4-1 lead. Nek gave up 1 more run in the bottom of the
3rd to go down 5-1. NEK tied it up with a 4 run top of the 4th capped by a long
triple by Jason. The Turtles came out in the top of the 4th with 2 runs and
never looked back taking a 9-6 win.
Hitting stars for NEK in Game 1 were:
David (Bern) Pridgen 4-4, 1 HR, 3 1B, 1 RBI
Frederick Neal 1-3, 1HR, 1RBI
Jason 1-3, 1 3B, 1RBI
Game 2
Turtles 15 NEK 3 (5 Innings)
In game two, after the Seafood Company settled down, the Crabs clawed
their way back on track. They scored three in the 3rd, 4th and 5th and exploded
for 6 in the 6th going away in 6 innings, 15-3. Another big fly from Weinapple
in game two, lead the way. This time, a three-run shot to left-center (1-3, HR,
3RBI and 1 run). Other hitting stars for the crustations included Rob Ressin
(3-5, 2 runs and 4 RBI's) going 7-10 in the twin bill. Slumping catcher, Jeff
Michaelson finished off NEK with a bases clearing triple, going 1-3 with 4
RBI's. The Crabs are still in the hunt, but all of the teams ahead of them swept
double-headers, leaving them 2 games behind Quiznos going into the last 4 weeks
of the regular season.
Game 2 was a different story as NEK never got
their game going. As hot as it was out their they were as cold as ice with the
bats. The Turtles jumped out to a lead and never had to look back. The hitting
stars for NEK in the second
game were hard to find but were:
Gene (Bop) 1-2, 1HR, 1RBI
Pete 1-2, 1 1B, 1RBI
Steve Hanson 1-3, 1 3B 1RBI

Havana Club Cannons vs Cougars
Game 1
Cannons 21 Cougars 1 (4 Innings)
The Havana Club Cannons completely steam rolled the expansion Cougars
this morning in both games. After batting around the line-up twice in the bottom
of the third inning of game one, the Cannons led 21 to 1, and that was the final
score of the three and a half inning affair. Mark Yokel claimed the pitching
win, and he aided his own cause with a homer to left center in the third after
singling earlier in the inning. Brian Forthofer and MIchael Dubansky also
blasted homeruns while they each were four for four as well. Neal Charkatz was a
healthy three for three and every Cannons player scored a run in the opener.
Game 2
Cannons 12 Cougars 0 (5 Innings)
The Cannons played some good defense today and blanked the Cougars in
game two by the score of 12-0. Tom Paulshock got the game two win, and again the
third inning proved decisive. The Cannons ran wild on the bases and this game
also was halted early, although it did make it through five full. Brian
Forthofer homered again, and was joined in the long ball celebration by Mike
Steller. Forthofer knocked in eight runs on the day.

Sky & Sky Inc. vs Palmgard
Game 1
Sky & Sky 15 Palmgard 8
Sky & Sky struck early in the game with 4 in the b-1st. Scott's Felton's
2-run double followed by Brain Mekiliesky's triple did the damage. Palmgard cut
the lead in half with triples by Mickey Golden and Grailen Archie in the t-3rd,
only to see Sky & Sky's top of the line-up again do damage in the b-3rd. RBI
doubles by Steve Truitt, Andy Bloom, and Scott Felton got the inning off to a
hot start, while Jonas Needleman and Eric Gertner delivered RBI hits to cap the
five-run inning. Sensing that things were slipping away, Palmgard answered with
4 of their own in the t-4th. Two errors on the same batter allowed Jeff Sacks to
scurry around the bases. Gabe Silber, and a hobbled Jim Silvestri singled and
then scored on Bob Hansen 3B. Palmgard pulled to within 2 runs as leadoff hitter
Grailen Archie singled and then scored on a sloppy Sky & Sky defensive play. The
top of Sky & Sky's order again brought the lumber, and after 6 hits and 2 SF,
Sky and Sky sat comfortably on a seven run lead. The final score was 15-8 as
Larry Newman gained the W while Marty Ellis took the loss. Hitting stars for Sky
& Sky were Steve Truitt(4-4,3 2B,1B,2RBI,2 runs) Scott Felton(3-4,3 2B,4 RBI,3
runs), and Jonas Needleman(2-3,2 RBI,2 runs). Palmgards' attack was paced by
Grailen Archie(3-4,3B,3 runs) Scott Bloom(3-4), and Gabe Silber(2-2,BB).
Game 2
Sky & Sky 15 Palmgard 8
Game 2 saw a more balanced attack from the Sky & Sky hitters. The two
teams traded runs in the first, and then the pitchers took control for a few
innings. But, with two outs in the t-3rd Andy Bloom popped one into RF and slid
head-first under the awaiting tag of the Palmgard catcher for a dramatic HR. In
the t-4th Sky & Sky increased their lead to 5 with another 5 hit-inning. A solo
shot by Scott Felton followed by another Brian Sky 3B tacked on two more for Sky
& Sky, who began to pull away from Palmgard thru 5 innings. Four hits in a row
to start the t-6th, allowed Sky & Sky to pad the lead. Palmgard put up a few in
the b-7th, but the game ended 11-4 as Newman again got the victory and Marty
Ellis took the loss. Newman helped his own cause with 3 hits while Eric Gertner
added 3 2B in the nightcap.
