Game 2
Kings 9   NEK Entertainment  5
NEK regrouped for game 2, and in fact led 5-4 after 4 1/2 innings, but the Kings rallied with some clutch 2 out hitting and took the nightcap 9-5. Dan Frignito got the pitching call in game 2 for the Kings, going up against NEK's David "Bern" Pridgen. Kings took 4-1 lead in the b-2nd, keyed by RBI singles from Mike Herr, Marc Goldstein, and Kenny Salzman. In t-4th, NEK's Rashaad Johnson led off the inning with a single, followed by a Jason Gardner 2-RBI HR to RCF. With the Kings up 4-3 after 4 innings, Kevin Purnell and Bop started the NEK 5th with basehits. One out later, Mikey singled home Purnell. Still with 1 out, Rashaad Johnson popped out to 2B, but Bop was aggressive on the base paths and scored on the infield sacrifice fly, giving NEK a 5-4 lead. In b-5th, Kenny Salzman drew a 1 out walk. Following the 2nd out, Shilo Merwitz singled to keep the Kings rally alive and Dan Frignito's also singled, scoring Salzman with the tie run. With the score 5-5 into b-5th, the Kings loaded the bases with 1 out and Richard Wong hit a SF to RCF bringing home Josh Frederick with the go-ahead run. Dave Roogow proceeded Wong with a 2 RBI single and Salzman followed with an RBI single, putting the Kings up 9-5. Frignito pitched a complete game and earned his first league win.

Each team had 10 hits in the game. Multi-hit games for NEK came from Mikey (2-3,1 R,1 RBI), Jason Gardner (2-3,1 R,2 RBI,HR), and Kevin (2-3,1 R,2 2B). The bats were a little better from NEK this game with contributions from Kevin Purnell, Rashaad Johnson, Steven Georgie, Eugene Mattison, Steve Hansen, Kenny Hyman, and a two run homer by Jason Gardner.  It was a tough fought game with several league changes, but the Kings pulled out a tough one.

Pikesville Middle School Field #2
Sky & Sky Inc. vs Havana Club Cannons
Game 1
Cannons  14  Sky & Sky Inc. 1
Mark Yokel played with the Sky & Sky hitters for six straight innings inducing 11 fly outs while facing 20 batters. His defense barely broke a sweat during that time frame. A single in the b-7th was misplayed by the LCF which prevented the shutout, as he continued to delight the Cannons' fans, coasting to victory 14-1 over Larry Newman.

Game 2
Cannons  7  Sky & Sky Inc. 1
Game 2 saw a much closer contest as both pitchers had their 'A' game on display. Sky & Sky scratched out 1 in the t-2nd on an exceedingly close play at first, thanks to some hustle and a blown call. Things stayed quiet until the b-5th when the Cannons managed to grab the lead back, notching two in the inning. Tom Paulshock kept the Sky & Sky bats silent the rest of the way. His team comfortably placed him ahead to stay with 5 more in the b-6th, as he gained the victory 7-1 over Larry Newman.

Eastern Savings Bank vs Quizno's
Game 1
ESB 9  Quizno's   2
ESB cashed in on some sloppy play by Quizno's- Owings Mills as ESB Pitcher Ted Winner led ESB to victory by defeating the defending champions 9-2. Quizno's
Owings Mills could only congure up only 1 extra base hit the entire game- a Russ Seamster double in the 7th inning- whilte scattering a total of 12 hits.  Q.O.M got on the board in the first inning as Larry Henderson and Todd Poblitz singled. Russ Dlin followed with an RBI bloop single to take a 1-0 lead.  The score eventually turned quickly as ESB scored 6 in the top of the 4th inning off a few Quiznoi's errors to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Quizno's Owings Mills could not find the answer as Winner turned Quizno's Owings Mills into losers for only the 2nd time this year.

Quizno's Owings Mills Notes for Game #1:
* 1 Extra Base Hit- Least in Franchise History
* 2 Runs Scored- Lowest since scoring only 4 runs (vs Bruce Eisenberg- Turtles) week #1 of the 2002 season- a span of 42 games.

Pitcher Jeff Harris continued his dominance in the league by holding ESB scoreless thru the first 3 innings to preserve a 1-0 lead going into the 4th. Quizno's Owings Mills extended their lead in the 4th as Andrew Rosenstein knocked in Russ Dlin with an RBI Single. After a flyout by Todd Poblitz, Russ Seamster then singled to move Rosenstein to third. Jon Koman then connected on a clutch 2 out -2 run RBI triple to extend the lead to 4-0. Pikesville Middle School Field #4
Palmgard vs Cougars
Game 1
Palmgard  17  Cougars 5  (6 Innings)
Palmgard jumped off to a quick 2-0 lead in the t1 on a walk to Archie Grailen, an error, Scott Bloom's Sac Fly and an rbi 2B by Jim Davis. Marty Ellis was cruising along 2-0 when the Cougars exploded for 5 runs in the t3 to take a 5-2 lead. Palmgard got 2 runs back in the b3 on a HR by Jim Davis to cut the Cougars' lead to 5-4. Palmgard took the lead for good in the b4 with 4 runs to make it 8-5.. Singles by Dave Kopel and Gabe Slber were followed by a long HR into the parking lot by Bob Hansen. Marty Ellis knocked in the last run on a SacFly. The game was broken wide open in the b5 when Palmgard added 6 more runs. Scott Bloom and Jim Davis started off with 2B's, followed by free passes to Mickey Golden and Dave Kopel. Gabe Silber's SacFly knocked in one run, a 2B by Bob Hansen another and a 2B by Ron Bondroff knocked in two more runs. An rbi 1B by Marty Ellis ended the scoring. Three runs in the b6 closed out the Palmgard scoring for a 15-5 final. Winning pitcher was Marty Ellis. Palmgard attack was led by Scott Bloom 3/3, 3B, SF; Jim Davis 3/4, HR, 4 rbi and Bob Hansen 3/4, HR, 5 rbi.

Cougars showed a bit of what their bats can do for them by posting a 1 run game after 3 inning with little pokes from Basoco, Michaelson, Newman and Kenya incorporated with a monster blast over the middle outfield from Lou Gitomer.  Kory Rosenberg and Adam Fishbine hustled the 3b line tackling 2 of 5 foul balls near the bleachers. Darron Tabatznik pitch 5 innings to do his best for the Cougars to stay in the ball game. Four hitter went 2-for-3 in game one as did RBI's coming from Newman Basoco, Michaelson and 2 from Gitomer.

Game 2
Palmgard  16  Cougars 13
Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a monster HR by Shawn Wettig in the t1. Palmgard got 2 in the b1 and 8 more in the b2 to take control at 10-2. Key hits were 2-run 2B by Scott Bloom, 2-run 1B by Jim Davis and 2 run 2B by Bob Hansen. However, the Cougars and Shawn Wettig were not through as Wettig hit another 3-run homer to close the gap to 10-6. Palmgard continued to add to their lead in the next 3 innings and led 16-7 after 6. Once again the Cougars refused to give up in the sweltering heat and scored 6 runs in the t7 and had 2 more runners on base before Mike and the Palmgard defense could finally douse the rally. Final score was 16-13 with Mike Johnson going the distance and picking up the win for Palmgard. Palmgard hitting was led by Glen Ackman, Scott Bloom, Jim Davis, Mickey Golden, Gabe Silber and Mike Johnson with 2 hits each.

Game 2 of the hottest game to date for the Cougars came with  the Cougars up by 1(3-2) after the 1st.  But Palmgard blew out in the 2nd inning sending their full roster to the plate with live bats.  A few small amounts of ruling were misinterpreted and the Cougars played on in protest of a called interference.  It would haunt them through the game with another questionable call by blue.  Rich Schneider did his best having a a batter walk then a 123 inning in the b-4th.  Although getting fired up and heated from not only the heat, the Cougars directed their unhappiness and being down by 9 (16-7) through their bats sending 7 clutch hits and one monstrous bomb from Shawn Wettig to come close 16-13.  Having the bases cleared the Cougars tried to keep the rally going, but to no avail the balls started hitting into Palmgard gloves.  Shawn Wetting went 3-4, 7 RBI and 3 HR.  Other RBI contributors were Schneider, Tabatznik, Rosenberg and Feinstein.

Pikesville Senior High Field #5
City Crab Turtles vs Northwest Corridor
Game 1
Turtles 14  NWC 10
The crabby turtles got off to a quick start in the 1st inning after a Rob G hr that made it 4-1. Led by an Aaron Birenbaum triple the NWC tied it up in the 2nd 4-4. There would be 3 lead changes after that as the NWC used Holden Berlin's 2 run homer to take a 9-8 lead into the 5th inning. Tied 10-10 going into the bottom of the 6th the Turtles showed some veteran plate discipline. Drawing a couple walks that led to the game winning hit by Rickey ( farley? ). The game was tight from start to finish but the standings will remain the same with the NWC at the bottom and the crabby turtles at the top.

In what appeared to be a mismatch going in, winless Northwest Corridor went up against the steamed City Crab ballclub. And it was two closely played games before the Crabs swept the double-header 14-10 and 14-8. In game one...The Crabs opened with a four-spot with Rob Gould delivering the key hit (triple over the right-center-fielders head). Gould, in the opener had that sweet swing going (3-4, 2 runs and 3 RBI). But NWC stormed back with three in the top of the 2nd to tie it up at four. Back came the Crabs with another four spot. Mark Summerfield (3-4, 2 runs and 5 RBI) had the big shot with a 2 run double to put City Crab up 8-5, after three. Another big inning from NWC put them into the lead for the 1st time...they posted a four-run inning of their own leading 9-8 after four. But the hot and bothered crustations thrive when the temperature is up...they scored two in 5th and four in the 6th to finish off a great NWC effort. Eisey went the route for his 8th win.

Hitting stars for the Northwest Corridor:
Joey Liner 3-4 2runs
Howard Goldberg 3-4 1r 3rbi
Aaron Birenbaum 3-4 2rbi 3b 1r
Holden Berlin 2-3 hr 2rbi 2r

Game 2
Turtles  14  NWC 8
Game two was just as entertaining and almost as close. the turtles jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the top of the 3rd. Going into the bottom of the 3rd the NWC got right back into the game sparked by a Howard Goldberg grand slam and a Holden Berlin 2 run homer. The turtles pushed 1 more accross in the 4th and 3 more in the 5th. That was the only cushion they would need as the NWC fell short again 13-8. Maybe we'll have better luck next week when we play the kings on the fields named after our team.

In the night-cap...The Crabs hung another 14 runs on the board, but another game effort by NWC kept in close. It looked like City Crab was going to finish NWC off early. Scoring three in the 1st and six in the 3rd to take a 9-0 advantage. But, NWC posted a half-a-dozen themselves in the 3rd to make it 9-6 after three. A single run in the 4th...three in the 5th and one-more in the top of the 7th allowed the Seafood Company to pull away and register their 9th win against three losses. Eisey got his 9th win against two losses and went 2-4 with a run scored and an rbi in the leadoff spot for absent Robbie Ressin. Detour Dave, making his 1st start at 1st-base since playing with the Kings several years ago, went 3-3, with 2 runs scored. Scott Moffet reappeared in the doubleheader, going 2-2 with 2 runs scored and 2 rbi's in game two. John Frederick also had a dandy game two with two hits in four plate appearances and four big rbi's. With a move to the new North-west Regional Park next week, a big game will take place between Sky and Sky and the Crabs as the battle for playoff position continues.

Hitting stars for the Northwest Corridor were:
Joey Liner 3-4 2r
Howard Goldberg 3-4 1r 4rbi grand slam
Holden Berlin 2-3 2r 2rbi 1hr
