Pikesville Middle School Field #1
Kings vs Cougars
Game 1
Kings 22  Cougars 10 (5 Innings)
The Cougars went out to a 4-0 lead in the t-1st with Nick Cheseldine and Matt Friedman contributing RBI hits. Kings though scored 9 times in the b-1st and never looked back after that. Kings starting pitcher Mike Herr hit an RBI single to tie the score 4-4 and 2 batters later rookie 3B Richard Wong (game 2-3,3 R,4 RBI,HR,W) hit a 3-run HR to give the Kings the lead. In addition to Wong hitting a HR in his first Kings game, other newcomer LCF Dan Frignato went 4-4 with 2 HR's, 4 R, 5 RBI. Kings Kenny Salzman (3-4,2 R,2 RBI,W) and Ernie Stephenson (3-5,2 R,1 RBI) also were prominent figures in the offense.

Showing their first year potential, the Cougars held most of there own in the field as well. Committing only 2 errors in the field for game one. Alex Newman led the defensive plays while Lou Gitomer showed them the way with his long ball. Rich Schneider pitched a consistent game to open the morning well.

Game 2
Kings 23  Cougars 10
Kings convincingly took the nightcap 23-10. The Kings, though, were never able to maintain a 12 run lead over the battling Cougars until the 7th inning. Kings hit 3 more homeruns in game 2-- Dan Frignato (3-4,4 R,3 RBI,2B,HR,2 W), Alan Varhaftik (3-4,4 R,2 RBI,2B,HR,W), and Marc Goldstein (3-4,3 R,4 RBI, HR,W).  Jan Katzen (3-4,3 R,4 RBI,2B,W) and Mike Herr (3-4,2 R,2 RBI) also had 3 hit games. Ken Zalis threw a complete game.

Game 2 brought much more cohesion for the Cougars including a 6-4-3 double play. They grew again with Lou Gitomer showing the way and rallying in the 3rd and fifth inning. Darron Tabatznik held a closer game than the first today, while Alex Newman anchored the team again with defense. The gang in the outfield showed the hill a step or two to keep the Kings in front of them defensively. All and all, the possibilities for the Cougars look to be starting in the right direction

Pikesville Middle School Field #2
Havana Club Cannons vs City Crab Turtles
Game 1
Cannons 16  Turtles 1
The Havana Club Cannons opened the 2003 season with the very competitive City Crab club. The regular season defending champions only managed two hits
though, as Mark Yokel and the Cannons, earned a 16-1 victory. With the score 2-1 after one inning, Neal Charkatz got a lead off single. After an out, Mark Yokel singled and this was followed by basehits from Chuck Easter, Evan Kreitzer, and Mike Dubansky. The Cannons led 6-1 after two. In the fourth inning a Chuck Easter homerun and a Mike Stellar triple made it 9-1. In the seventh, Johnny Edelman homered during a five run outburst.

Rob Gould made the first pitch start of his career in game one. He was around the plate and filled in nicely for the late arriving Eisey. Lee Eidelberg provided the only
RBI with a single to right off Yokel in the 1st inning.

Game 2
Cannons 13 Turtles 4
Game two featured Bruce Eisenberg versus Tom Paulshock and early on Tom Paulshock suffered control problems. But, Tom settled down and threw strikes, leading the Cannons to a 13-4 second game win. Chuck Easter went four for four with two homeruns. Mike Dubansky went four for four. Brian Forthofer nailed a three run homerun to left centerfield, and Johnny Edelman hit a long homerun to left field. Mike Stellar, Neal Charkatz, and Johnny Edelman all had three hits off Eisenberg.
Eisenberg walked no one, but gave up an uncharacteristic 21 hits.

In game two Eisey returned...But the results were much the same! New, young and talented players at shortstop, leftfield and 2nd-base provided tons of offense and spectacular defense, as the Cannons made it look easy after trailing 2-0 and 4-2 to walk away with the 1st week sweep. Mark Summerfield was the only consistent bat getting 4 hits in the double header. Turtles outfielder Harry Schevker suffered a dislocated shoulder diving for a Johnny Edelman fly-ball and will be out 4-6 weeks. The Turtles will look for their 1st victory against NEK, a team the Turtles faced in round one of last year's playoff.

Pikesville Middle School Field #3
Northwest Corridor vs Palmgard
Game 1
Palmgard 21  Northwest Corridor 15
The N.W.C played with a skill, desire and heart that was never seen from last year's team. What a difference a year can make for the improvement of a young team. The experience and big hitting of Palmgard was too much in the end as they took the victory in a well played back and forth offensive battle. Hitting stars for the N.W.C. were;
Jon Lamb= 4-4 3r 2RBI Mike Lynch in his first Pikesville Men's Softball league game played an outstanding 3rd base and went 3-4 3r 4RBI Jason Ott= 3-4 3r 1RBI Hr

Game 2
Palmgard 22  Northwest Corridor 3 (5 Innings)
Game 2 The N.W.C threw First time pitcher David Stein to the mound. He displayed good control and found his pitching slot in the last 2 innings but Palmgard had already struck too early. Some bad defense and timely mistakes mixed with great hitting from Palmgard was too much for the N.W.C to come back from. Hitting stars from the Northwest Corridor was Howard Goldberg= 2-2 1r 3RBI HR.

Pikesville Senior High Field #5
Sky & Sky Inc vs Eastern Savings Bank
Game 1
Sky & Sky 15  Eastern Savings Bank 2 (5 Innings)
Sky & Sky 15  Eastern Savings Bank 2 (5 Innings) Each team had some rust from the long off-season as the first few innings seemed to breeze by for both pitchers. Finally Sky & Sky pushed a few runs across in the t-3rd aided by several ESB miscues. Then in the t-4th, two of the first four batters for Sky & Sky homered as the lead increased to 6-0. The t-5th was a the clincher for Sky & Sky as Scott Felton launched a 2-run bomb, Alan Smith tripled in one, and 6 other batters added an RBI during the inning. ESB pushed across 2 runs in the b-5th taking advantage of 3 errors and a walk. The game ended 15-2 with Larry Newman getting the victory and Ted Winner being saddled with the loss. Eric Gertner & Alan Smith paced Sky & Sky's offense both going 3-3. Winner provided his own offense with two singles in the losing effort.

Game 2
Sky & Sky 14  Eastern Savings Bank 1 (5 Innings)
Game #2 opened with ESB's Tzvi Friedman tripling home a run in the t-1st, but Sky & Sky's attack picked up where it left off. Eight of the first nine batters reached base safely as S & S regained the early lead 6-1. Scott Felton tripled one in for Sky & Sky in the b-2nd as they padded there lead to 8-1. Meanwhile Zach Scherr seemed to be mixing his pitches well and shut down Eastern's attack the rest of the way. His teammates continued there onslaught with 6 more in the b-4th led by Andy Bloom's 2-run double. Scherr earned his first win of the season 14-1 and again Winner took the loss. Steve Truitt led the way with 3 doubles, 2 RBI and 3 runs. Scott Felton went 3-3(3B,2 1B,2 RBI,3 runs) and Andy Bloom was 2-2(2B,1B,BB,3 RBI,2 runs).
