Field 3:
Game 1: Eastern Savings Bank 8 (WP-Ted Winner 1-0)
Hops Hounds 4 (LP-Jay Gomberg 0-1)
Congratulations for Rabbi Finkelstein's off season trades
and signed contracts with the Dissolved Palmgard & Legal Papers team.... What an
acquisition !
In the first inning, ESB faced a very good fastball pitcher in Jay Gomberg, and
with Zoeller's single and Jim Davis's double, Gabe Silber doubled to start the
scoring 2-0. The game was mostly quiet through 5 innings with just your basic,
singles, walks, errors mentality from ESB, just good old fashion teamwork. By
the 7th inning, Ted Winner was the commander and chief of this game, by putting
the lights out against the hounds meat of the order, with a final of 8-4.
Offensive Stars:
Hops Hounds: Jay Gomberg (2-2), Mike Beverly (1
RBI), Matt Friedman (3B), Matt Levenson (1B,2B,RBI), Alex Newman (3B)
Other Highlights:
Hops Hounds: Matt Levenson with a Willie Mays
basket catch. Skyler Newman 2 running snags in outfield. Jay Gomberg held potent
ESB offense to just 7 runs in 6 innings.
Game 2: Eastern Savings Bank 16 (WP-Dave Finkelstein
1-0) Hops Hounds 3 (LP-Kory Rosenberg 0-1) 5 Innings
ESB was gelling the second game as the scoring book looked like my 7 yr old sons coloring book! The first inning Dave K (1b) , Chris Z.(2b) and Jim Davis(2b) , pounded out a commanding 3-0 lead. Today's weather forecast was 90% chance of rain, so ESB opened the flood gates by socking 9 runs in the second inning. Kory loaded up the bases with 3 walks to set the table for Jim Davis to launch a GRAND SLAM lightning line drive over the left field fence. A few singles and walks from Jason, Gabe, Aaron, Russ and Johnny brought in several more runs. Rabbi pitched an excellent game, knowing and feeling comfortable that his interchangeable defensive players are always behind him. In the 3rd inning, the tables were set once again for Jim Davis in position to hit another GRAND SLAM, which he came up a little short this time. He smacked a TRIPLE screaming line drive to right field, yes you read it correctly, RIGHT FIELD. A few miscued relays and Jim was safely stepping on home plate. Ending the game in 5 innings 16-3.
Offensive Stars:
Hops Hounds: Alex Newman (3B)
Other Highlights:
Hops Hounds: The Hounds lost some steam in the
second game. For an expansion team, the Hounds played with spirit and finesse.
Look forward to some Hounds action this summer!
Field 4:
Game 1: Quizno's 15 (WP-Lane Gordon 1-0) Jilly's
3 (LP-Rich Schneider 0-1) 5 Innings
It didn't take long to separate the two teams in Royal
Blue today as the defending champs Quizno's took the opening week doubleheader
over Jilly's/Under Armour.
A Tidal Wave hit Field #4 as Quizno's Owings Mills began their quest for a
3-peat by manhandling the Turtles by the score of 15-3 in 5 innings. The "Blue
Wave" got off to a quick start by scoring 8 Runs before the fans took their
seats in the 1st inning- thanks to the first 6 batters reaching via base on
balls. The big blast in the first inning came off the bat of Lane Gordon who
cleared the bases with a 3-run double. Lane later followed with a Triple to
start off the 3rd inning when Quizno's Owings Mills tacked on 2 more runs to
take a commanding 12-2 lead. Andrew Rosenstein and Russ Dlin were a combined 6-6
with 4 Runs scored in Game #1 to lead the team to victory.
In game one, starting pitcher Rich Schneider didn't have
it at all! He threw 30 pitches...28 were balls, and before a ball was put into
play, Jilly's trailed 8-0 after a half inning. They did get two back in the top
of the 2nd. But, Quizno's answered with two of their own in the bottom of the
inning to lead 10-2. Lane Gordon (1-0) made quick work of the frozen Under
Armour bats the rest of an abreiviated 5 inning affair...winning by slaughter
rule...15-3. Kevin Oliner pitched well after Schneider's tough start.
Game 2: Quizno's 12 (WP-Jeff Harris 1-0) Jilly's
2 (LP-Kevin Oliner 0-1)
Gary Lebowitz cracked a bases clearing Triple in the 2nd inning to spark
Quizno's Owings Mills to victory by the final score of 12-1. After going down in
order to start game 2, the "Blue Wave" got the bal rolling in the 2nd inning.
After Andrew Rosenstein and Jon Koman singled, Todd Pobleets followed with a
walk-- setting the stage for Lebowitz's Triple to put the Blue Wave up 3-1.
Quizno's Owings Mills added 4 more runs in the 4th inning thanks to a 2 -RBI 1B
by Andrew Rosenstein who continued his hot hitting by going 4-4 to start the
season. Lane Gordon shut down the Turtles by not allowing a run in the final 6
innings to notch his 2nd win of the day.
Notes for Quizno's Owings Mills:
* Quizno's Owings Mills had 6 straight players reach base by BB to start the
season- matching their walk total from their last 5 games of last season.
* Lane Gordon not only picked up both victories as a pitcher- but he also had
the first Double AND Triple for Quizno's Owings Mills to start the season.
* 4-5-6 Batters in Double Header- (Russ Dlin, Andrew Rosenstein, Jon Koman) were
a combined 16-20 with 9 Runs Scored
* Every player had at least one hit for the "Blue Wave".
In game two, Jilly's came back with Oliner, but the Quizno's bats remained red
hot with clutch two out rbi's, winning going away, 12-2. Robbie Ressin had two
hits and Detour Dave knocked in a run with a "bee stinging" single. The Jilly's
club is really feeling the affects of losing some marquis players in the off
season, including Hall of Fame pitcher, Bruce "Eisey" Eisenberg, gold glover
Donnie Weinapple and emerging star Ricky Farley among others. Under Armour will
look to get in the win column next week against the team (Sky/Sky) that knocked
them out of the playoffs last season.
