This game was much tighter than the final score would indicate. The Kings jumped to a 3-0 lead after 1 1/2 innings, but Jilly's took the lead with 4 runs in b-2nd. An RBI single by Harry Schevker and 2 RBI triple by Chris Knorr tied the score for Jilly's, with a sacrifice fly by Kevin Kelch scoring Knorr with the go-ahead 4th run. Jilly's furthered their lead to 7-3 with 3 runs in b-3rd. The inning was sparked by consecutive 2 out singles from Dave Sandler (RBI), Reggie Ellis, and Schevker (RBI). A 2 out single by Kenny Salzman knotted score 7-7 and pinch hitter Keegan Rettaliata hit a grounder that was booted by the Jilly's infield, allowing Marc Goldstein to score the go-ahead 8th run. Kings starter Chuck Grant got tough on the Jilly's batters and only allowed 2 hits thru the final 4 innings, while the Kings bats pounded out 12 more his in their final 3 innings. Game 2: Kings 21 (WP-Chuck Grant 2-1)  Jilly's 20 (LP-Dave Sandler 0-2)

The Kings and the Jilly's franchise have had numerous classic games in their 16 year rivalry, and this game will be added to the list. The teams combined for a Kings vs Jilly's record of 41 runs, with the Kings coming out on top in the end, 21-20, in a game that lasted until 1 P.M. This certainly was not a Steve Levy vs Bruce Eisenberg pitching match-up, as neither starting pitcher (Kings Frignito, Jilly's Schneider) made it past inning 5. Jilly's starting pitcher Rich Schneider lasted just 1/3 inning, allowing 2 hits, 6 walks, and was charged with 9 runs. For the Kings in b-1st, 2 RBI hits in the inning came from Dan Frignito, Ken Zalis, and Marc Goldstein. After the 1st inning, the Kings led 9-3. Jilly's pushed across 1 run in t-2nd on RBI single by relief pitcher Dave Sandler and 2 runs in t-3rd on RBI single by Chris Knorr and RBI fielder's choice by Roman Caples. Marc Goldstein's RBI single in b-3rd put Kings ahead 10-6 after 3 innings. In the 4th inning, Jilly's Reggie Ellis singled home Sandler to make the score 10-7 Kings, while Sandler shut down the Kings in b-4th.  In t-5th, Jilly's chased Kings starting pitcher Dan Frignito with 2 out and 2 on in the inning, with Chuck Grant coming in from the bullpen and the Kings ahead 10-8 with 2 Jilly's runners on base. Grant was greeted with 2 dink hits and 2 fielding errors, with Jilly's scoring a total of 6 runs in the inning and taking a 13-10 lead. The Kings put together a rally of their own in b-5th scoring 5 times to get a 15-13 lead, taking advantage of an uncharacteristic 3 errors by Jilly's along with a SF to the shortstop. To their credit, Jilly's again fought back and re-took the lead with 6 runs in t-6th. In the inning, Jilly's Dave Sandler's 1 out 2 RBI single tied score 15-15, while subsequent singles by Rob Ressin, Jim Silvestri (RBI), Kevin Kelch (RBI), and a SF by Warren Scudder (RBI) accounting for the go-ahead runs, 19-15. In b-6th, Shilo Merwitz hit a 1 out RBI single and the Kings trailed 19-16 with 2 out, 2 on, and Alan Varhaftik at the plate. On a 3-1 pitch from Sandler, Varhaftik hit a game-tying 3 run HR well over the fence in LCF, Varhaftik's 3rd HR of the young season. Jilly's assumed the lead in t-7th 20-19 on a triple by Chris Knorr and RBI double by Don Nikatsis. In Kings home 7th, Marc Goldstein led off with a triple to RF. Ken Salzman battled Sandler to a walk. Keegan Rettaliata hit a hard grounder to SS that was booted, allowing Goldstein to score the tie run. Shilo Merwitz followed Rettaliata with an RBI single to CF, scoring Salzman and giving the Kings an exciting 21-20 win.
