2005 PMS at Northwest Regional Park
Week 11:  June 12, 2005

Northwest Regional Park Field 4:
Game 1: Sky & Sky Inc 8 (WP-Larry Newman 6-7)  Kings 7 (LP-Chuck Grant 6-4)

Despite walking the bases loaded, Chuck Grant limited the first inning damage to an Eric Gertner two run single. Then his team picked him up with four runs in the b-1st including a Keegan Retalliata two run triple. The next few innings saw the teams trade some runs until the fourth when Sky&Sky had three triples in the inning. In the fifth, a Kings' throwing error allowed Trey Felton to score while Brian Sky doubled in the tying run. Larry Newman walked to lead off in the t-7th and Andy Bloom eventually hit the sac fly to drive in the winning run. Final score, 8-7, Newman over Grant. Scott Felton had two walks and a solo shot while Eric Gertner walked and went 2-2 with a triple.

Game 2:  Sky & Sky Inc 6 (WP-Larry Newman 7-7)  Kings 17 (LP-Chuck Grant 6-5)

In game 2, Sky&Sky struck for three runs with a flurry of hits in the b-1st highlighted by Scott Felton's two run double. Jumping ahead to the t-5th, Keegan  Retalliata tripled and came around to score the Kings' lone run. Sky&Sky answered with two in the fifth as Brian Sky singled home two. Some King's errors allowed an inconsequential run in the sixth as the game ended 6 to 1. Andy Bloom, Brian Sky, Todd Tennenbaum, and Paul each chipped in, going 2-3 at the plate.

Deer Park Middle School Field 1:
Game 1: Quizno's Owings Mills 4 (WP-Lane Gordon 3-0)   Havana Club Cannons 2 (LP-Mark Yokel 6-2)

Game one was a pitchers dual between Mark Yokel and Lane Gordon. Both pitchers keeping the opposing team off balance for most of the game. The Cannons came out flat and could only muster 2 runs off Gordon. Key hit for Quizno's was a 3 run HR by Russ Dlin in the bottom of the 4th. This turned out to be all Quizno's would need. Mark Yokel and Mike Ginsberg were the Only Cannons with more than one hit in the contest.

Russ Dlin cranked out a 3- Run H.R. to break up a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the 4th inning to help Quizno's Owings Mills defeat the defending champs by the score of 4-2.  Lane Gordon pitched a gem allowing only 1 hit to the powerful 3-4-5 batters in the Cannons lineup. Lee Eidelberg made his season debut for the Bluw Wave going 1-3 with a run scored. Great defensive plays were made by Larry Henderson (making a diving catch near the Quizno's bench) and Joel Koman (who saved the game with a terrific diving catch in left field).

Game 2: Havana Club Cannons 9 (WP-Tom Paulshock 3-1)  Quizno's Owings Mills 0 (LP-Jeff Harris 3-6)

Game Two was a different story for the Cannons. A two run first is all Tommy Paulshock would need as the Cannons cruised to a 10-0 win. Dan Kassel had 3 hits and scored 4 runs in the game. Chuck Easter also had 3 hits and scored 3 runs. Mike Steller drove in 5 runs for the Cannons. Paulshock dominated the game and the Cannons defense did it's part. In the top of the 7th. Tommy put the first two runner on. A line drive up the middle was picked off by Steller and that results in a 6-4-3 triple play to end the game!

Tommy Paulshock pitched his first career shutout versus Quizno's Owings Mills in a 9-0 drubbing of the former champs. The Blue Wave had their chances but left a season high 13 men on base in this game.  Quizno's OM had men on 1st and 2nd with 0 outs in 4 of the 7 innings- but could not puch a runner across the plate.  It was that kinda game for the Blue Wave as they hit into a game ending Triple Play!!  Garry Wienapple and Russ Dlin each added a pair of hits for the Blue Wave.

Notes on Quizno's Owings Mills:

* Holy Willie Mays Hayes: (2 Games) 24 of their 36 total outs were  by Flyouts. (62%)
* Lane Gordon pitching line in Game #1: 7 IP, 1 BB, 1 Earned Run
* Congrats to Todd Pobleets and Joel Koman each adding an addition to their households-- on the same day!! (both girls)  Way to plan that one out fellas.....

Deer Park Middle School Field 3:
Game 1: NEK Entertainment 11 (WP-David Pridgen 6-4)  Northwest Corridor 7 (LP-Dave Stein 3-4)

With both teams stuck at .500 and deadlocked in 4th place this was a huge opportunity to break open for the pack. Who would take advantage? NEK came out hot first punching 3 runs across in the 1st. A leadoff single from Rashaad and a few David Stein walks and NEK was determined to make this a quick match up. NWC fought back in the top of the 2nd scoring 4 runs of their own. Tony Esposito led the way with an rbi 2b. The 4-3 lead would stay until the bottom of the 4th when NEK exploded for 7runs with 2outs in the inning. Trying to rally a comeback NWC scored 2 runs in the 5th and 1 in the 7th but NEK held on for a 11-7 win.

Game 2: Northwest Corridor 7 (WP-Howard Goldberg 4-2) NEK Entertainment 6 (LP-Marqui Garrett 0-2)

A must win for NWC to stay at .500 and keep even with NEK in the standings. NWC came out a little more intense in the field and ready to win. They just couldn't wake up their sleeping bats. NEK was held to no hits and 2 walks in the first 2 innings but NWC were not able to capitalize leaving baserunners in scoring position in both innings. That would be the story for most of the afternoon. NWC got things going in the 3rd taking a 3-1 lead. Joey Liner tripled in 2 runs and slipped rounding third just missing a homerun by a step. Gabe Unterman drove him in with a single and NWC started to cruise. NEK made it a ballgame again in the 5th scoring 3 runs and jumping to a 5-3 lead. It wouldn't last long as the NWC scored 2 of their own in the 5th to tie things up. Davis Stein doubled in Liner and Jason Ott to even the score. Into the 7th inning in a tie ballgame and Reggie Ellis started things off for NEK with a leadoff single. He took advantage of the NWC outfielders sleeping and took 2nd base. It looked like NWC would get out of the inning with 2 quick outs but Ken Purnell singled Ellis in and NEK went into the bottom of the 7th trying to hold NWC for the win and sweep. Jason Ott led off with a triple and scored off of a Lee Pollak base hit. good baserunning and a Joey Liner single put Pollak the go ahead run onto 3rd base. With no outs Gabe Unterman sent a sac fly to center deep enough to score Pollak and give NWC the victory. NWC 7 NEK 6, Goldberg over Garrett.
