Andy Bloom added 2 singles to his 3-run HR, while Andrew VanLandingham one-upped Bloom's performance with a Grand Slam.

Game two was less of a contest which ended in 4.5 innings. Sky & Sky punctuated the scoring with a 10 run 3rd inning, and finished up with a final score of 16-3...Newman again earning the win over Kory Rosenberg.
Special thanks to Dan for filling in at third base quite admirably in game 2.

Northwest Regional Park Field 2:
Game 1: Havana Club Cannons 20 (WP-Mark Yokel 6-1)  Northwest Corridor 10 (LP-Howard Goldberg 3-6)

The Cannons came out this week showing a very odd defensive formation while missing 3 regulars. Of the 10 positions, only 3 were filled with a player in their regular spot, including the pitcher and catcher. Danny Kassel at SS was the only other regular in their familiar spot in the field.

Johnny Edelman came in to play 3rd base for the first time since tee ball, and Johnny was tested early and often coming through with flying colors. The story of this game though was the bats. Both teams made many errors in the field, but the bats had to support the ailing defensive units.

NWC came up with two in the 1st, and the Cannons followed with 5, highlighted by a Steve Hayes monster 3 run homerun to left field that cleared the fence 50 feet high in the air.

The see-saw affair continued through 3 innings at 10-7 in favor of the Cannons until Mark Yokel was able to shut NWC down in the t4th, and the Cannons put a crooked number up scoring 8 runs in the B4th, helped by 3 walks and an error by NWC. The key hit was a 2 out bases loaded double by Neal Charkatz over the LCF’s head scoring all 3 runs. After 4 it was 18-7, and NWC never threatened again with the final score 20-10.

Hitting stars for the Cannons in game 1:
Charkatz: 2-5, 3 runs scored, 3 rbis
Chuck Easter: 3-4,BB, 2 runs, 1 rbi
Hayes: 3-4, BB, 2 runs, 6 rbis
Drew Maclean, 3-3, 3 runs, 3 rbis
Yokel: 3-4, 1 run, 2rbis

Game 2: Havana Club Cannons 16 (WP-Tom Paulshock 5-0)  Northwest Corridor 10 (LP-Howard Goldberg 3-7)

Game two started with each team scoring 1 run in the 1st inning. In the t2nd the Cannons got 3 straight singles to start the inning by Yokel, Tommy Paulshock, and Kenny Enslin. Edelman hit a sac fly, and Charkatz hit a double to bring in two more runs. Easter walked, and Hayes followed with an RBI single to left to cap the 4 run inning for the Cannons.

No team scored again till the t4th when the Cannons plated 2 more on a Hayes rbi triple and an rbi ground out by Evan Kreitzer. After 4 the score was 7-1. Both teams went scoreless till the 7th inning, and both Tommy Paulshock and Howard Goldberg settled down.

In the t7th, the Cannons put up another crooked 8 run inning. The first 9 batters reached base via a hit or BB. Edelman had an rbi single, and Charkatz was able to drive the ball over the RCF’s head and leg out an inside the ball park Grandslam. Easter followed with a triple, Hayes a BB, and Krietzer hit a 2 rbi triple.

In the b7th NWC wouldn’t go down without a fight. Tommy walked his first and 2nd batters of the game, and NWC was able to string multiple line drives to the OF and plate 8 runs even while being robbed by a called third strike on Howard Goldberg where the umpire said Howard wasn’t able to check his swing in time, although it didn’t seem that was actually the case.

Hitting stars for the Cannons in game 2:
Edelman, 1-2, 2 runs, 2 rbis, 2 BB
Charkatz, 2-5, Grandslam, 6 rbis (a career high 9 rbis for the day)
Easter, 3-4, BB, 3 runs scored
Hayes, 3-3, BB, Sac Fly, 3 rbis (also a career high 9 rbis for the day) Hit for the cycle on the day as well.
Kreitzer, 2-4, BB, 3 rbis, 1 run

Northwest Regional Park Field 3:
Game 1: Kings 7 (WP- Forfeit)  Eastern Savings Bank 0 (LP-Forfeit)

Highlights pending. ESB only had 7 players by gametime and had to forfeit the doubleheader.

Game 2:  Kings 7 (WP- Forfeit)  Eastern Savings Bank 0 (LP-Forfeit)

ESB, desperate for players, was unable to get enough players to start game 2. A forfeit win was awarded to the Kings. The last time the Kings won via forfeit was 2000 against Money Mailer. The Kings have never forfeited a game in their 20th season of play.

Northwest Regional Park Field 4:
Game 1: NEK Entertainment 12 (WP- Dave Pridgen 2-5)  Stingers 11 (LP-Tim Palo 0-1)  8 Innings

Stingers came out to turn the corner on their unlucky season. With help from Jamal Gordon, Stingers were able to field a team to compete against NEK. Last year, Stingers won the season against NEK and looked to do so again with Tim Palo making his season debut for the Stingers on the mound. The Stingers faced David Pridgen with a lead-off single by Mike McGee followed by a walk issued to Jeb Buchman. With runners on, Mike Beverly drove in McGee with his RBI single to give the Stingers a 1 run lead in the b-1st. Palo took a little time acquainting himself with the mound upfront allowing NEK a complete batting order and taking the lead 5-1. It would be the Stingers in the second though as they put together a rally plating 7 and taking the lead. Palo got some extraordinary effort by the Stinger 3 man outfield to hold NEK to only 1 run in the b-3rd. In the t-4th Beverly caught on fire ripping a triple to the fence to plate Murphy for another run as the Stingers grew the lead to 9-7 Stingers. NEK would rally back to tie it up in the b-4th to make it 9-9 game. NEK took advantage of the Stingers 9 fielders and jumped out to a 11-9 lead after scoring one in the fifth and on in the six inning. Stingers would battle back as a team and got the bats going to tie it up at 11 after 7. This one would take an extra inning to decide. With a worn down Stingers and a man short, NEK took advantage of the Stingers and pulled out four consecutive singles to take the morning game.

Game 2: NEK Entertainment 14 (WP- Jeff Harris 3-1)  Stingers 11 (LP-Mike Beverly 0-1)

The second game before the rain brought Mike Beverly to the mound with a little help from Ben of ESB in the outfield. Mike Beverly had to take some time adjusting to the different position allowing 7 runs to score for NEK, but it was the b-3rd when the Stingers would help out Beverly. The top of the order took control of putting the Stingers back into the game as Buchman singled with Tim Palo to put runners on the bases. Sean Murphy dropped in a RBI double between the NEK outfielders to put the Stingers on the board. Mike Beverly helped his cause with his second triple of the day to plate Palo and Murphy. Stuart Sheridan kept things going with his laser past the NEK infield to bring the Stingers closer as did Ben with his double to plate one more fore the Stingers. After scoring another run on consecutive errors by NEK, NEK would find a way to stop the scoring of the Stingers who had cut the NEK lead to 1 run after 3 innings of play. NEK would work to stretch out their lead with another seven runs to make the Stingers work for a possibility of a win in this one. Stingers regrouped in the 6th to plate Tim Palo after his triple to the fence and Sean Murphy’s SAC. With the score 14- 7 in the b-7th, the Stingers gave it their best before the storm came to rally from behind 7 runs and two outs with consecutive singles from Jamal Gordon, Buchman, Palo and a double from Mike Beverly to come within 3 to tie, but it wasn’t enough to split the morning as NEK finally found a way to stop the short handed Stingers to take the day.
