Northwest Regional Park Field 1:    Umpire- Reggie Grant
Game 1: Raptors 7 (WP-Jeff Harris 5-2)  NEK Entertainment / ESB 5 (LP-Ted Winner 1-6)

NEK and ESB found themselves in similar positions walking into the 2009 softball season. Both teams had a solid core of players but were having trouble fielding full teams due to injuries and last minute cancelations. In order that the league should not be weakened with possible impending forfeits by the two clubs, they decided to merge. On Sunday the two teams meshed into one even though we still haven’t figured out a name for the team yet. Dave and Dave the two managers of the two clubs did a great job in making sure everyone felt comfortable and were in the right position to succeed. It was pretty exciting to see how the two teams bonded and it showed in their play. In game one NEK/ESB jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 3 innings behind the solid pitching of Teddy Winner and solid defense. However, the Raptors are not like any first year team that we have seen in this league. They have a solid pitcher Jeff Harris and their defense is as good as anyone’s in the league, mainly their infield. The Raptors stormed back to take a 5-3 lead and held on for a 7-5 victory. NEK/ESB had base runners in the last few innings but missed out on a few golden opportunities.

The Raptors took on NEK for the 3rd straight game on Mother's day, with some helpful additions from ESB. What resulted was another game that went down to the wire. Teddy Winner continued to baffle the Raptors through the first 4 innings, allowing only 2 walks and one hit, and no runs. NEK/ESB took advantage of some aggressive Raptor outfield play to plate 2 runs in the bottom of the first on 2 triples and a double. The Raptors continued to play good defens, but NEK/ESB then went ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the 4th inning on a leadoff triple and an RBI single. The Raptors were finally able to get to Teddy in the top of the 5th. A walk to Greg Wingate and a single from Ian Wright got the inning started. After a groundout, a pinch hit single from Justin Raynor scored Wingate. Following a walk from Eric Radom to load the bases with one out, Jon Mandras single home Wright to make the score 3-2, but a strong throw from NEK's Mikey in left field gunned Raynor at the plate for the second out. NEK's lead was only preserved for a moment, because on the very next pitch, Ryan Wilner blasted a 3 run Jimmy Jack to left to give the Raptors a 5-3 lead. Jeff Harris continued to pitch well in the bottom of the fifth to keep the score at 5-3. A walk from Jeff Brauer, a single from Greg Wingate, a sac fly from Wright, and a couple of errors by NEK/ESB led to two more runs for the Raptors in the top of the sixth to make it 7-3. 3 hits led to 2 runs by NEK/ESB in the bottom of the 6th to make it 7-5. After failing to score in the top of the seventh, a sliding grap by Jeff Brauer with the tying runs on base preserved a 7-5 win for the Raptors.

Raptors Hitting Highlights:
>Ian Wright - 1-2, sac, RBI, R
>Jon Mandras - 1-2, 2 BB, RBI, R
>Ryan Wilner - 1-4, HR, 3 RBI, R
>Greg Wingate - 1-2, BB, 2 R
>Justin Raynor - 2-2, 1 RBI

NEK/ESB Hitting Highlights:
Rashaad, Mikey and Jason were the hitting stars on the day for NEK/ESB. They were on base all day and each one had three hits.

Game 2:  NEK Entertainment / ESB (WP-Tzvi Friedman 3-4) Raptors 1 (LP-Jeff Harris 5-3)

Game 2 was the first game of the 4 game set between the Raptors and NEK that was decided by more than 2 runs. Jeff Harris pitched well again, but the Raptors had a few miscues on defense that led to NEK/ESB putting up 5 runs in the game. NEK/ESB lefty pitcher Tzvi Friedman was dealing, and only allowed the Raptors 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks. NEK/ESB gained the split with a 5-1 victory.

In game two – Tzvi Friedman took the mound and shut down the Raptors offense and NEK/ESB played great defense and took the game 5-1. Ben Guttman had a key RBI double and Friedman had a huge two run single. The team definitely is solid defensively all the way around and when the bats wake up the league will have a very competitive squad to play against each week.

Raptors Hitting Highlights:
>Chris Canosa - 1-3, 3B, R
>Brett Canosa - 0-1, sac, RBI
>Jeff Brauer - 1-2

Game 1: Cannons 15 (WP-Bernie Manzone 4-0) Northwest Corridor 7 (LP-Howard Goldberg 3-4)

The Cannons who took to the field Mother's Day without a majority of their regular roster received support from Herb, Brooks Sandler and Dave Michaelson. Game 1 started of well as the Cannons Plated 4 runs in the top of the first highlighted by a Shawn Warner 2 run triple. NWC got 3 back in the bottom of the first and tied it in the bottom of the 2nd. Cannon bats woke up and plated 9 runs in the 3rd and 4th innings to take command of the game. Highlight of the game were 3 Homeruns from Jason Schwartzberg on 3 consecutive plate appearances. Manzone got the win to improve to 4-0.

The 1st game of the doubleheader was the Jason Schwartzberg show. He took the Cannons’ offense and the game into his own hands with a remarkable 5-5 day. He put balls over the fence in 3 consecutive at bats in the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings. Havana jumped out to an early lead scoring 4 runs in the top of the 1st inn. NWC came right back in the bottom of the inning scoring 3 of their own. Joey Liner led the inning off with a single followed by an Adam Silverman walk and a Howard Goldberg 2run double to left centerfield. Gabe Unterman knocked Goldberg in with a line drive to LF and NWC were right back in the game. NWC was able to tie the game up in the bottom of the 2nd but the game would soon be out of reach. The Cannons scored 3 runs in the 3rd inn but exploded for 6 runs in the 4th. Schwartzman’s 3run dinger led the way followed by consecutive smashes from Warner, Hayes and Kreitzer. NWC expecting a high scoring game could only manage 2 more runs and 6 more hits the rest of the way. Every inning they left men on base and the Cannons fielders seemed to be in front of every line drive.

Game 2: Cannons 6 (WP-Tom Paulshock 3-1) Northwest Corridor 5 (LP-Matt Silverman 0-1)

The 2nd game of the doubleheader was much a much closer low scoring affair. Bernie gave way to Tommy on the mound for the Cannons and Goldberg stepped aside to give Matt Silverman his 1st career start. NWC’s offense was non existent in the 1st 4 innings as Tommy breezed by allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk. Silverman retired the Cannons in order in the bottom of the 1st but Havana Club was able to plate 2 runs in the 2nd. The Cannons added 2 more in the 3rd inning and it looked like they may cruise to an easy victory. NWC showed some life to start the 5th inning. Gabe Unterman and Jon Goldman connected on back to back line drive base hits. Jon Herbst drove in Unterman with a double to center and Aaron Birenbaum knocked Goldman in with a drive to right center. The cannons went quietly in the 5th and NWC rallied to take the lead in the top of the 6th. Lee Pollak started the inning off with a bases on balls. After 2 fielder’s choices and a Scott Sweren single to right field Adam Silverman delivered an rbi base hit to center to bring NWC within 1 run. Brad Rosenberg stepped up next and drilled a 2run double to give NWC the lead at 5-4. The Cannons left 2 men on and couldn’t score in the bottom of the 6th. NWC Couldn’t manage any insurance runs in the top half of the 7th. So bottom of the 7th NWC was ahead by 1 run and needed just 3 outs to close out the victory. Jonny Edelman reached on a fielder’s choice and came around to score 2 batters later on a Steve Hayes base hit to left field. Looking for some defensive help to force extra innings and escape a jam Silverman toed the rubber to face Evan Kreitzer. Kreitzer was 0-3 for the game and flied out to centerfield in his previous 2 at bats. He turned on an inside fastball and drove a shot over the head of Goldberg in right field to drive in Shawn Warner and win the game for the Cannons 6-5. A huge moral victory for The Cannons and a crushing defeat for NWC

Game 2 was a much closer game. After Schwartzberg injured his hamstring at the end of game 1 Manzone had to fill in for Jason in the 3 hole. After being down by a run and headed to the bottom of the 7th. The Cannons managed to plate 2 runs to take the victory 6-5. Paulshock got the victory to improve to 3-1.
