NWC and The Cannons played a lengthy hard fought battle in game #1. Other games being played were nearing the middle or end innings before we had a final score. Tom Paulshock and Matt Silverman took the mounds for each team and both offenses greeted the pitchers rather rudely. NWC’s 1-2-3- hitters all reached base and scored in the top of the 1st inning. Brad Rosenberg had a 2rbi double and matt Frosolone hit a sac fly. The Cannons answered back quickly with 4 of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Both teams committed several errors and both pitchers were very wild to start the game. The Cannons took advantage of Silverman’s wildness scored 5 more runs in the 2nd inning led by Warner’s base clearing double. Shawn Warner had 5rbi in the 1st 2inings. NWC never gives up however and despite the 9-3 deficit, they started to claw back. The NWC top of the order started another rally in the 3rd inning. Herbst scored off of another Rosenberg hit and Sweren came in off of a Gabe Unterman single. Matt Silverman then helped his own cause with a clutch 2 out 2rbi line drive to centerfield. Both teams added a run in the 4th and multiple runs in the 5th. NWC took their 1st lead of the game in the 5th inning. Frosolone’s sac fly knocked in Sweren. MSilverman then roped another 2rbi line drive to score Rosenberg and ASilverman and give NWC an 11-10 lead. Howard Goldberg then knocked in Silverman with an opposite field single to give NWC a 2run cushion. The lead wouldn’t last long as the Cannons put up 3 of their own in the bottom of the 5th. Dubansky and Henshaw both had rbi hits to give the cannons another 1 run lead. NWC stormed back in the 6th putting up 4 more runs off of Paulshock to take a 16-14 lead. Both teams were shut down in their next ab’s and the Cannons tried to end things in the bottom of the 7th. Hayes scored early to get The Cannons within 1 run but Sillverman got Henshaw to fly out to left field with 2 men on base to end the game. 16-15 in an extremely lengthy well fought battle.
Cannons took on NWC this past week. Game one saw Tom Paulshock matchup against Matt Silverman. Both had control issues throughout the game. After a back and forth contest that lasted into the wee hours of the morning, NWC got their first ever win against the Cannons. 16-15.

Game 2: Northwest Corridor 16 (WP-Howard Goldberg 4-5) Cannons 15 (LP-Lee Densky 1-2)
Both teams took a quick break and NWC returned to the field armed with Goldberg on the mound for his 1st start in months. Edleman started the game out with a base knock and Chuck Easter walked with the count full. Mike Dubansky knocked them both in to give the Cannons an early 2-0 lead. NWC still fired up from their game #1 victory came out swinging against cannon’s pitcher Lee Densky. Scott Sweren drew a walk and Brad Rosenberg followed with a single to left center. Adam Silverman’s base hit scored Sweren and Matt Frosolone’s sac fly scored Rosenberg. Goldberg (batting righty for the 1st time since april) drilled a triple to the fence in left center to score Silverman. Gabe Unterman singled in Goldberg and NWC had another lead that they would never relinquish. Both team’s offenses were quiet until the 4th inning. Jon Goldman led off with a double. He, Brad Marcus and Lee Pollak all would later score to give NWC a commanding 7-2 lead. They added one more insurance run in the 6th but The Cannons never figured out Goldberg and were stuck on their initial 2 runs for the rest of the game. NWC’s sweep of The Cannons was their 1st against them in franchise history and their 1st 2 game sweep of the 2010 season.
Game 2 saw Lee Densky toe the rubber against Howard Goldberg.
After losing the marathon first game, the Cannons came out flat and lost 8-2.
Game Notes:
► After NWC’s 1st franchise sweep of the Cannons they’ll set their sights on
sweeping LOFT next week to end the season without 4 regulars in their lineup.
►NWC’s 1-4 hitters all had multiple hits in game #2 and were a combined
15-23 with 9 walks, 17runs in both games. Great job by Herbst, Sweren, Rosenberg
and A Silverman

Game 1: AR Bodies 9 (WP-Jeff Harris 14-7) Stingers
2 (LP-Larry Newman 4-19)
The Stingers looking to position themselves for the play-off needed a sweep to move up (and help from NWC). We would get neither. The first game was marked by two poor innings in the field despite great pitching by Nemo. Offense was few and far between. There was a threat in both the third and fifth innings but solid defense by the Bodies would keep the Stingers scoreless. We'd go scoreless until the 7th inning where we finally capitalized on some chances when Beverly scored Eisenberg and Randall. That was all the Stingers would muster in game one going down 9-2.
Game 1 would match Jeff Harris agains Larry Newman. The
Bodies would jump ahead in the top of the first 3-0 on a 2 RBI single by Gabe
Silber scoring Eric Radom (BB) and Jon Mandras (1B). Harris would then plate
Ryan Wilner (1B) with an RBI groundout. The game would stay that way until the
5th, when the Bodies would break it open a bit. Mark Radom led the rally off
with a single. His courtesy runner was thrown out at the plate for the first out
after jon Mandras' single. But with 1st and 3rd and one out, Eric Radom singled
home Jon Singer, and Wilner crushed a triple to score Mandras and Radom. Wilner
scored on Silber's RBI groundout to make the score 7-0. In the 7th, the Bodies
added two more on Wilner's 3rd RBI (sac Fly), and Silber's 4th RBI on a single.
Meanwhile, Harris was dealing all game. He pitched out of a couple jams, and his
infield really helped him, especially Jon Manras, who was tested all day without
even a bobble. He blew the shutout in the 7th, but held on for the 9-2 win.
Game 1 AR Bodies hitting stars:
Gabe Silber - 3-4, 4 RBI
Ryan Wilner - 2-3, sac, 3B, 3 RBI, 2 R
Jon Mandras - 3-4, 3 R
Eric Radom - 2-3, BB, RBI, 3 R
Game 2: AR Bodies 4 (WP-Jeff Harris 15-7) Stingers 1 (LP-Larry Newman 4-20)
Game two was much of the same although the Stingers defense played much better. Nemo stayed hot allowing only one run through four. In the fifth Bodies would take advantage of the one poor fielding inning for the Stingers score three more. The Stingers would threaten a number of time in game two but would fail to capitalize on good chances. In the first inning the first two batters made it on followed by three outs. In the second the Stingers tried a two out rally getting the 8th and 9th hitters on but no one would score. Again in the fifth the stingers would muster some offense with a triple, a little help from the field with a dropped pop-up (scoring the lone run of game two) and another single. Then a series of FC ended the inning. That was how the day went for the Stingers. We're looking to next week to gain some momentum into the play-off where we will meet the Kings in round 1.

The Kings clinched the Regular Season title with an exciting 4-3 win over the
Bombers in game 1. Rob Barrow's 2 out 1B scored Jan Katzen with the winning run
in b-7th. The Regular Season title for the Kings is their 3rd in team history
(1993, 2008, 2010).
The last time these 2 teams met on May 9th was also on NWRP #4 and Marc Loeb
stole the offensive show with a 4 homerun performance. The game 1 match-up was
identical to 5/9 with Mike Herr going up against Tzvi Friedman. The Bombers
batted first and got onto the board in their first at-bat. Ben Gutman led off
with a 1B and 2 outs later, consecutive singles by Loeb, Sam Luxenberg (RBI),
and Dan Gutman (RBI) had the Bombers ahead 2-0. The Bombers again threatened
with 2 outs in t-2nd, loading the bases with 2 outs, but leaving them that way
when Herr was able to induce a flyout to end the threat. In Kings b-2nd, Alan
Varhaftik reached on an infield error and scored on 1 out singles by Jan Katzen
and Troy Hendricks (RBI).
In b-3rd, with 1 out, Kenny Salzman walked and Jeff Slutzker hit a single to put
runners on the corners. Salzman scored on a fielder's choice groundout by
Merwitz, tying the score 2-2. In t-4th, Dan Gutman and Chaim Finkelstein led off
the inning with singles. Following a fielder's choice groundout by Jason
Gardner, Pete Griffin hit a SF to LF to put the Bombers ahead 3-2. Damon Corbin
then singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd base with 2 outs. Rashaad Johnson
followed with a sharp 1B to RCF, sending Gardner towards the plate. Kings RCF
Troy Hendricks delivered a strike to C Rob Barrow, nailing Gardner at the plate
and keeping the game a 1 run affair.
The Kings loaded the bases with 0 outs in b-4th on singles by Alan Varhaftik,
Keegan Rettaliata, and a walk to Jan Katzen. Troy Hendricks came thru again,
this time on offense, with an RBI 1B to LCF. The Kings runners got confused on
the base paths, resulting in 2 players standing near 3rd base, and a subsequent
rundown cost the Kings an out. The mistake was intensified when the next Kings
hitter lined into an inning ending doubleplay. The Kings were only able to score
1 run, but the game was now tied 3-3.
Mike Herr and Tzvi Friedman were able to limit the offense on each team to just
1 single in each half of the 5th and 6th innings, so the game headed to the 7th
inning still tied. The Kings made a pitching change to start the 7th inning,
with Chuck Grant making his 1st relief appearance of the season. Grant set the
Bombers down in order in t-7th, striking out the first 2 hitters that he faced
and getting the final hitter on a popup to the mound.
In b-7th, Jan Katzen singled with 1 out. Following a flyout for the 2nd out,
Koby Sarubin lined a sharp 1B to CF, moving Katzen all the way to 3rd base. Rob
Barrow came thru in the clutch, hitting a bloop RBI 1B into LCF for the game
winning hit and the Regular Season title for the Kings.
This week pitted the first place Kings against a hot Bombers team. Both teams
displayed excellent pitching and defense and the outcome was a split of the
doubleheader.

Game 1 notes:
Game 1: Kings 4 (WP-Chuck Grant 10-1) NEK/ESB Bombers
3 (LP-Tzvi Friedman 6-3)
In game one, Tzvi Friedman took the mound against Mike Herr. In the first
inning, the Bombers took a 2-0 lead. Ben Gutman lead off with a single. After
two outs, Mark Loeb hit a single and Sam Luxenberg and Dan Gutman followed with
RBI singles. In the bottom of the second, the bombers had a chance to take a big
lead but with the bases loaded Herr got Flamm to fly out. In the bottom of the
third, the Kings cut the lead to 2-1 but the Bombers came back in the fourth to
score what would be their final run of the game. After singles by Dan and Chaim
Finkelstein, Petey Griffen hit a sac fly. The Bombers had a chance to add on
another run but Gardner was thrown out at the plate.
Meanwhile, Friedman was pitching an excellent game and kept the powerful Kings
lineup at bay. The Kings had very few hits on the day and most of them were
bloopers. It was very appropriate that the Kings won the game 4-3 in the bottom
of the seventh on an infield single and two plop singles. The Bombers turned in
several double plays but it was not enough and their seven game winning streak
ended.
Ben Gutman (3-3,1 R)
Marc Loeb (2-3,1 R, NO HOMERUNS)
Sam Luxenberg (2-3,1 RBI)
Dan Gutman (2-3,1 R,1 RBI)
Rashaad Johnson (2-3)
Jan Katzen (2-2,1 R,W)
Troy Hendricks (2-3,2 RBI)
►Both teams banged out 13 hits, all singles. There were
just 2 walks, both by Kings hitters. Each team committed 1 error.
Game 2:
NEK/ESB Bombers 7 (WP-Ted Winner 6-7) Kings 1 (LP-Chuck
Grant 10-2)
Bombers Ted Winner tossed a gem, allowing just 5 hits and 1 run in leading the
Bombers to a 7-1 game 2 win. Sam Luxenberg (3 RBI) and Chaim Finkelstein (2 RBI)
led the offense for the Bombers. The Kings lone run came on a Keegan Rettaliata
solo HR in t-2nd, the only extra basehit for the Kings all day.
The Bombers scored twice in b-1st on singles by David Flamm and Tzvi Friedman,
and a 2 out 2 RBI 2B by Luxenberg. The 2 runs would be all that the Bombers
needed. The Kings only run of the game came in t-2nd as Rettaliata crushed a
leadoff HR, his team leading 4th of the season. Kings starter Chuck Grant
yielded his only 2 walks of the game in b-3rd, but the latter walk to Friedman
came with 1 out and the bases loaded. The damage could have been much worse for
Grant with Loeb batting next, but Grant was able to induce Loeb into an inning
ending 6-4-3 doubleplay started by Kenny Salzman.
The Kings grounded into doubleplays also in t-3rd and t-4th, both of the 5-4-3
variety, starting with third baseman David Flamm. Ted Winner sailed thru the
middle innings, facing just 3 batters in innings 3-5. The Bombers put the game
away with 4 runs in b-6th, with key RBI singles coming from Loeb (1 RBI),
Luxenberg (1 RBI), and Chaim Finkelstein (2 RBI).

Kings game notes:
In game two, Ted Winner who has been fantastic in his past five games took the
mound against game one winner Chuck Grant. Again, it was a very close game until
the Bombers finally pulled away and took the nightcap 7-1. The Bombers struck
first in the bottom of the first. After Flamm singled Friedman walked and then
Luxenberg hit a scorching drive down the left field line for a two run double.
The Kings answered in the top of the second on a HR by Keegan. This essentially
was the only hard hit ball on the day against Winner.
The Bombers scored another run in the third for a 3-1 lead. Winner hit a single
followed by a Flamm single. Eventually, Damon Corbin who was pinch running for
Winner scored on a bases loaded walk by Grant. This was the first time in
Corbin’s career that he ever pinch ran for someone. The Bombers tacked on four
runs in the sixth. With one out, Flamm hit a single and on an error made it to
second. Friedman followed with a single and then Loeb and Luxenberg followed
with RBI singles. Chaim Finkelstein ended the inning with the bases loaded, two
run single up the middle to make the score 7-1. The rest belonged to Winner’s
pitching and the Bomber’s defense. Again, the Bombers turned in several double
plays against the Kings.
David Flamm (3-3,2 R)
Tzvi Friedman (2-2,2 R,1 RBI,W)

►star LF of the Bombers, Mikey Georgie and Marquiex Garrett
missed the game. Georgie broke his leg and is out for the season and Garrett
remains sidelined for the third week in a row with an injured hamstring.
►1B Keegan Rettaliata will be receiving a 4th injection
into his ailing knee and is listed as doubtful for next week against AR Bodies.
►1B Steve Levy will be dressing against AR Bodies getting his required games for
Playoffs qualification. Although he dressed as a 3rd base coach in last year's
Finals, the last time he qualified for the Playoffs roster as a player was 1998.
►5 current Kings players have shared in all 3 Kings Regular Season
Championships dating back 17 years(1993, 2008, 2010)-- Mike Herr, Dave Sandler,
Steve Levy, Alan Varhaftik, Jeff Slutzker.
►The Kings shattered their previous franchise record, dressing 25 players
during the 2010 season. The old record was 20 players dating way back to their
inaugural season in 1988. The fewest players to play in at least game was an
amazing 13 players in 1997 (and just 14 players in 1993 & 1998).
