Northwest Regional Park Field 1:    Umpire- Reggie Grant
Game 1: Cannons 11 (WP-Mark Yokel 3-2) Northwest Corridor 4 (LP-Zach Scherr 1-3)

The Cannons and NWC met for the 1st time this season. Yokel disposed of the NWC hitters easily in the top of the 1st inn and The Cannons managed 1 run off of Scherr in the bottom half of the inning after a Jason Schwartzman double knocked in Jeff Kurland. NWC got on the board in the 2nd to tie the score at 1. Matt Silverman punched an rbi single up the middle to plate Jon Goldman who had doubled two batters before. NWC scored one more in the 3rd when Brad Marcus tripled to deep left center and Zach Scherr helped his own cause singling him home. NWC added two in the 4th and going into the 5th inning it was a very close 6-4 ballgame. However Yokel shut down the NWC attack over the last 3 innings and The Cannons broke the game open in the bottom of the 5th inning. Jason Schwartzman launched a towering homer over the right field fence and The Cannons took game #1 from NWC with ease.

The Cannons matched up against Northwest Corridor on this chilly Sunday morning. Mark Yokel took to the hill against Zack Scherr. The Cannons got on the board first in the bottom of the 1st. Jeff Kurland led off with a single and scored on Jason Schwartzberg's double. NWC tied it in the top of the 2nd. The Cannons took the lead agin in the bottom half of the inning. Drew McLean led off with a double and scored on a Dan Kassel single. NWC once again tied it in the top of the 3rd. The Cannons opened the game up with 4 in the bottom half of the inning. Yokel led off with a walk. Kurland stepped up and drove a line drive to the wall in center for a 2 run HR. Mike Dubansky then tripled and scored on a Jason Schwartzberg single. After NWC turned a double play, Johnny Edelman doubled and scored on a single by Drew McLean. NWC got 2 back int he top of the 4th to make it a 6-4 ballgame. In the bottom of the 5th, The Cannons once again scored 4. Dubansky led off with a double. Schwartzberg then hit a mammoth 2 run HR over the right field wall. Steve Hayes singled and Edelman walked. After a flyout advanced the runners, Evan Kreitzer hit a SAC Fly to score Hayes. A single by Shawn Warner scored Edelman for the final run of the inning. Yokel did the rest by shutting down the NWC offense. Final Score Cannons 11 NWC 4. Mark Yokel got the win to improve to 3-2.

Game 1 Cannons hitting stars:
Jason Schwartzberg 4-4, run, 5 RBI's, 2 2B's, HR

Drew McLean 2-3, run, RBI, 2B

Game 2: Cannons 17 (WP-Tom Paulshock 5-1) Northwest Corridor 2 (LP- Zach Scherr 1-4)  5 Innings

Game #2 was never a close ballgame. NWC continually left men on base against Tommy and managed only 2 runs scored the entire game. The Cannons put together a bunch of hits in the 1st inning but somehow came away with only 2 runs. The game was broken open in the 5th inning. Still a meaningful softball game at 5-1 in the 5th inning The Cannons sent 15 batters to the plate and scored 12 runs to capture the victory in just 5 innings played. Warner and Schwartzman both had multiple hits in the inning and every Cannons batter but one reached base in the big inning.

In game two Tom Paulshock took the hill against Zack Scherr. The Cannons got on the board early with 2 in the first. Kurland led off with a double. After a dubansky ground out, Kurland scored on a Schwartzberg SAC Fly. Shawn Warner singled and scored on a Johnny Edelman single. The Cannons got 2 more in the 2nd and one in the 3rd to take a 5-0 lead after 3 innings. NWC got one back in the bottom of the 4th, but the Cannons blew the game open with 12 runs in the 5th. Jason Schwartzberg, Shawn Warner and Johnny Edelman all had multiple hits in the inning. Edelman knocked in five runs in the inning and Kurland knocked in 3 with a bases loaded double. Northwest Regional Park Field 2:    Umpire- Troy Long
Game 1: Raptors 16 (WP-Jeff Harris 7-2)  Stingers 1 (LP-Larry Newman 1-8)  4 Innings

AR Bodies took on the Stingers with the cold wind playing havoc on fielders all day. Bodies jumped out on top in game one off of Larry Newman in the top of the first when Daryl Smith knocked in Jon Singer (1B) with a single, Ryan Wilner knocked Smith in with a triple, and Larry Alexander knocked Wilner in with a single. Bodies would add 3 more in the top of the third when Eric Radom led off with a double followed by a Smith single. Alexander plated them both with a triple and then scored on Aaron Birenbaum's single. AR Bodies would really open it up in the top of the 4th, scoring 10 runs on 8 hits and 3 Stinger's errors.

Meanwhile Jeff Harris was dealing and held the Stingers to one run through 4. The game would end after 4 innings, 16-1.

Offensive Highlights for AR Bodies:
Larry Alexander: 3-3, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 R
Eric Radom: 2-4, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, 2 R
Ryan Wilner: 2-3, 3B, 3 RBI, 2 R
Jon Mandras: 2-4, 2B, RBI, 2 R
Mark Radom: 2-3, RBI, R
Daryl Smith: 2-4, RBI, 3 R

Game 2: Raptors 18 (WP-Jeff Harris 8-2)  Stingers 15 (LP-Larry Newman 1-9)

Game 2 was much closer, with both teams battling back and forth throughout the game. Larry Newman continued to pitch well, only walking 1 in both games, but his defense let him down not so much with errors, but with not catching fly balls and popups due to the wind. Harris struggled with his control a bit in game two and also did not get much help from his defense, attributing to the high scoring affair.

AR Bodies were down 5-0 going into the bottom of the second, when they were able to tie the score with 5 runs. Birenbaum scored Wilner (Leadoff 3B) with a single, and then scored on Harris' triple. Then 4 singles in a row by Gabe Silber, Ian Wright, Singer, and Jon Mandras completed the rally. Bodies would score 3 more in the 3rd when Jeff Harris hit a 2-run over the fence Homer (just kidding, but it was a shot splitting the outfielders rolling to the fence) scoring Wilner who tripled. Then Singer knocked in Silber (1B) with a single. Bodies would go up 10-5 in the bottom of the 4th when Birenbaum knocked in Smith (1B) and Wilner (1B) with a single. The Stingers would come firing back in the 5th though, scoring 7 to go up 12-10. The Bodies would keep hitting in the bottom of the inning though when Singer hit a 1 out double. Mandras scored him with a single and moved to Eric Radom's single. Smith scored Mandras with a single moving Radom to third, and Wilner hit a sac fly. With 2 outs, Birenbaum had another huge RBI for the Bodies to take a 14-12 lead. The Stinger's leadoff hitter had to leave so they started the 6th with one out and the next two guys made outs. Bodies added 4 more in the 7th including a 3 run homer by Singer. The Stingers would continue to fight in the bottom of the 7th, scoring 3, but would fall just short 18-15.

Offensive Highlights for AR Bodies:
Jon Singer: 4-5, 2B, HR, 5 RBI, 2 R
Jeff Harris: 2-4, 3B, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R

Daryl Smith: 3-5, RBI, 2 R
Aaron Birenbaum: 3-5, 4 RBI, R
Gabe Silber: 3-4, RBI, 3 R
Ian Wright: 2-3, BB, 2 R

Game 1: LOFT 13 (WP-Rick Winepol 3-4)   Sky & Sky Inc. 10 (LP-Ken Zalis 1-4)

LOFT came out on the chilly Mothers Day looking to rebound after 2 terrible previous weeks. They did not get off to the start they hoped as they went 1-2-3 in the top of the 1st inning. Sky and Sky responded with 2 runs in the bottom half. Loft however responded with 3 runs of their own off a RBI double from Bobby Yaffe and a RBI single from Jeff Kapper with the 3rd run being scored off a throwing error on Kappers single giving LOFT a 3-2 lead. Sky and Sky tied the ballgame in the bottom half, but in the top of the 3rd LOFT added 6 runs to take a 9-3 lead highlighted by a 3 run inside the park HR from Michael Bowen. With 2 outs in the top of the 4th and the score still 9-3 Brandon Mabry battled back from a 1-2 count to draw a walk and Vic Meyer took advantage as he belted a 2 run HR over the LCF fence to increase LOFTs lead to 11-3. Sky responded in the bottom of 4th with 1 and then 5 more in the bottom of the 5th to make the score 11-9 after 5 innings. LOFT was able to increase their lead in the top of the 6th off a Rick Winepol RBI triple and a Dan Mabry sacrifice fly. After scoring one in the bottom of the 6th to make the score 13-10, LOFT was unable to plate runners at 2nd and 3rd in the top of the 7th, so had to go into the final frame with only a 3 run lead. Rick Winepol however was able to shut down the Sky offense to give LOFT a victory in game 1 of the doubleheader.

Offensive Highlights for LOFT:
Vic Meyer: 2-4; 3B, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R
Matt Monto: 1-2; 1B, 2 BB, 2 R

Game 2: LOFT 7 (WP-Rick Winepol 4-4)   Sky & Sky Inc. 5 (LP-Alex Newman 2-5)

LOFT entered the 2nd half of the doubleheader looking to get back to .500 on the year and complete the sweep of Sky and Sky. After a scoreless top half of the 1st for Sky, LOFT started the bottom half with the first 2 batters getting out, but Vic Meyer drew a walk and Matt Monto launched a 2 run HR over the LCF fence to give LOFT a 2-0 lead. Sky responded and took a 4-2 lead after plating 4 runs in the top of the 2nd. LOFT tied the game with RBI singles from Andy Peksa and Rick Winepol to even the game at 4 after 2 innings. With the score still 4-4 going into the bottom of the 4th LOFT was able to hang up 3 more runs off a 2 RBI single from Andy Peksa and a RBI single from Howard Cohen to take a 7-4 lead. LOFT was unable to score anymore the rest of the game, but it ended up being enough as Rick Winepol pitched a great game and held Sky to only 1 more run which came in the 6th and LOFT was able to earn the sweep 7-5.

Offensive Stars for LOFT:
Matt Monto: 1-3: HR, 2 RBI, R
Michael Bowen: 2-3; 2 1B
Jeff Kapper: 2-2; 2 1B, BB, 2 R
Andy Peksa: 2-3; 2 1B, 3 RBI

LOFT Game Notes:
►Vic Meyer and Matt Monto became the first 2 players not named Pete Sclafani to hit a HR over the fence in LOFT history.
►Andy Peksa was called on to catch both games and called 2 of Winepols best outings of the season.
►LOFT has 2 doubleheader sweeps on the year, more then have ever had before and its only 5 weeks into the season. LOFT seems to be turning the corner as they currently stand in 4th place.

Northwest Regional Park Field 4:      Umpire- Lane Gordon
Game 1: Kings 7 (WP-Mike Herr 6-0)  NEK/ESB Bombers 6 (LP-Tzvi Friedman 3-1)

The Kings built a 7-1 lead and held on barely to win the opener 7-6. Both teams were missing starting players and the Kings brought out 3 first time players to help out their roster for the day.

In b-1st, Kings leadoff hitter Kenny Salzman reached on an infield error. Singles by Jeff Slutzker, Shilo Merwitz (RBI), and Alan Varhaftik (RBI) gave the Kings an early 2-0 lead. In t-2nd, Bombers catcher Marc Loeb hit a HR over the fence in left field. The score remained 2-1 thru 3 1/2 innings.

In b-4th, the Kings bats thawed out as the Kings pounded 6 hits and took advantage of another infield error. The key hit in the inning was a 3 RBI 2B by Chuck Grant. Brooks Sandler also had an RBI hit as the Kings lead became 6-1. Kings starter Mike Herr was able to keep the Bombers off the board thru the 6th inning. The Kings added an insurance run in b-6th on singles by Grant and Bard Heyman, along with a SF by Brooks Sandler.

The Kings felt safe with a 7-1 lead into the 7th inning, but the Bombers would not go down without a fight. Singles by Tzvi Friedman,  Marc Loeb, David Flamm (RBI), and Dan Gutman (RBI) made the score 7-3. With 2 outs, Ben Gutman hit a 3 run HR just out of the reach of Kings RCF Dean Katz. With the lead down to 7-6, Herr was able to retire Pete Griffin on a groundout to thirdbaseman Kenny Salzman.

The 1st place Kings and 4th place Bombers trotted out 2 unbeaten pitchers for game 1, unlikely ace Mike Herr for the Kings against Tzvi Friedman for the Bombers. The Bombers hoped to focus on pitching and defense to beat the Kings but the 1st play of the game proved to be a sign of things to come. On a routine grounder, the Bombers 3B threw a little wide at first. Peter Griffin caught the ball and tagged the runner and the runner Kenny Salzman missed 1st base. However, the umpire didn’t see things that way and before you knew it the Kings were up 2-0. Herr had a simple but affective game plan: he would get ahead in the count and then make you go fishing. He also relied on his outstanding defense and the Kings can be counted on to make all the plays in the field especially SS Shilo Merwitz.

Marc Loeb who had a record day this Sunday morning cut the lead in half with a towering home run over the LCF fence. In the bottom of the 4th the Kings bat’s came to life and were helped by two key errors to prolong the inning. By the end of the inning the Kings led 6-1. The lead stayed the same until the 7th. In that inning the Bombers fought back and pulled 2 within 1 run on a 3 run HR by CF Ben Gutman, but Herr was able to slam the door and leave the Kings undefeated. Friedman pitched an excellent game and deserved better. Credit Mike Herr with keeping the Bombers off balance all game. The Bombers were missing two key starters, Tony Wiggs and Raashad Johnson, but reserve outfielders Aaron Gillette (who starts for his F&M College baseball team) and Eli Katz filled in admirably.

Bombers multi-hit players in game 1:
Tzvi Friedman (2-3,1 R)
Marc Loeb (2-3,2 R,1 RBI,HR)
Dan Gutman (2-3,1 R,1 RBI)

Kings multi-hit players in game 1:
Jeff Slutzker (2-3,1 R)
Arin Gelletly (2-3,1 R,2B)
Alan Varhaftik (2-3,1 R,1 RBI,2B)
Chuck Grant (2-3,2 R,3 RBI,2B)

Game 2: Kings 17 (WP-Chuck Grant 6-0)  NEK/ESB Bombers 11 (LP-Ted Winner 0-5)

In game 2 Teddy Winner took the mound against Chuck Grant. These two have faced each other many times in the past. From the 1st inning you could tell it was going to be a slugfest with the Kings jumping out for 4 runs. The Bombers came right back and scored 5 to take a 5-4 lead.

The game went back and forth with the Kings holding on to the lead after scoring 5 more in the 2nd for a 9-5 lead. Every time the Bombers came back, the Kings would continue to pile it on. The Kings played great team ball with timely hitting and Chuck Grant’s pitching. The Bombers did not help themselves with 7 errors in the game. You can’t beat the Kings let alone anyone in the league with that many errors. This stat was particularly difficult for the Bombers who pride themselves on their defense.

The story of the day for the Bombers was catcher Marc Loeb. After hitting a HR in game 1 he blasted 3 off of Grant in game 2. His 4 homeruns in the doubleheader is a Pikesville record. In his last at bat, catcher Mike Herr went to the mound and basically told Grant don’t throw anything inside so Loeb took an outside pitch and hit it up the middle for another RBI. The Kings held on for the 17-11 victory and the Bombers will work on regrouping for next week's games against the Cannons.

Bombers Marc Loeb dominated game 2 with a league tying record of 3 homeruns. All of Loeb's homeruns easily cleared the fence in left field and leftcenter field. His 3 homeruns came with 6 RBI's and he had an additional RBI on a fielder's choice groundout. Unfortunately for Loeb and the Bombers, the Kings scored a season high 17 runs and took the nightcap 17-11.

Game 2 started out well for the Kings in t-1st as they scored 4 runs. Shilo Merwitz hit a 2 RBI 3B and Arin Gelletly had an RBI hit to key the rally. The lead was short-lived as the Bombers bats stayed hot from the final inning of game 1. MIke Georgie singled and Aaron Gillette hit a 2 RBI HR past Kings LF Alan Varhaftik. Dan Gutman singled and Loeb homered to tie the score 4-4. Still with nobody out, Marquiex Garrett and David Flamm singled. With 1 out, Jason Gardner hit a SF to put Bombers ahead 5-4.

The Bombers lead was also short-lived. In t-2nd, Dean Katz drew a 1 out walk and moved over to 2nd base on a groundout to first base. Kenny Salzman connected on a 2 out game tying single. Walks to Jeff Slutzker and Shilo Merwitz loaded the bases. Arin Gelletly emptied the bases on a 3B to RCF. Gelletly would score on an infield error and the Kings were now ahead 9-2. The youth of the Bombers produced a run in b-2nd as Eli Katz singled with 1 out and scored later in the inning on Aaron Gillette's SF.

Marc Loeb led off the b-3rd with his 2nd HR of the game (and 3rd of the day). The score after 3 innings was 9-7 Kings. Detour Dave Sandler, now acting as the Kings official scorekeeper, was kept quite busy on the sidelines as the Kings added 3 more runs off of Bombers starter Ted Winner in t-4th. Alan Varhaftik's 2 out 2 RBI 3B and Joey Longmire's RBI 1B produced the 3 runs. For the first time in the game, the Kings starter Chuck Grant was able to keep the Bombers off their turn at bat in b-4th. Meanwhile, in t-5th, the Kings loaded the bases on walks. With 2 outs, Shilo Merwitz singled home the 13th run of the game for the Kings, giving the Kings a 13-7 lead.

The Bombers continued to battle back. In b-5th, singles by Aaron and Dan Gutman set the stage for another at bat by Marc Loeb. Loeb did not disappoint as he hit his furthest HR of the day well over the LCF fence. The score was now 13-10 after 5 innings.

The Kings loaded the bases in t-6th and got 2 more runs on fielder's choice groundout by Brad Heyman and 2 out RBI 1B by Brooks Sandler. The Kings added 2 more runs in t-7th to hold a 17-10 lead.

The Bombers came to bat in b-7th with Marc Loeb scheduled as the 4th hitter in the inning, giving him a chance to become the first player in league history to hit 4 HR's in 1 game. Mike Georgie led off the inning with a 1B, so Loeb appeared ready to come to the plate 1 more time. Dan Gutman reached on an infield error in front of Loeb's turn to the plate, putting runners on the corner with 1 out. With the Kings ahead 17-10, the Kings had nothing to lose by pitching to the hot Loeb. Chuck Grant was able to get ahead of the count on Loeb (not that it mattered earlier in the day). Loeb hit a grounder to shortstop, forcing Gutman at 2nd base, scoring Mike Georgie (an RBI for Loeb), and ending one of the top offensive performances in league history. The Bombers were unable to add any more runs in the innings, losing to the Kings 17-11.
