Game 1: Northwest Corridor 11 (WP- Mark Yokel 5-3)
Hammerheads 1 (LP- Brad Glazer 1-9)
The first time these 2 teams played both games were back and forth battles that both ended with NWC getting the best of the Hammerheads both games. Our team has been inching closer and closer to our second win and we were hoping this week would bring one. The bats were quiet for the hammerheads in game one as Jeff Kapper, Chris McAndrew and brad Verbosky were the only players able to manage a hit and while the game did go 7, a ten run defeat 11-1 left us hungry for a second chance at that second victory.
The Hammerheads came out fired up against a flat NWC
squad. Armed with a few new hitters the Hammerheads seemed determined to get
themselves an upset victory. Mark Yokel however was in playoff form and
totally shut down the Hammerheads offense, allowing just one run after a
defensive miscue in the 4th inning. He finished with I run allowed, 2
strikeouts and one walk. The NWC offense left 9 runners on base but still
managed to plate 11 runs in the victory.
Hitting Highlights NWC:
Jeff Kurland 4-4 2r 2rbi
Gabe Unterman 2-3 2r Bb rbi
Scott Snyder 2-4 2r HR 3rbi
Howard Goldberg 2-4 2r HR rbi
Game 2: Hammerheads 17 (WP- RJ Seabeck 1-4) Northwest Corridor 16 (LP- Howard Goldberg 3-5)
The second game started much differently for The Hammerheads as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the 1st. NWC put up 4 of their own in the bottom of the inning and it was apparent that game #2 would be a much different ballgame. The Hammerheads came out determined and hungry for a victory, NWC looked flat & tired after game #1. The hammerheads put up 3 more in the 2nd inning and NWC added 3 more runs in the 3rd & 4th innings. The hammerheads broke open a close 8-7 ballgame in the 5th inning scoring 5 runs. They continued their shocking lead on NWC in the putting up 4 more runs to make it a 17-8 game. NWC went scoreless in the 6th but finally put together a rally in the 7th inning scoring 8runs to come within 1run of The Hammerheads. It was a well deserved and tough 17-16 victory for the expansion team Hammerheads.
In the second game, the hammerheads were able to get double as many hits in the first inning (6) then they did the entire first game going up by a score of 5-0, and tacking on 3 more in the second to make it a 8-4 ballgame. Two more big innings in the 5th and 6th game the Hammerheads a chance to end the game early as they were up 17-7 going into the 6th inning. NWC squeaked out one run however and were able to give themselves that final inning to dig out of an eight run hole. What seemed like a surefire victory almost turned into an awful defeat as a combination of hits, close plays and a few errors gave NWC not only hope, but well within reach after they got within one run. However, RJ Seabeck said enough of that and caught the final line drive himself to end the game.
Hitting Highlights NWC:
Gabe Unterman 3-5 3r rbi
Scott Snyder 3-5 3r 3rbi 2b
Howard Goldberg 4-5 3r 4rbi 2b 3b
Matt Bell 2-3 r 2BB

Brad Verbosky continued his assault on the softball going 3-4 and only a homerun
shy of the cycle.
RJ Seabeck pitched valiantly and was able to finish what he started.

many at bats.

Game 1: Sky & Sky Inc. 3 (WP-Jeff Harris 9-0)
Stingers 0 (LP -Larry Newman 6-9)
Sky and Stingers met for the second time this year. Stingers took the field and held Sky tot heir first three batters to go down 1-2-3 as Newman was on his game early. Stingers got runner on Harris in the 1st, but was unable to produce any runs. In the t-3rd. Sky sliced one into right and tuned it into an in the park homer. Stingers would try to battle back, but again unable to produce with runners on. Sky jumped ahead in the 5th for the lead and the game after 7 innings of play.
Game 2: Sky & Sky Inc. 16 (WP-Jeff Harris 10-0) Stingers 4 (LP -Larry Newman 6-10) 5 Innings
Stingers would try to reorganize their bats in the nightcap.
Sky had other thoughts and then took a 4-0 lead in the first. They would tag on
8 more until the Stingers got their bats going with Friedman driving a gaper
into right followed a bb by Palo . Nick Serkes would line a double to plate Palo
and Friedman. With two more runners on the bases and 2 outs Joe Chambers drove
the ball to the fence and almost had a 2 rbi triple, but a strong luck throw
from right center allowed for a tag out at third to end the inning. The Stingers
would be able to make it a 12-4 game, but sky took it away for 3 more runs in
the 4th for the day.
