Game 1: Bombers 2  (WP-Tzvi Friedman 2-2)  Kings 1 (LP-Mike Herr 6-2)

The Bombers and Kings played another classic battle in sweltering heat and the outcome was a split of their double header.

In Game 1, Tzvi Friedman and Mike Herr battled. Friedman shut down the vaunted Kings’ offence for a 2-1 victory. The only Kings run scored in the sixth was on an error by the Bombers’ RF. The Bombers jumped on the Kings in the second inning and took a 2-0 lead. Georgie started off the inning with a single and after a forceout,  Wiggs hit a single. Hochman hit an RBI double down the third base line and Chaim Finkelstein followed with a sac fly to plate  Hochman. The rest of the story was about Friedman’s dominance on the mound. He changed speeds brilliantly and kept the Kings off balance the entire game. The Bombers’ defense backed Friedman as they held on for a 2-1 victory.

Bombers Tzvi Friedman and Kings Mike Herr engaged in a pitching duel with the Bombers coming away with the victory 2-1. The teams combined for just 13 hits (11 singles, 2 doubles). Neither team had a multi-hit player. In Bombers t-2nd, singles by Steven Georgie and Tony Wiggs preceded an RBI 2B by Shulie Hochman and SF by Chaim Finkelstein. The Kings threatened in b-6th with 2 men on and 2 out. Alan Varhaftik's flyball to RF was misplayed, allowing Shilo Merwitz to score and putting Arin Gelletly on thirdbase and Varhaftik on second base with the potential tying and winning runs. Tzvi Friedman was able to retire Jan Katze3n on a flyout to RF to preserve the win for the Bombers.

The most pivotal play of the game happened in the top of the sixth. The Kings loaded the bases against Dave Pridgen who pitched very well in Tommy’s relief. On a routine grounder, the Bombers’ SS threw wildly to first and the Kings ended up scoring four unearned runs to take a 12-4 lead. The Bombers wouldn’t quit.
