0 (LP-Larry Newman 3-6) 4 Innings
Sky & Sky got off to a blazing start off former Sky pitcher Larry Newman, with the first 5 batters getting hits, followed by an infield error, a walk, and then 2 more hits. Sky sent 14 batters to the plate, and at the end of the first inning, Sky had a commanding 10-0 lead. After the Stingers stranded two runners in the first inning off starter Jeff Harris, the Sky offense continued where it left off and tacked on another 7 runs. Once again, the Stingers stranded 2 runners in the bottom of the inning, and the Sky offense was relentless, piling on 8 more runs in the 3rd to take a 25-0 lead. The Stingers only managed to get 2 more runners on base the rest of the game, while Sky added another 7 runs in the 4th. In just 4 innings, Sky & Sky had 35 hits and scored 32 runs. Jeff Harris threw a 5 hit shut-out.
Stingers came to
the first game, but forgot their top five batters and their water. So it ended
quick after four.

Game 2:
Sky
& Sky Inc. 15 (WP-Jeff Harris 5-0) Stingers 3 (LP-Larry Newman 3-7)
5 Innings
Larry Newman showed a lot of courage as he started the second game, despite the lopsided score in Game 1, and the two line drives off his legs. Game 2 started off in similar fashion, with the first 8 batters getting hits and Sky scored 9 in the first inning. Sky scored 3 more in the 2nd inning, and the Stingers finally got on the board with 3 runs in the 2nd inning. Those were the only runs they would score on the day off Harris. Sky scored 2 more in the 3rd inning, and Larry’s highlight of the day was getting Sky out 1-2-3 in the 4th inning. Sky took a 14-3 lead going into the 5th, and Steve Truitt knocked in the final run in the 5th inning to end the game by 12 run rule.
The night cap was not much different, as the outfield was
depleted and the reserves were called in again. Stuwart Sheridan had some well
played right field shots followed by solid base hits from Nick and Brett and
Nemo’s 2 rbi double in the second. Stingers would do no more and left the games
to Sky for the day.

Game 1: Northwest Corridor 10 (WP- Mark Yokel 2-2)
Bombers 9 (LP- Ted Winner 3-1)
8 Innings
After almost a 3 week layoff NWC players were fiending to get
back onto the field. Their opponents, old rivals The Bombers, formally ESB &
NEK. The last time these two teams met they played an instant classic in the 2nd
day of the playoffs with The Bombers coming out victorious 3-2. Former longtime
teammates Tommy Paulshock & Mark Yokel stood on the mound to square off for
their respective sides. The start was delayed waiting for an umpire to show up
but Detour Dave Sandler saved the day for both teams. Dropping his coaching &
scouting duties for The Kings, Dave did an excellent job calling the game for a
couple innings while we waited for our umpire to show up. The Bombers batted 1st
and put a run up on the board 1st with top of the inning base hits from Shuli,
Loeb & Flamm. NWC started strong and rocked Tommy for six 1st inning runs.
Patience at the plate and a slightly wild Paulshock resulted in 3 bases on
balls. Brad Rosenberg had a 2rbi double, Brad Marcus’ sac fly brought one home,
Gabe Unterman tripled in Rosenberg & Lee Pollak drilled a clutch 2out 2rbi
single up the middle. The Bombers put two more up on the board in the 3rd inning
after Stephen Georgie drilled a line drive into the right centerfield gap that
hit the fence for an inside the park homer. The Bombers held NWC in check in the
middle innings and came back to take the lead after putting up three runs in the
4th inning & another three in the 5th. NWC picked up 2 more runs of their own in
the 5th inning but still trailed by a run going into the 7th inning. Ted Winner
who had come in for Paulshock to close out the game allowed hits to Mark Yokel
and Jon Herbst and a bases on balls to Jeff Kurland. Making his NWC season
debut, Scott Snyder knocked in the tying run to take the game to extra innings.
Yokel retired Flamm, Tzvi & Tony 1-2-3 in the top of the 8th inning and NWC
entered the bottom half of the inning ready to reclaim the lead. Brad Marcus
lead off with a single followed by infield singles from Gabe Unterman and Matt
Bell. Jon Goldman then stepped up only needing a long sac fly and delivered the
walk off base hit to end the game 10-9 in extra innings.

Game two also featured
former teammates squaring off on the mound against each other as Ted Winner
looked to defeat Howard Goldberg. NWC still energized from their extra innings
comeback victory again scored early and often. Herbst started the game off with
a line drive up the middle followed by a Jeff Kurland walk. Goldberg stepped up
and smoked a long triple to left field plating both runners. Rosenberg then
drove in Goldberg and himself drilling an inside the park homer to the gap in
right center. The Bombers made it a game scoring 3 of their own in the bottom of
the 1st but managed just one more run off of Goldberg until the 6th inning.
Meanwhile NWC was relentless scoring two more in the 2nd and breaking the game
open in the 5th with another 6run inning. Now facing Tzvi Friedman who came in
to relieve Winner, Brad Marcus and Matt Bell both started off the inning with
singles. Jon Goldman drew a hard earned bases on balls and Lee Pollak’s sac fly
brought in Marcus. Herbst managed another walk followed by Jeff Kurland 2rbi
base knock. Snyder then drove home Herbst & Kurland with a 2rbi triple. Goldberg
then knocked home Snyder from 3rd base and NWC enjoyed a very comfortable 12-4
lead. The Bombers refused to go away scoring 2 runs in the 6th and 2 more in the
7th inning but NWC closed things out in the top half of the 7th scoring 3 more
runs highlighted by a Jeff Kurland 2rbi triple to the fence in right center.
