Game 1: Sky & Sky Inc. 11 (WP- Jeff Harris 3-0)
Bombers 1 (LP- Tom Paulshock 2-1)
Game 1 slated Jeff Harris vs Tommy P, Sky & Sky vs the lone undefeated team in the league the Bombers. Sky & Sky drew first blood scoring 4 times in the 2nd with a key 3 run triple off the bat of Shaun Poulton followed up with an RBI single from Eric Radom. The score remained 4-0 with heads up defensive plays on both team until the top of the 6th. The Bombers were able to get on the scoreboard with a leadoff triple by Tzvi and a sac fly by Toni. Sky & Sky increased the lead with 6 more runs in the 6th and one more in the 7th with a 2 run single from Andy Bloom and RBI singles from Brian Sky, Matt Holley and Shaun Poulton. Sky & Sky did not surrender another run and finished Game 1 with an 11-1 victory. Hats off to Jeff Harris! He only surrendered 5 hits and game up 1 earned run over 7 innings.
In game 1, Jeff Harris and Sky scored a resounding victory
over the previously unbeaten Bombers, 11-1. The usually reliable Bomber defense
recorded 6 errors, and Sky had many timely hits against the Bombers’ starter,
Tommy. Bombers scored their lone run in the 5th on a Tzvi Friedman triple and a
Tony Wiggs sac-fly. Sky played great defense all day and totally outplayed the
Bombers.
Sky game 1 offensive leaders:
Shaun Poulton 2-3, 3b, 4 RBI’s
Andy Bloom 2-3, 2 rbi’s
Game 2: Bombers 3 (WP- Ted Winner 3-0) Sky & Sky Inc. 2 (LP- Ken Zalis 1-2)
Kudos to Bombers pitcher Teddy Winner, who pitched a brilliant game 2 for the Bombers, to salvage a double-header split. Winner pitched an amazing game, and even though Sky and Sky had runners on base, most of game 2, Winner came up with some huge pitches to shut down their powerful offense.
Game 2 was a nail biter. Ted Winner was the big story. He pitched a great game, and helped the Bombers move to 5-1. The Bombers struck quickly in the 1st off of Kenny Zalis. After a Mikey Georgie single, Friedman walked, and Marc Loeb hit an RBI double. Tony Wiggs then drove a ball to the right CF fence for a 2 run triple. The Bombers had bases loaded in the 2nd with no outs, but didn’t score. In the top of the 3rd, Sky cut the deficit to 3-2, but little did both teams know, that would be the rest of the scoring for the afternoon. The Bombers played great defense behind Winner, and are going to the Memorial weekend break in 2nd place.
Game 2 would be a much
tighter ball game. The Bombers opened the scoring in the 1st with a single from
Loeb and a 2 run triple from Toni. Sky & Sky was unable to get a hit until
opening up the 3rd with two singles from Bloom and Holley. Eric Radom came up
with a two out 2 rbi single to close the score to 3-2. From that point, Teddy
was able to keep the Sky & Sky bats in check and the score remained 3-2 with Sky
up for its last at bat in the 7th. Sky & Sky was able to load the bases with
only 1 out and needing only a fly ball to possibly tie the game. Teddy buckled
down and got Holley to hit a ground ball to third getting the force out at home.
With two outs and bases loaded the game ended on fly ball to right center. Hats
off to Teddy for limiting Sky & Sky to only 5 hits and two runs over 7 innings.
Sky offensive leaders:

Game 1: Cobras 6 (WP-Rick Winepol 3-2)
Stingers 5 (LP -Larry Newman 2-5)
This week the Stingers met the new guys on the block. With a new middle infield the Stingers allowed the Cobras to take a two spot in the first, but then it was a pitcher’s duel between Winepol and Newman as both had good control on their pitches. In the top of the 6th things got interesting when Lee Liberman got into the mix with a single followed by Dave Binkowski and Tim Palo loading the bases. Joe Binkowski drove in two runs on his screeching double. Tome Bahn had thoughts of putting the Stingers up, but as Binkowski came in to score he was called out by the late umpire into the game. Cobras would in turn work singles and SACs to go up by two again in the bottom of the 6th making it a 4-2 game after 6 innings of play. In the top of the 7th, Stingers would evolve again as Randall and Beverly jumped on the based and then were driven home by a towering double from Joe Chambers and Nick Serkes’ screaming single. It was not until the pitchers faced each other when the first walk of the game was issued by Winepol. The Stingers would try to load up more runners, but would only be able to take the lead by one. Cobras went down quick in the bottom of the 7th with their first two at bats popping out. However they would load the bases with two outs here. The bottom of their line-up helped them along with the umpiring as it should have been a force out at third, but the umpire made an auspicious call that would allow the Cobras to take the game by one.
Game 2: Stingers 4 (WP-Larry Newman 3-5) Cobras 0 (LP -Rick Winepol 3-3)
The night cap was another pitcher’s duel between Winepol and Newman. However it would be Joe Chambers again making things happen for the Stingers with his leadoff double followed by Nick Serkes long SAC to out the Stingers up by one. The chemistry of the new middle infield turned multiple double plays as well as a few 5-6-3s to end a few innings. Newman had everything working for him along with snow cone defense from his outfield to put the Cobras away in the bottom of the 6th as they would tack on 3 more runs from the middle of their line up to split the day with Newman’s first shutout of the season 4-0.
