Highlights submitted thus far by  Natty O's (Hammerheads), NWC, Bombers, Stingers, Thunderbirds, Sky, Kings

Northwest Regional Park Field 1:    Umpire- Reggie Grant
Game 1: Sky & Sky Inc. 16 (WP-Jeff Harris 2-1) Stingers 4 (LP- Larry Newman 1-1)  6 Innings

Stingers opened their second week of play against Sky and had hopes of repeating last week’s play. Tim Palo came back for the season to start things off against Harris in a positive way for the Stingers with a solid double. It would be Sean Flynn coming through with a rbi off Harris to put the Stingers up by one. Thereafter the Stinger fell into a pop up slump. They would try their best to claw back into the game, over ten runs. In the fifth, the Stingers and Nemo began to spark as Flynn would again (who went 3-3, 1rbi) drive around the Stingers on the base paths to setup runs. However it would be too little too late letting Sky get away with a 16-4 game 1.

Sky & Sky got on the board early with 4 runs in the 1st inning. Eric Radom set the tone with a lead off walk, and then singles by Steve Truitt and Elliot Blank were followed by a double by Pat Wilcox. Jeff Sacks knocked him in with a triple to left. The Stingers got one back to make it 4-1 after the 1st inning. Sky continued to put runs on the board in the second. Mike Pavsner reached on an error and with two outs, Truitt, Blank and Wilcox singled, followed by a 3-run home run by Brian Sky. Jeff Harris pitched well and did not allow another run until the 5th inning. Sky scored 3 runs in the 3rd. Shaun Poulton led off with a single, followed by a base hit by Pavsner. Radom knocked in a run, Truitt singled in another, Blank hit a Sac Fly and Wilcox knocked in one more, making it 12-1 after 3 innings. Sky tacked on one more run in the 4th when Sacks singled home Andy Bloom. Sky ended the game by mercy rule after scoring 3 more in the 5th, making the final score 16-4.

Offensive leaders for Sky:
Pat Wilcox: 4-4, 2B, 3RBI, 3R
Elliot Blank: 3-3, Sac Fly, 3RBI, 3R

Mike Pavsner: 2-3

Game 2:  Sky & Sky Inc. 13 (WP-Jeff Harris 3-1) Stingers 2 (LP- Tom Paulshock 0-2)

The Stingers and Sky would have a completely different game in the night as both Paulshock and Harris took to a pitchers dual shutting down each other’s batters through 2 1/2 innings of. Then Sky would take advantage of Stingers and metal lapses jumping out with 8 runs in the 3rd. Brett Eisenberg would get thing rolling again for the Stingers in the 4th inning when Flynn again drove in his second rbi of the day to put the Stingers on board. In the 4th and fifth, the Stingers composed themselves well again and did their best to get back into the game with replication from Palo, Eisenberg and Flynn. However Sky would take the day from the Stingers in a 13-2 contest.

In game 2, neither team scored in the first. Jeff Harris pitched a 1-2-3 inning, while Sky & Sky left the bases loaded. Sky & Sky again failed to score, stranding 2 runners in the bottom of the 2nd inning while Jeff Harris had another 1-2-3 inning with some help with the defense. The Stingers failed to score in the 3rd, and finally the Sky offense exploded with 8 runs in the inning, with 13 batters coming to the plate. Truitt got the big inning started with a base hit, and the next 6 consecutive batters reached base by hit or walk. The Stingers finally got a run in the 4th inning and Sky failed to score, making it 8-1 after 4 innings. The Stingers didn’t score in the top of the 5th and in the bottom of the inning Sky & Sky got 4 more, highlighted by doubles from Radom and Wilcox. At the end of 5, the score was 12-1. Both teams scored one run in the 6th to complete the scoring for the game with Sky winning it 13-2.

Game 1: Northwest Corridor 10 (WP-Howard Goldberg 2-1) Deuces Up 7 (LP- Rick Winepol 1-2)

Week #2 matchup saw 1-1 NWC going against 1-1 Deuces Up. The Deuces were in control of the game early on plating 2 runs in the top of the 1st and top of the 3rd. Josh Vaeth drove the 1st 2runs and Todd & Joe knocked in the next 2. Rick Winepol managed to keep NWC at bay for the 1st two innings but Scott Sweren drilled an inside the park 3run homer in the bottom of the 3rd to get the game closer, 4-3. Vaeth and Brad Verbosky both drove in runs in the 5th inning and Deuces Up enjoyed a nice 6-3 lead. In the bottom of the 5th NWC got the game a bit closer again after a sac fly rom Jon Herbst and an rbi single from Sweren. NWC broke the game open in the bottom of the 6th scoring 5 times. Gabe Unterman delivered a clutch bases loaded 2run base hit to get the rally going. Ben Herbst came up right after Unterman and smashed a 3run inside the park homer to give NWC a 10-6 lead. Deuces Up managed one more run in the top of the 7th but Goldberg managed to shut the door on the DU offense with a controversial game ending double play.

Game 2:  Northwest Corridor 15 (WP-Howard Goldberg 3-1) Deuces Up 3 (LP- Rick Winepol 1-3)  6 Innings

Game #2 had a slightly different vibe with NWC a little more focused and Deuces Up a bit off of their game. NWC still riding the momentum from their game one comeback, broke through with 6 early top of the 1st inning runs. Jon Herbst started off the inning with a double and the middle of the order staples of Goldberg, Snyder and Adam Silverman delivered 3 rbi hits in a row. Gabe Unterman capped off the inning with a 3run homer to right centerfield to give NWC an early 6-0 lead. Chris Ammann and Scott Sweren both doubled in the 2nd inning to tag on one more run. Meanwhile Goldberg kept the Deuces off of the scoreboard until the 3rd inning. Ricky Winepol had an rbi single and Verbosky drove in the 2nd run with a sac fly. That would be almost all of the scoring for DU as they would manage 1 more run in the bottom of the 5th. NWC put the game out of reach and closed the game out early in 6 innings after scoring 4 more in the 5th and 4 in the top of the 6th. Snyder, Silverman, Brad Rosenberg and Matt Silverman had consecutive rbi hits in the top of the 5th. Northwest Regional Park Field 3:      Umpire- Kory Rosenberg
Game 1: Hammerheads 14 (WP- RJ Seabeck 2-1)  Thunderbirds 0 (LP- Kyle Kennedy  0-1)  5 Innings

The Natty O's know what it's like to be an expansion team. So when The Thunderbirds came up on the schedule for week two, Natty O's thought it would be a good barometer to see if they have made it to the next level. It didn't take long, as 6 first inning runs was more than enough for pitcher RJ Seabeck, who's 6 K's in 6 shutout innings gave the Natty O's their first ever 6 inning win. RJ also added a homerun and double, giving him 8 consecutive hits to start the young season. Jeff Kapper and Sean Pustilnik had 2 hits a piece, while Jonathan Veditz smashed his first homerun and finished the game with 4 RBI. Dave Robb also came through in an emergency situation to catch and did good job doing so.

Thunderbirds offensive leaders:
Dave Woods 1-1, 3B, BB
Lamont Brown 1-2
Maurice Jamison 1-2

Game 2: Hammerheads 14 (WP- RJ Seabeck 3-1)  Thunderbirds 2 (LP- Jerome Ragsdale 0-1)  6 Innings

Game two took a different turn in the early going as the Thunderbirds put up 2 first innings runs to grab a lead. The Natty's O's bats were almost silent for 2 innings but then woke up in the third and fourth innings and took a 7-2 lead. RJ wouldn't allow another run in the game and settled down, while the offense kept chipping and was able to put 14 runs up for our second consecutive 6 inning victory. Jeff Kapper and Jon Veditz continued getting on base, 3 times each while newcomer Chris Keelan added a couple of hits and a sac fly to put the game away. The Thunderbirds came to play and while it may take them (as it did for the Hammerheads) a little while to get acclimated to a fast pitch league, there is a lot of potential on this team and are a welcome addition, we hope you stick around for a long time.

Thunderbirds offensive leaders:
Dave Woods drove in the first PMSL run for the Thunderbirds with a single.
Manny 1-2, R, BB
Greg Hooker 2-3
Tony Barner 2-3, R
Dave Woods 1-3, RBI

Northwest Regional Park  Field 4:      Umpire-Lane Gordon
Game 1: Bombers 7  (WP-Tzvi Friedman 1-0)  Kings 3  (LP -Mike Herr 0-2)

On a beautiful sunny morning, the Bombers opened their season against the Kings. It’s a fun respectful rivalry . The Bombers were weary because 4 regulars were missing, Marc Loeb, the Guttman twins, and Chaim Finkelstein. However, behind solid defense, timely hitting and the arm of ace Tzvi Friedman, the Bombers prevailed 7-3. Newcomers Brad Eyler, Yossi Lurman, and Jay Walle played a major role in the victory. Friedman pitched brilliantly. His fastball was hopping and his location was pin point.

In the top of the first, Shulie Hochman and Friedman reached on errors. David Flamm hit an RBI double for a 1-0 lead. Tony Wiggs drove home the second run of the inning with an RBI groundout. The Kings came back in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 2-1 on an RBI single by Jan Katzen after an infield single and a blooper put 2 men on base. In the bottom of the third the Bombers widened their lead to 5-1. Yossi Lurman led off with a single in his league debut. Raashad Johnson followed with a triple over the RF’s head. Hochman had an RBI double and with 2 outs, Flamm had his second straight RBI double to make it 5-1.

In the 3rd Shilo Merwitz had an RBI single to score Mike Herr who walked. In the top of the 4th, the Bombers came right back to score another run to take a 6-2 lead. Lurman scored Eyler with another base hit . The Kings kept pecking away at the lead but couldn’t come up with the big inning they needed. Friedman would hold the Kings scoreless the rest of the way. The Bombers tacked on one more run in the 7th. After Rashaad Johnson singled, Hochman doubled him to third and Mikie Georgie brought home Johnson with a sac fly. The final score was 7-3 and the Bombers moved to 1-0 on the season.

Game 2: Kings 12  (WP-Shilo Merwitz 1-0)  Bombers 3  (LP -Jay Walle 0-1 )

The Kings sent seldom used pitcher Shilo Merwitz to the mound against PMSL rookie Jay Walle for the Bombers. For Merwitz, it was his first start since June 21, 2009 vs. Bombers. The Kings spotted Merwitz to a 3-0 lead after t-1st and never looked back, winning the nightcap 12-3. Walle was forced to leave the game for the Bombers in t-2nd when he appeared to suffer a hamstring injury fielding a grounder behind the mound.

Alan Varhaftik (RBI 1B) and Jan Katzen (2 RBI 2B) produced the runs in Kings t-1st. The Kings loaded bases in b-2nd on leadoff singles by Tyler Witt, Glenn Savage, and Brooks Sandler. With 1 out, Merwitz hit a SF and Arin Gelletly followed with a 2 RBI 1B, giving the Kings a 6-0 lead. Kings scored again in t-3rd on 1B by Jan Katzen and RBI 2B by Rob Barrow.

In b-3rd, with 1 out Rashaad Johnson singled and Schulie Hochman drew a walk. Following an infield popout for the 2nd out, Tzvi Friedman reached on a dropped flyball, allowing both Johnson and Hochman to score. David Flamm followed with an RBI 1B to make it a 7-3 game. That would be all the scoring for the Bombers.

The Kings scored 5 more runs in t-5th as Bombers reliever David Pridgen struggled with his control, issuing 4 walks in the inning, 3 of those walks coming with the bases loaded. Sacrifice flies by Justin Cohen and Tyler Witt accounted for the other RBI's in the inning.

David Flamm (2-3,1 RBI)
