Northwest Regional Park Field 1:    Umpire- Reggie Grant
Game 1: Northwest Corridor 16 (WP-Howard Goldberg 16-2) Stingers 5 (LP- Larry Newman 4-8)

Stingers opened the day with half of their squad having prior engagements. With the assistance of Doug, George, and Joel. However, the Stingers could not get their bats going again and seemed to behind NWC without much outlook. George did test the waters though of the NWC outfield along with Sheridan and Flynn, but it was not enough to make it much of a morning game.

The hottest Softball Sunday of the year thus far showcased two veteran squads doing battle on field #1. The Stingers threw crafty veteran Larry Newman on the mound to try and outduel NWC’s Howard Goldberg. The Stinger’s offense failed to produce a run in the first 4 innings. Meanwhile NWC slowly built themselves a nice cushion in the early innings. Jon Herbst & Howard Goldberg led off the game with back to back line drive hits and were quickly driven home by Scott Snyder and Brian Jarosinksi. In the bottom of the 2nd Gabe Unterman drilled an inside the park 2run homer to right centerfield. Herbst’s double knocked home Joe Brand and Goldberg delivered an rbi single to plate Brand. Again in the 4th inning Herbst knocked in Chris Ammann with a triple and Goldberg’s sac fly scored Herbst to give NWC an 8run lead going into the 5th inning. The Stingers finally got on board in the 5th, Mike Beverly had an rbi double and Brett Eisenberg delivered a clutch hit with men on base to give The Stingers 3runs. NWC erased those runs in the bottom half of the inning scoring 4 more. Brad Rosenberg led off the inning with a double, followed by consecutive base knocks from Trevor Walzl and Matt Silverman. Matt Bell & Joe Brand had back to back hits and Herbst added another rbi with a sac fly. The Stingers put up 2 more in the 6th inning but it was again erased by the NWC offense. The NWC defense was solid all day long and Trevor Walzl was particularly busy at 3rd base earning 7 putouts. The win kept NWC in first place and one game ahead of The Kings.

Game 2:  Northwest Corridor 11 (WP-Ted Winner 3-1) Stingers 2 (LP- Tom Paulshock 3-7)

After the heat of the morning, Tom Paulshock took to the mound and had a relapse of last week. Shutting down NWC for two innings and even pitching the Stingers to a lead through the first few innings. However, NWC would take advantage of sloppy play and quiet bats again as the Stingers tried to get through the heat of the day.

Both teams tried to recoup after a long hot game #1. NWC threw Teddy Winner on the mound to face The Stinger’s Tommy Poulshock. The Stingers scored once in the 2nd inning off of a Mike Beverly double and once in the 3rd after George’s triple. NWC was shutdown in the 1st inning, scored 1 from a Jon Goldman sac fly and was again shutdown in the 3rd inning. NWC’s offense broke things open in the 4th inning scoring 6 runs. Trevor Walzl started off the inning with a line drive double. Jarosinski drilled a base knock and Matt Silverman right behind them reached on an error. Unterman, Goldman and Ammann all enjoyed rbis at the end of the lineup and Joe Brand stepped in as a pinch hitter for Ted Winner and smashed a 3run homer to put the game out of reach for good. In the 5th inning NWC added to their cushion with 2runs and 2more in the 6th. Brian Jarosinski drilled a triple to the fence and Scott Snyder drove in 2runs to add to the highlights. Goldberg came into the ballgame to finish things up in the 6th and 7th. NWC’s defense came up big all day making solid plays and taking away hits. Walzl stayed busy at 3rd base enjoying another 6 putouts and the NWC infield converted 15 out of 21 outs. Matt Silverman threw out George at home plate for his 1st outfield assist of the year.

Game 1: Bombers 18 (WP- Tzvi Friedman 8-2)  Natty O's 0 (LP- RJ Seabeck 6-15)  4 Innings

On a hot humid day, Bombers pitcher Tzvi Friedman kept the heat on the Natty O’s all day and tossed 2 shutouts. Game 1 ended after 4 innings and the Bombers hammered the O’s 18-0 on a 1 hitter by Friedman. The O’s put up a better fight in game 2 but the Bombers prevailed 5-0. The Bombers infield of Flamm, Dan Gutman, Eyler, Finkelstein, Loeb and Gardner as well as the OF of Georgie, Ben Gutman, Wiggs and Johnson played solid if not spectacular defense all day. It was the first time in several weeks that the Bombers played well in both games of the doubleheader.

In game 1, the Bombers jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the 1st. . Georgie had a one out single and Ben reached on an error. Flamm hit an RBI single for a 1-0 lead. Loeb doubled home Ben and Gardner hit a 2run single for a 4-0 lead. Friedman singled and Dan followed with an RBI single down the 3rb base line. Wiggs walked and Eyler’s groundout made it 6-0. F Finkelstein hit an RBI single and Johnson’s double to RF made it 8-0. Georgie had his second hit of the inning, a 2run single to complete the 10 run inning.

Game 2:  Bombers 5 (WP- Tzvi Friedman 9-2)  Natty O's 0 (LP- RJ Seabeck 6-16)

In the second, Flamm singled and Gardner tripled to the RF fence for an RBI triple .Friedman’s sac fly made it 12-0. Dan scorched a double to the gap and came home on Wigg’s RBI single to LCF. Friedman kept rolling and so did the Bombers offense. The Bombers scored 2 more in the 3rd on RBI’s by Gardner and Friedman. The team scored 2 more in the 4th to complete the scoring. Friedman hit a triple and came home on Dan’s single. Gutman would eventually score on Finkelstein’s RBI single.

Game 2 was more of the same for the Bombers- great pitching by Friedman who seemed to get stronger as the game went along. The Bombers defense was fantastic and kept the O’s at bay even though they played much better than they did in game 1. Flamm’s RBI groundout RBI in the first is all Friedman would need. Eyler tacked on an RBI groundout in the 2nd for a 2-0 lead. Flamm and Loeb had RBI’s in the 5th and Eyler’s RBI single in the 6th completed the Bombers scoring and kept them in 3rd place heading into the last month of the playoffs.

Game 1: Sky & Sky Inc. 8 (WP-Jeff Harris 10-3)  Deuces Up 4 (LP -Bob )

Sky & Sky was looking to come out strong after getting surprised by Deuces Up the last time they played. Sky & Sky scored 4 runs in the first inning. With two outs, Elliot Blank walked, Andrew Vanlandingham singled, and then Jeff Sacks hit a triple to knock in two runs. Brian Sky followed with a shot to right center for another triple, and scored on the throwing error to the cut-off man. Deuces Up responded with 4 runs in the top half of the second inning to even the score. Jeff Harris led off the bottom of the inning with a walk, and after a line-out and fielders choice, Andy Bloom hit a dribbler in front of the plate and a throwing error from the catcher led to a run and put Bloom on 3rd base. Blank then hit a triple to center knocking in Bloom. Both teams were held scoreless in the 3rd inning, and Dueces Up proceeded to take the lead by scoring 3 runs in the top of the 4th, due to some uncharacteristic sloppy defense. Sky quickly took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning. Rotts got it started with a walk, Steve Truitt singled, Andy Bloom singled to knock in a run, and then a Sac Fly by Blank. Jeff Harris held Deuces Up scoreless in the top of the 5th to keep the lead at 8-7. Andy Bloom had a big two out hit in the bottom of the inning to drive in Harris and Rotts, but ended the inning when he was caught trying to advance to 2nd base. Sky was leading 10-7 when Deuces Up started arguing with the umpire which led to two ejections. This left Deuces Up short on players, so unfortunately this competitive game ended early and the 2nd game resulted in a forfeit.
