Game 1: Bombers 20 (WP- Jay Walle 3-1)  Stingers 8 (LP-Larry Newman 3-2)

The Bombers swept the Stingers to take over first place. The Bombers needed 2 well pitched games from Jay Walle and a game winning 2 RBI double with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th by Raashad Johnson to squeak by the Stingers.

In game 1, the Bombers struck in the top of the first for a 2-0 lead .Shad led off with an infield single and Ben Gutman followed with another infield single .Dave Flamm scored Shad on an RBI groundout and Marc Loeb hit an RBI triple. The Stingers came back to score 2 in the bottom of the first to tie it at 2-2. In the 3rd the Bombers broke open the game by scoring 6 runs to take a commanding 8-2 lead. Walle reached on an error,.Chaim Finkelstein doubled down the line and Shad tripled both home with a triple over the right fielder’s head. Ben knocked in Shad with a bullet up the middle. After Mikie Georgie reached on an error Flamm hit a long sac fly that scored 2 runs. The final run of the inning scored on a Stingers error ( their 4th error of the inning).

Shad walked, Ben singled and Flam hit a sac fly. The Stingers started putting hits together and took a commanding 6-1 lead. The only reason the Bombers were still in the game was because of an amazing catch by Ben Guttman that saved 3 runs.

The Bombers chipped away on a 2 run HR in the bottom of the 3rd by Shad to cut the Stingers lead to 6-3.Tim Palo hit an RBI triple to push the Stingers lead to 7-3. The bombers wouldn’t go away. Game 1: Sky & Sky Inc. 18 (WP-Dave Davis 1-0)  Natty O's 7 (LP - RJ Seabeck 3-6)

Both teams were short a few players on a beautiful mothers day. Sky & Sky was only able to play 3 outfielders in the early stages of the game and was relying on a new pitcher. The Natty O's took advantage early, scoring 7 runs through the first 4 innings including with Chris Keelan, Eric Blum and John Murphy came through with singles while a 2 RBI double from Jason Smulson gave the O's an early lead . Sky was hitting as well, and it was a 1 run game in the 5th when multiple errors by the Natty O's led to a 10 run inning that proved to be too much to overcome. Sky would add a few more runs, but the damage had already been done as Sky took game one.

Sky & Sky was short-handed, for the third weekend in a row. Dave Davis made his debut and filled in at pitcher, but Sky had to play with 9 fielders for the majority of the game. Neither team scored in the first inning. Sky and Sky got one run in the 2nd after walks by Dave Davis and Gabe Silber were followed by a 2-out single by Eric Radom. The Natty O’s responded with two runs in the bottom of the 2nd to take the lead. Sky and Sky got 2 more in the 3rd, highlighted by triples from Andrew Vanlandingham and Andy Bloom. Davis struggled a bit in the bottom of the 3rd inning as the Natty O’s scored 4 runs and took a 6-3 lead. In the top of the 4th, a combination of walks and errors led to a 10-run inning from Sky, and seemed to put the game out of reach, with Sky taking a commanding 13-6 lead. Sky tacked on 3 more in the 5th and two more in the 6th and Sky ended up with an 18-7 victory.

Offensive leaders for Sky:
Eric Radom: 4-5, BB, 3RBI, R

Game 2: Sky & Sky Inc. 5 (WP-Brian Sky 1-1)  Natty O's 4 (LP - RJ Seabeck 3-7)

The defense settled down in game 2 as the two pitchers dueled it out for 7 innings. Chick Veditz filled in quite nicely as catcher, and runs were hard to come by but with a few clutch hits from Jeff Kapper and RJ Seabeck, the O's managed to get to the 7th inning tied 4-4. With a man on, sky roped a single to center, and the green light was given to the runner. The relay was on time but dropped as the winning run slid into home.

Game 2 was a battle right to the end. Both pitchers settled down and pitched well. The Natty O’s got a run in the top of the first. Sky responded with 2 runs after a lead-off single by Radom was followed by a 2-run home run by Elliot Blank. Davis held the Natty O’s scoreless in the 2nd inning, and Sky was able to take advantage of an infield error when Radom came through with a 2-out base hit, knocking in Mike Pavsner. The Natty O’s took a 4-3 lead with 3 runs in the top of the inning, and Sky went down 1-2-3. Neither team scored in the 4th but Sky finally tied the score in the 5th at 4-4 after singles by Mike Rottenberg and Eric Radom were followed by a sac fly off the bat of Andrew Vanlandingham. Both teams were held scoreless in the 6th. Sky was able to hold the Natty O’s scoreless in the top of the 7th, and needed just one run in the 7th to win it. Mike Rottenberg singled with one out. Eric Radom then grounded to 2nd with the Natty O’s getting the force at 2nd, leaving the speedy Radom at first base with 2-outs. Elliot Blank then lined one into centerfield and Radom was able to beat the throw, scoring all the way from first base to end the game.
