Game 1: Northwest Corridor 14 (WP-Howard Goldberg 9-2) Bombers 4 (LP- Tzvi Friedman 3-1)

For the 2nd week in a row NWC faced the challenge of a 1st place battle. This time against The Bombers who came into the matchup with just one loss thus far this young season. NWC struck 1st in the top of the 1st inning scoring twice. Adam Silverman and Trevor Walzl both drove in runs to give NWC an early lead. The game see-sawed back and forth for the 1st few innings. NWC managed one more run in the 2nd and one in the 3rd off of Bombers’ pitcher Tzvi Friedman. The Bombers put up a run in the 1st and two in the 3rd off of NWC pitcher Howard Goldberg. NWC finally broke the game open in the 5th inning scoring 5runs and then tagged on 5 more in the top of the 6th inning. Goldberg, Scott Snyder and Trevor Walzl all delivered big doubles in the two innings. The Bombers were never able to stage a rally against Goldberg scoring just one more run in the bottom of the 5th inning. NWC takes the opener with relative ease 14-4

Game 2:  Northwest Corridor 11 (WP-Howard Goldberg 10-2) Bombers 10 (LP- Jay Walle 5-1)

The Bombers started off game #2 looking to erase the lopsided game #1 loss. Marc Loeb took matters into his own hands launching a 3run homer over the fence to give The Bombers an early 3-0 lead. Snyder drove in Sweren with a base knock to center to bring NWC within 2 runs or the Bombers. A Jon Goldman rbi single and a Jon Herbst sac fly tied the game up in the 3rd. Goldberg was still battling the Bombers offense and new free agent acquisition Jay Walle was trying to keep the NWC offense at bay for The Bombers. Capitalizing on an error in the 3rd inning The Bombers scored once to take a one run lead. Tzvi Friedman then put The Bombers ahead by 3 drilling a triple to right centerfield. Chaim singled him in and going into the bottom of the 4th inning The Bombers enjoyed a 7-3 lead and control of the game. Mike Bowden hit a line drive triple to left centerfield to give NWC one more run but The Bombers got that right back the next inning when Brad’s double knocked in Jason Gardner. Looking like The bombers had control of the game, NWC came back strong in the bottom of the 6th. NWC drew two walks and had 6 hits in the inning leading to 6runs off of Walle and the Bombers’ defense. In the top of the 7th inning The Bombers took advantage of an error and a walk to score 2 more runs and tie things up again. Marc Loeb’s sac fly brought in Rashaad Johnson and Jason Gardner’s hard single to right center scored Ben Gutman. Scott Snyder led off the bottom of the 7th inning with a line drive single. NWC’s choosing a courtesy runner looked to have backfired as The Bombers chose a tired Goldberg to run for Snyder. Adam Silverman followed with a clutch single sending Goldberg to 3rd base and representing the winning run. Walle then intentionally walked Walzl and Brad Rosenberg launched a sac fly to left field easily scoring Goldberg and giving NWC the one run win and a doubleheader sweep.

NWC Game Notes:

· Not even halfway through the season NWC has now used 18 players, just 2 shy of their entire total from last season.

· Our 10-2 record going into the Memorial Day holiday break is a franchise best.

· A lot of career milestones were reached this weekend - Scott Sweren passed a couple milestones on Sunday surpassing 550 career ab’s and 150 Rbi’s . Jon Herbst surpassed the 500 AB milestone and 100 rbi’s. Goldberg surpassed the 200 runs scored plateau . Jon Goldman broke the 150 hit barrier. Brad Rosenberg reached 125 career rbi’s.

· The great Lee Pollak gets knocked out fiasco during BP of 2010 was almost repeated this past Sunday when Jon Goldman was viciously attacked by an errant softball during fielding practice. Despite his eye closing up to a little slit reminiascant of Rocky balboa he still managed to play in both games

Northwest Regional Park Field 2:    Umpire- Ray Huster
Game 1: Stingers 9 (WP-Larry Newman 4-3)  Natty O's 5 (LP- RJ Seabeck 3-8)

Stingers opened the day with their new uniforms and shut down Natty O’s top 4 relatively easy. In the b-1st it would be the most fireworks from the defensive game of the morning as the Stingers sent their entire line-up to the plate scoring 7 runs mostly off a in the park homerun from Sean Flynn. The Stingers infield was phenomenal shutting down almost everything and giving Newman great support. IN the t-5th, Natty O’s started dropping in bloopers and plated 3 to cut the Stingers’ lead by 4. Stingers answered back with one of their own for their other big stick as Mike Randall drove in Eisenberg from his double in the b-5th. Natty O’s would try to close the gap, but would only plate two with heads up fielding by the Stingers. IN the B-6ht, Stingers’ Mike Beverly provided another rbi scoring Serkes on his slicing single to have the score favoring the Stingers 9-5 after 6 innings of play. IN the t-7th,Newman and his defense shut down the Natty O’s pretty easy again to take the morning game 9-5.

Game 2:  Stingers 11 (WP-Tom Paulshock 2-3)  Natty O's 3 (LP- RJ Seabeck 3-9)

In the night cap, Tom Paulshock took to the mound After RJ Seabock kept the Stingers’ at bat quiet in the first. Paulshock would throw a dandy but the Natty O’s again would find bloopers in front of the Stingers to take the lead in the first two innings. Stingers would battle back when they had runners in scoring position and Tim Palo would slice a shot fair and have it roll to the fence to James Engler. Bret Eisenberg would add on with his rbi double to cut the Natty O’s lead by one. Paulshock and his defense would hold strong keeping the Natty O’s off the Board and give the Stingers an opportunity to tie things up in the 4th. After Mike Randall’s fence power triple left him on third, Sean Flynn would drive his SAC far enough for Randall to tie the game up at 3 a piece after 4. IN the b-5th. The flood gates opened as the Stingers would again for the second time of the day send its’ entire line-up to the plate. Mike Randall would be the power for this inning as he would have a base clearing double and the stingers would tack on a total of 7 giving them the lead by 7. Stingers would again add on in the b-6th with three more runs. Paulshock and his defense would shut down the Natty O’s in the top of the 7th and hold the nightcap with a 13-3 win and a sweep to keep them in the middle of pack of the league standings.

Game 1: Sky & Sky Inc. 27 (WP-Jeff Harris 4-1)  Thunderbirds 0 (LP - Jerome Ragsdale 0-3)  (4 Innings)

Sky & Sky was happy to get Jeff Harris back, after missing him for the last 3 weeks. He ended up nearly pitching a perfect 4 innings, with the only blemish coming from a close play on an infield single that likely would have been an out, except that the bases were initially set at 60 feet, instead of 65 feet. Harris didn’t need any run support, but Sky’s offense came alive and took advantage of the Thunderbirds who were short on players. Sky sent 18 batters to the plate and scored 12 runs in the first inning. Eric Radom, Steve Truitt, Elliot Blank, Andrew Vanlandingham and Andy Bloom all reached base twice in just the first inning. Vanlandingham recorded his first walk since the 2010 season. Sky scored four more in the 2nd, 10 more in the 3rd, and another in the 4th to end the game at 27-0.
