Game 1: Stingers 13  (WP-Larry Newman 3-1)  Thunderbirds 7 (LP-Jay Walle 1-6)

Stingers opened the morning with their first meeting with the Thunderbirds. Both teams had quick 1st innings but things got going in the t-2nd when Brett Eisenberg got the ball flying and Ryan Becker did the same to set up Stuart Sheridan with 2 outs and runners on the bases. Sheridan would drive a 2 rbi triple to the fence to give the advantage. Matt Friedman helped out his squad driving in Sheridan with a slapper to right and the Stingers would open the t-2 with a 3-0 lead. T-Birds battled back but were only able to score one for 3-1 Stingers advantage after 2 innings of play. In the t-3rd, Stingers would send their entire line-up to the plate producing 4 rbis from the middle of their line-up from Mason, Randall, and Beverly’s singles along with Eisenberg and Engler doubles. Newman got great play from his team backing him up thereafter in the b-3rd shutting down the T-Birds after a scary collision between Becker and Ervin colliding on the base paths. Ervin would leave the game due to injury. Tim Palo would make his way on for Mike Randall to later nock him in for another run, but the T-Birds would come back with two of their own making it a 9-3 game after 4 innings of play. The 5th and 6th inning became a little dicy for the Stigners as the oulw allow the T-Birds to poke their way back into the game with four more runs, but it would be the Stingers in the t-7th led by Mike Randall’s towering solo home run and Mike Beverly’s fence power over the T-Birds Center fielder for an inside the park solo home run that pushed the Stingers ahead. Eisenberg, Engler and Sheridan also had keys bombs to give the stingers 4 more runs in the t-7th that would be sufficient for Newman the Stingers to shut down the T-Birds and take the morning game 13-7.

The day started as the sophomore Thunderbirds went against the veteran P Larry Newman and The Stingers. Both teams were scoreless after the 1st. in the 6th. Fontanez came in on Theo Battle's RBI single and Reggie Molock singled and scored on Roiy's RBI double. It's now 9-7. The Stingers would get 4 to seal the deal and take the 1st game of the day 13-7.

Game 2:  Thunderbirds 14  (WP-Jay Walle 2-6)  Stingers 12 (LP-Tom Paulshock 0-4 )
The afternoon game was much different than the morning game. The Stingers were looking to give him his first win of the season and the game was looking good as Paulshock would only allow 1 run to the T-Birds and tallied another k for the season. Paulshock also had a quick 2nd facing only 4 batters keeping the Stingers down by one. In the b-2nd, Beverly and Sheridan would double back to back. Mason would find a hole in the T-birds field followed by Paulshock blooping a single into the T-Birds field after intentionally walking Friedman to get to Paulshock. After 2 innings of play it was the Stingers taking back the lead 3-1. The third became tough for the Stingers as they would start to have technical difficulties allowing 4 runs to score in the 4th and another 4 in the 5th. Stingers began to battle back in the b-5th with Eisenberg on the bases, Flynn would tag the left center fence driving in Eisenberg and Randall would put one into right center for another rbi. With Beverly and Randall on the bases, Sheridan drove in both for a 4 run inning cutting into the T-Bird lead and making it a 9-8 Stingers game. In the t-6th, T-birds found more holes in the Stingers defense and tacked on 2 more runs for the lead by one. IN the b-6th, Friedman got his team moving and tied up the ball game with Flynn’s deep double to plate Palo. The Stingers tried to hold off the T-Birds but ended up giving the game away at the end with quiet bats dropping the afternoon game 14-10

Game 2 began with The Birds jumping out to a 1-0 lead after 1 when Reggie Molock scored on David Woods' RBI single. The Stingers would hold The Birds to an egg and score 3 to take a 3-1 lead after 2 innings. Let the battle begin!

In the top of the 3rd, The Birds would get going as Molock and Theo Battle would get singles. Woods would bring in Molock with an RBI single. A RBI double from John Roiy would allow Battle to score. Woods would score after a brief rundown on Tony Barner's FC. The Stingers would battle back and get 2 to make the game 5-4 Stingers.

The Birds would attempt takeoff again as Maurice Jamison would get a leadoff triple and score on Darnell Maxwell's RBI single. The bases would become loaded as Manny Fontanez would draw a free pass from Paulshock and Battle got a bloop single. Jay Walle, pinch running for Maxwell, would score when Paulshock issued a free pass to Woods. Roiy brought in Fontanez and Battle with a 2 RBI double. The score was 8-5 after 4 as The Birds held The Stingers scoreless in the bottom of the inning.

The Stingers would return the favor and hold The Birds to a blank as they scored 4 times to regain the lead, 9-8. The Thunderbirds refused to give in as Woods and Roiy both would single and score on Walle's 2 RBI single. Birds 10-9.

The Stingers would make this interesting as they got 1 across to tie the game at 10 heading into the final inning. In the top of the 7th, The Thunderbirds were cleared for takeoff on runway #2 as an overcast and small winds filled the air.

The stage was set as Molock would draw a 1 out pass from Paulshock. Two batters later, Woods hit a 2 out double. The time was now or never for the 2nd year Birds. Roiy then would bring Molock and Woods in with his second 2 RBI double. Barner followed with an RBI triple to knock in Roiy. Thunderbirds pitcher Walle added insurance with an RBI single scoring Barner to make it 14-10. The Birds defense made sure they would not be stung with a walk off loss as they shut down The Stingers to take the second game 14-10.
