Game 1: Green Machine 15 (WP- Bob Mallonee 6-9) Natty
O's 1 (LP- Alan Monico
) 5 Innings
Green Machine, fresh off of being offensively inept in the
previous week, took their frustration out on the Natty Os. GM started the game
well with a lead off walk by Mark Winkel, followed by singles from Nick Serkes,
Johnathan Stacey, Josh Vaeth, Mike Silverman, and Jeff Kapper to plate 5 runs in
the first inning. The 2nd inning was more of the same, with Bob Mallonee and
Winkel starting the inning with singles followed by a triple from Serkes to
plate both runners. Stacey hit his second RBI single in a row to plate Serkes
and for GM to take an early 8-0 lead. GM refused to let up in the 3rd inning
when Pete Sclafani got a lead off walk, followed by singles from Mallonee and
Winkel and another triple by Serkes to clear the bases. The inning continued
with an RBI double from Stacey and an RBI single from Billy Giles. The 4th
inning saw GM continue to be productive at the plate with singles from Rodney
Baysmore and Mallonee and a walk by Winkel to load the bases. Serkes would plate
1 with an RBI single and Stacey hit a Sac fly to score Mallonee, with the Natty
Os able to throw out Winkel trying to tag up from 2nd to home plate. The Natty
Os were able to score a run in the bottom of the 4th inning to prevent the
shutout, but the game ended in the 5th inning by a score of 15-1. Bob Mallonee
continued his masterful run of stellar pitching by holding the Natty Os to 1 run
and allowing 0 walks.
Green Machine Do Gooders:
Mark Winkel: 2-2, 2 BB, 3 R
Nick Serkes: 4-4, 2 3B, 3 R, 6 RBI
Johnathan Stacey: 3-3, 1 SF, 1 2B, 2 R, 4 RBI
Josh Vaeth: 2-2, 2 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI
Mike Silverman: 1-2, 2 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI
Bob Mallonee: 3-3, 3 R
Game 2: Green Machine 9 (WP- Bob Mallonee 7-9) Natty O's 8 (LP- Rob Medoff 0-1) 9 Innings
The Natty Os were determined to
come back strong in game 2, and were able to get 2 runs in the 1st inning. GM
answered back with 2 runs of their own thanks to RBI singles from Vaeth and
Silverman to score Serkes and Giles. The Natty Os took the lead back in the 3rd
inning with 1 run, but the GM bats answered right back thanks to a Stacey triple
followed by an RBI fielders choice from Vaeth. Natty Os continued to produce at
the plate when they scored 3 more runs in the 4th inning, this time with no
response from GM. The Os added another run in the 5th inning to take a 4 run
lead, but GM was able to get back a couple of runs to thanks to a Winkel walk
and a Serkes inside the park home run. GM was able to chip away at the lead
again in the 6th inning when they loaded the bases with a Baysmore walk, a Peksa
pinch hit walk, and a Mallonee single. Winkel was able to hit a sac fly to score
Baysmore, but the rally ended with Serkes having a bomb to centerfield tracked
down. With GM down by 1 run in the 7th inning, they were able to load the bases
with 0 outs thanks to singles by Stacey and Giles and a walk by Vaeth. Jeff
Kapper drew a 1 out RBI walk to tie the game at 7-7. Unfortunately GM was not
able to get the winning run home and the game went into extra innings. The Natty
Os took the lead with 1 run in the 8th inning and looked close to a win when
they got the lead off hitter in the bottom of the 8th. Winkel was able to get a
1 out double to keep GM hopes alive, and after advancing to 3rd on a Serkes fly
out, Stacey hit a clutch single to right field for Winkel to score the tying run
and send the game into a 9th inning. GM was able to keep the Os off the board in
the top of the 9th, and after singles from Vaeth and Silverman to start the
bottom of the 9th, the Natty Os were forced to bring their outfield in to
prevent the runner on 2nd from scoring. Kapper took this as an opportunity and
crushed a line drive to right center field to score Vaeth in a dramatic walk off
win.

action as TB scored twice with RBI singles from Woods (scoring Scott) and Barner
(scoring Walle). Again, Sky responded with 6 runs to take a 13-8 lead.
Both squads drew eggs in the 4th and 5th inning. TB tried to rally in the 6th

Game 1: Bombers 10 (WP-Tzvi Friedman 17-4)
Stingers 5 (LP-Larry Newman 4-16)
The Stingers and Bombers squared off on Sunday and Larry Newman pitched a great game but the Bombers rallied and won game 1- 9-5. The Stingers led 3-0 in the 3rd but the Bombers scored a run on Lurman’s RBI single. Trailing 4-1 going into the 6th, the Bombers scored 3 to knot it at 4-4. Flamm’s double plated 2 runs and Hochman’s double tied it up. After Friedman held the Stingers scoreless in the 6th, the Bombers scored 5 in the 7th. Eyler and Dan Gutman singled. Millman’s single made it 5-4. Croft and Ben Guttman plated the other runs. The Stingers defense which played solid for the first 5 innings , let Newman down at the end of the game. The Stingers battled the entire game and gave the Bombers all they could handle.
The Stingers met up with the
Bombers again this year and had a great first five innings of play. Newman would
get fly outs on 3 of the four Bombers to start off the game. The Stingers
returned the effort by Newman with lively bats and rbis from Sheridan and
Beverly to make 2-0 after one. IN the t-2nd Newman still commanded the Bombers
blanking them 1-2-3 and again the stingers would add on to their lead with
Bosley’s rbi after John Alkrine’s triple to make it 2-0 after 2 innings of play.
The bottom of the Bombers got them on the board, but it was the Stingers
continuing to add on to their lead as Friedman would slice a right field double
to plate Elrich after his own prior double. Going into the 6th it would be a 4-1
Stingers advantage. The Bombers would claw back in as flan would handcuff
Eisenberg for a two out 2rbi double, from their it would be the Bombers day with
the exception of the Stingers adding on another run from Friedman’s rbi single
letting the game slip by 10-5.
Game 2:
Bombers 8 (WP-Tzvi Friedman 18-4)
Stingers 3 (LP-Stu Sheridan 0-1)
The late game started as a mirror to each squad as they would both plate a run, the Stingers did it from a towering fence clanking double to score Sheridan from his earlier triple. IN the b-2nd it would eb the Stingers jumping out to the lead from another Bosley timely SAC to plate Elrich from his earlier double. After the second inning Stu Sheridan took the mound. The Bombers would only take advantage of his first time on the mound in the 3rd inning but did a fantastic job thereafter. Sheridan kept the Stingers in the game, but the Stingers would not be able to provide him enough support and let the day slip away. Sheridan is not sure if he will take the mound again anytime soon after a “look out” batted right back to him that he was able to catch before hitting him.
The Bombers swept the doubleheader by winning game 2, 8-3. Friedman got both wins and his 20 wins is believed to be a Pikesville Men’s softball record. In the 5th Milliman and Croft hit back to back HR’s.The Bombers go into the last week of the season against the Kings. The game has no meaning because The Kings have already solidified first place and the Bombers 2nd place.

Game 1: Kings 7 (WP- Mike Herr 12-1) Northwest Corridor 3 (LP-Howard Goldberg 7-6)
The Kings entered the day with a
chance to clinch 1st place if they could sweep NWC. They kept the goal alive
with a 7-3 win in the opener. Shilo Merwitz was in uniform for the first time
since fracturing 4 ribs 4 weeks ago. Kings ace Chuck Grant who had Achilles
Tendon repair surgery on 7/3 came out to give the team a pre-game pep talk.
Kings starter Mike Herr was able to retire NWC in order in t-1st. In b-1st, Koby
Sarubin singled and Kenny Salzman walked to start inning. Both runners moved up
on an Arin Gelletly flyout to LF. Jan Katzen hit an RBI fielder's choice
groundout to put Kings on scoreboard. Alan Varhaftik drew a walk and Steve Levy
hit an RBI 1B to CF to give Kings 2-0 lead. NWC had just 2 hits thru 3 1/2
innings as the Kings maintained the 2-0 lead into b-4th.
Singles by Varhaftik and Levy led to SF's by Glenn Savage and Rob Barrow. The
Kings added an additional run on an outfield throwing error and now had a 5-0
lead. NWC bats awoke in t-5th. Howard Goldberg BB, Adam Silverman 1B, Upshur
Webb 2 RBI 3B, and Oliver Peterson RBI 1B and the Kings lead was down to 5-3.
NWC still had 0 outs, but Herr was able to retire the next 3 hitters. NWC again
threatened in t-6th with 2 out singles by Jon Goldman and Brad Rosenberg, but
Kings got out of the inning on a groundout. The Kings added 2 runs in b-6th on 2
RBI HR by Alan Varhaftik, as the Kings took the opener 7-3.

Game 2:
Kings 7 (WP- Mike Herr 13-1)
Northwest Corridor 3 (LP-Ted Winner 7-6)
With the Bombers winning 3
straight games in late inning come-from-behind fashion, the Kings needed to take
care of the division title on their own. The Kings clinched 1st place in the
Regular Season with a 10-3 win over Northwest Corridor in the nightcap.
The Kings were strongly urged to give their starting pitcher Mike Herr a lead to
work with. In t-1st, the Kings loaded bases with 1 out on 1B by Kenny Salzman
and walks to Arin Gelletly and Jan Katzen. Alan Varhaftik came thru with a 2 RBI
1B thru the SS hole and following a 2 out walk to Rob Barrow, Shilo Merwitz also
delivered a 2 RBI 1B. The Kings were out to a 4-0 lead. NWC came right back in
b-1st with a rally of their own. Hit by Jon Goldman (1B), Howard Goldberg (2B),
Adam Silverman (2 RBI 2B), and Oliver Peterson (RBI 2B) cut the Kings lead to
4-3.
In t-2nd, Brad Millison and Mike Herr singled leading off inning. Koby Sarubin's
RBI fielder's choice ground out made score 5-3. Kings doubled their run total
with 5 more runs in t-3rd. Key hits in the rally were Steve Levy RBI 1B and Koby
Sarubin 2 out 2 RBI 1B. The Kings lead was now 10-3. The heat quieted down the
offenses the rest of the way as neither team scored in the final 4 innings of
the game.
