Game 1: Sky & Sky Inc. 11 (WP-Jeff Harris 2-0)  Natty O's 5 (LP-RJ Seabeck 5-8)

Hurricane Andrea couldn't stop Men's softball league from playing this week, so with field conditions well the O's took on Sky & Sky trying to inch up closer into the top half of the standings. RJ Seabeck homered in the bottom of the first to even up the ballgame, and the game was tied at 2 going into the 4th when Sky put up 4 runs in the 4th and then another 5 in the final 2 innings to pull away and take the first game 11-5.

Offensive leaders:
RJ Seabeck 2-3, HR, Run, RBI
Alan Monico 2-3, 3B, Run
John Murphy 2-3, run, RBI
Jon Veditz 2-3

Game 2:  Natty O's 5 (WP-RJ Seabeck 6-8)  Sky & Sky Inc. 4 (LP-Dave Davis 2-3)

The sun came out for game 2, and RJ Seabeck shined along with it. The O's put 2 runs up in the first with another RJ Homerun to take an early lead. Sky would battle back in the second inning to score 4 runs an take the lead but it didn't last long. The O's put up another 3 runs in the third thanks to base hits from Brian Horr who started things off and then Kris Stahle, RJ Seabeck, Justin Bullock and Brad were able to cap a 3 run inning to take the lead 5-4. That's how it would stay as RJ would shut down Sky the rest of the way along with some solid defense in the field. Brian Horr made some great plays at second base while Kris Stahle & Alan Monico got to virtually every fly ball hit their way.

Offensive leaders:
RJ Seabeck 2-3, HR, 3 RBI, 2 runs

Northwest Regional Park Field 2:    Umpire- Mark Radom
Game 1: Northwest Corridor 19 (WP-Howard Goldberg 4-4)  Stingers 3 (LP-Larry Newman 4-6) 6 Innings

For the second time the teams met in a mid standing race. The morning opened with NWC jumping ahead 2-0 after 1 1/2 innings of play. The Stingers jumped back into the mix in the b-2nd as Derrick Mason and Matt Friedman would get runs in back to back. Thereafter, NWC took advantage of the day only allowing the Stingers to jump on the board one more time with a Sheridan double followed by Sean Flynn’s rbi double.

Heavy rains didn’t damage our fields enough to prevent 2 doubleheaders from being played. The Stingers and NWC squared off again to start the 2nd half of the 2013 season schedule. NWC batted 1st and started the scoring off right away. Howard Goldberg doubled in Brad Rosenberg after his 1st inning triple. They added a 2nd run the next inning as Lee Pollak drove in Ben Herbst with a line drive to center field. The Stingers were able to tie the game up in the bottom of the 2nd inning and make it a close early ballgame. However NWC put runners on base every inning, never able to explode for a huge inning but always earning a couple runs. In the 3rd inning, Goldberg tripled in Rosenberg, Matt Silverman’s base knock into the gap in left center plated Goldberg. Into the 4th NWC finally had a bigger inning. Jon Herbst’s sac fly scored Chris Ammann, Goldberg singled in Pollak and Silverman sent a rope into the outfield to plate Rosenberg. Oliver Peterson crushed a Newman pitch over the left field fence for his 1st career home run and NWC now enjoyed a 10-2 lead. The Stingers scored one more in the 6th inning after back to back doubles from Stuart and Sean but the NWC offense never slowed down scoring 9 more runs over the next 2 innings. Lee Pollak tripled home Bell & Ammann and he scored after Rosenberg single. Into the 6th the onslaught continued as NWC stayed aggressive, took extra bases and forced The Stinger’s fielders into making throws. Final score 19-3 in 6 innings as NWC finally got over the .500 mark for the season.

Hitting Highlights NWC:
Chris Ammann 4-4 3R 2b 2rbi

Game 2:  Northwest Corridor 9 (WP-Ted Winner 5-3)  Stingers 8 (LP-Larry Newman 4-7)

In the afternoon game it was much different. Stingers jumped all over NWC started by Brett Eisenberg’s single, Rob Elrich’s double and a 2 rbi single from Sheridan. Sean Flynn would the jump on base with his single followed by Mike Beverly’s double for another rbi. In the bottom of the 1-st Newman and the defense were on point taking NWC down 1-2-3. In the t-2 it was the bottom of the Stingers making things happen. Mason would laser one into the outfield on NWc followed by Matt Friedman dropping in for runners on first and second. Newman and Eisenberg would try to get the runners in but they would have to wait until Elrich and Sheridan did that with their rbi singles. NWC battled back in the second to final put runs on the board making it a 6-2 game after 2 innings of play. NWC would continue to scratch at the Stingers’ lead and jump ahead by two after 4 innings of play. In the t-5th Elrich drove in Eisenberg for another rbi single on the day bringing the Stingers to within one of the tie. However, NWC had the same idea and extended their lead back to 2 runs. In the t-6th Friedman, with runners on the bases drove a solid single through the NWC left side scoring a run for the Stingers, but NWC would come up with the upset on the day for both.

The Stingers came out determined to erase the large game #1 loss plating 3 quick runs in the top of the 1st inning off of NWC pitcher Winner. Ted settled down the NWC defense and struck out the Stingers’ 7 & 8 batters back to back to end the inning. However in the top of the 2nd inning The Stingers’ bats stayed hot scoring 3 more runs and taking a commanding 6-0 early lead. Winner cooled off their bats in the 3rd & 4th innings putting the Stinger offense down in order in each inning. NWC got into the ballgame in the bottom of the 2nd inning after Ben Herbst & Matt Bell delivered back to back rbi’s and drawing NWC a little bit closer 6-2. Bottom of the 3rd inning NWC once again got to Newman, Ted Winner singled, Chris Ammann drew a walk and with 2 outs Goldberg drove them both home with a deep triple to the centerfield fence. Silverman lined him home the very next batter and NWC were now within one run of the lead. That lead would finally belong to NWC again in the 4th inning. Ben Herbst badly beat the Stingers’ left fielder and the speedy outfielder managed an inside the park 2run homer. Chris Ammann knocked in Aaron Birenbaum who had doubled 2 batters prior and NWC increased their new lead to 8-6. Brett Eisenberg scored for The Stingers in the 5th inning to come one run closer but NWC evened out that run in the bottom half of the inning when Jon Goldman knocked in Rosenberg for another insurance run. Matt Friedman’s single in the 6th brought the Stingers yet again one run closer 9-8 going into the bottom of the 6th. Looking to close the game out NWC left the bases loaded not taking advantage of the opportunity to end things. Winner allowed a base hit to fellow pitcher Larry Newman in the top of the 7th but fly outs from Brett & Sean ensured another victory, this one just by one run. With the sweep NWC tied Sky & Sky for 3rd place going into their matchup on June 16th.
