Round 1

Northwest Regional Park Field 1:    Umpire- Rick Simmons
Round 1: Northwest Corridor (4) 15 (WP-Howard Goldberg 8-7)  Natty O's (5) 11 (LP-RJ Seabeck 10-15) 

The Natty O's got off to a great start, scoring 6 runs in the first inning thanks to singles from Frank Divincenzo, Nick Meyer, Matt Bratter and Brad Wandell. NWC would respond in kind however, scoring 4 runs of their own in the bottom half of the first inning. The Natty O's would add a run each in the 2nd and 3rd inning and after a Tony Spangler triple in the 5th took an 11-7 lead. That wouldn't be enough however as NWC rallied from behind and took game 1 by a score of 15-11.

Northwest Regional Park Field 2:    Umpire- Mark Radom
Round 1: Sky & Sky Inc (1) 10 (WP- Jeff Harris 14-1)  Thunderbirds (8)  7 (LP-Lenny Fields 2-14) 

Jeff Harris held the Thunderbirds scoreless in the top of the first. Eric Radom and Steve Truitt led off the bottom of the first for Sky with consecutive walks. Matt Holley knocked in Radom, and Elliot Blank hit a Sac fly to score Truitt, giving Sky a 2-0 lead. The Thunderbirds didn’t score in the 2nd, and Sky got 2 more. Brian Sky singled, Aaron Birenbaum walked, and Jeff Harris and Eric Radom each had 2-out base hits to knock in runs. The Thunderbirds got on the board with 2 runs in the top of the 3rd to make it 4-2. Sky responded with 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning. Matt Holley led off with a double, Blank lined a single off the glove of the second baseman to score Holley, Andrew Vanlandingham singled, and Brian Sky singled up the middle to knock in 2 more. The Thunderbirds had their biggest inning in the top of the 4th, with 3 runs to make the score 7-5. Sky got one back in the bottom half of the inning. Jeff Harris led off with a single, advanced to third on a base hit from Holley, and then scored a Sac Fly from Blank. Neither team scored in the 5th to keep the score at 8-5. The Thunderbirds were determined to make things interesting, scoring 2 more in the top of the 6th, trailing by just a run. The inning ended with Matt Holley throwing out a runner at home plate. Jeff Harris led off the bottom of the 6th with a single, Radom followed with a base hit, and Blank hit another Sac Fly to knock in the final run. Jeff Harris held the T-Birds scoreless in the 7th, and Sky held on for the 10-7 win.

Northwest Regional Park Field 3:    Umpire- Scott Snyder
Round 1: Kings (3) 9 (WP-Mike Herr 14-4)  Green Machine (6) 2 (LP-Bob Mallonee 6-7) 

The Kings defeated Green Machine in the opening round of the 2014 PMSL Playoffs 9-2. The Kings built an early 6-0 lead after 2 innings and it remained that way until t-5th when GM put 2 runs on the board. The Kings added 3 runs in b-6th to pull away 9-2.

RBI singles in b-1st by Jan Katzen, Alan Varhaftik, and Troy Hendricks (2 RBI) contributed to the 4-0 Kings lead. Shilo Merwtiz's 2 out 2 RBI 1B in b-2nd extended Kings lead 6-0. In t-5th for GM, Andy Peksa led off with a 1B and scored on a Josh Vaeth RBI 2B. Billy Giles hit a 2 out RBI 1B scoring Vaeth and narrowing the Kings lead 6-2. Brad Millison's RBI 1B and Kenny Salzman's RBI fielder's choice helped Kings get 3 insurance runs in b-6th. GM was unable to score in the 7th with Kings coming out the victors 9-2.

Northwest Regional Park Field 4:      Umpire- Jeff Kurland

Round 1: Nationwide Bombers (2) 8 (WP-Tzvi Friedman 20-5)  Outlaws 2 (LP-Larry Newman 3-17) 

After delaying the playoffs a week because of weather, The Bombers beat the Outlaws 8-2 behind the solid pitching of Tzvi Friedman and stellar defense. In the bottom of the 1st, Rashad Johnson led off the game with a triple and scored on a poor relay for a quick 1-0 lead. In the 2nd, the Bombers extended their lead to 4-0. Jason Gardner and Marc Loeb led off with back to back singles. Friedman’s grounder was misplayed to score Gardner. Chaim Finkelstein walked and Yaakov Lichter’s bloop single made it 3-0. The Outlaws then made another error on a ball hit by Dan Gutman to extend the lead to 4-0.

Friedman was cruising as the Bombers added 2 more in the 3rd for a 6-0 lead. Ben Gutman led off with a double followed by a David Flamm single. Shulie Hochman hit a Sac fly and Gardner hit a shot up the middle off of Nemo for an infield hit. The Oulaws got on the board with a run in the 4th but the bombers got it back in the 5th on an RBI single by Flamm. Josh Friedman hit a long HR over the LCF fence to cut the Bombers lead to 7-2. In the 6th, the Bombers scored their final run on an RBI single by Finkelstein. The Bombers headed into game 2 to play their longtime rivals- the Kings.


Round 2

Northwest Regional Park Field 1:    Umpire- Rick Simmons
Round 1: Sky & Sky Inc. (1) 14  (WP-Jeff Harris 15-1) Northwest Corridor (4) 2 (LP-Ted Winner 11-4)  5 Innings

After watching NWC come from behind in the first game against the Natty O’s, Sky was ready to take on Ted Winner and NWC. In the previous 2 games during the regular season against Winner, Sky lost both, scoring a total of just 1 run in the two games. Sky finally figured out Winner.
NWC got the lead off man on in the 1st, and Up Webb hit one hard to LCF, but Pat Wilcox made an outstanding leaping catch to hold NWC scoreless. Winner got out of trouble in the first, stranding Holley and Vanlandingham who both singled. NWC got the scoring started with 2 runs in the top of the 2nd. In the bottom half of the inning, Poulton and Sky singled, and Mark Lester drove in a run with a liner to left. Then with 2 outs, Truitt singled to tie the game, and Radom hit an opposite field liner to RF to drive in 2 more, giving Sky a 4-2 lead. Harris held NWC scoreless in the top of the 3rd. Andrew Vanlandingham started the bottom of the 3rd with a single, Wilcox doubled, and then Blank hit a grounder to second base, scoring Vanlandingham and moving Wilcox over to third. Poulton also hit a grounder to second, scoring Wilcox, extending the lead to 6-2 at the end of the third inning. Harris had a 1-2-3 inning in the 4th, and then Sky exploded for 5 runs to break the game open in the top of the 4th. With 1 out, Truitt singled. Radom hit a grounder to second, but the throw to 2B was rushed to turn the double play and allowed both runners to be safe. Holley hit a fly ball to RCF, and on the long run to get to the ball, the ball was dropped. Vanlandingham knocked in a run with a single that loaded the bases. Wilcox then hit a grounder to 1B and the throw came into home to get the force out, but the stretch by the catcher pulled him off the base, and the runner was called safe. The bases were still loaded, and Elliot Blank knocked in two more runs with a single to RCF. Poulton then singled in the 5th and final run of the inning. At the end of 4, Sky led 11-3. Jeff Harris had another 1-2-3 inning, and then he led off the bottom half of the 5th with a base hit. Truitt hit into a fielders choice, and Radom singled. Holley knocked in a run with a single and Wilcox walked to load the bases. Elliot Blank hit a hard gounder just inside the bag at 1B, off the glove of the diving firstbaseman to drive in two runs and end the game early. Sky stayed in the winners bracket with a 14-2 win after five innings.

Northwest Regional Park Field 2:    Umpire- Mark Radom
Round 1: Natty O's (5) 11 (WP- RJ Seabeck 11-15)  Thunderbirds (8)  4 (LP-Lenny Fields 2-15) 

The Natty O's didn't let a tough loss haunt them as they took care of business against the Thunderbirds. Even after a run by the Thunderbirds gave them an early lead, The O's would put up 6 runs in the first 2 innings led Nick Meyer and RJ Seabeck as each had 2 hits in the first 2 innings. Sean Connolly would score 2 runs of his own down the stretch to widen the lead and RJ Seabeck clamped down as the O's eventually won 11-5.

Northwest Regional Park Field 3:    Umpire- Scott Snyder
Round 1: Green Machine (6) 13 (WP-John Reichert 4-10) Outlaws (7) 1 (LP-Larry Newman 3-18)  6 Innings

After suffering from a dearth of hits in round 1 of the playoffs, Green Machine was able to revitalize themselves in the 2nd round against the dangerous Outlaws. Lead off hitter Chris Goodwin got a single to start the game, significantly better then waiting until the 5th inning for the team to get their first hit. Goodwin would eventually score after a Jonathan Stacey single followed by clean up hitter Andy Peksa hitting a sac fly. GM bats really started to get going in the 2nd inning with a single from Mike Randall, a Billy Giles walk, and a mammoth 2 RBI triple from Logan Malane. With 2 outs, pinch hitter Chris Romero hit a clutch RBI single to drive in Malane with Romero later scoring on a Josh Vaeth RBI single.

GM continued to swing hot bats in the 3rd inning with Peksa and Brad Verbosky getting consecutive singles to start the inning. Mark Winkel hit a single to left field that was misplayed by the fielder allowing 2 runs to score and Winkel sliding into 3rd base. Giles would hit an RBI sac fly to give GM an 8-1 lead after 3 innings. Pitcher John Reichert lead off the 4th inning with a single, followed by a Goodwin walk and a Stacey RBI single. Verbosky was able to drive in 2 more runs on a shot that rolled to the center field fence for a stand up double. Winkel lead off the 5th inning with a single, advanced to 2nd on a fly out, and then scored on a Malane RBI single to make it a 12-1 game after 5 innings. In the bottom of the 6th inning, Vaeth hit a 1 out single then advanced to 3rd on a Stacey single. Andy Peksa was finally able to experience a positive walk off at bat when he hit a long fly ball to center field that easily scored Vaeth on a sac fly that earned GM a place in the 3rd round.

Round 1: Nationwide Bombers (2) 4 (WP-Tzvi Friedman 21-5)  Kings (3) 3 (LP-Chuck Grant 6-3) 

A well played defensive game resulted in a low scoring playoff game with the Bombers holding on to defeat the Kings in PMSL Round 2 4-3. Bombers Tzvi Friedman and Kings Chuck Grant were both excellent on the mound. All 7 runs in the game were scored in the 3rd inning.

Chuck Grant led off t-3rd drawing walk. With 1 out Steve Levy singled. Arin Gelletly's SF to LCF got the Kings ahead 1-0. 2 out singles by Shilo Merwitz, Jan Katzen (RBI) and Alan Varhaftik (RBI) helped build the Kings lead 3-0. In b-3rd, Meir Parry reached on a 1 out infield error. Consecutive 1 out hits by Dan Gutman, Yaakov Lichter, Steven Georgie (2 RBI 2B) and Ben Gutman (RBI 1B) tied score 3-3. David Flamm's SF to RCF put Bombers ahead 4-3.

Kings threatened in t-4th with 2 on and 2 out. Koby Sarubin singled to LCF, but a perfect throw from LCF Ben Gutman to SS Dan Gutman to C Mark Loeb was able to nail Brett Eisenberg on a close play at the plate. The Kings also threatened in t-7th. Kenny Salzman and Eisenberg both reached on infield hits to leadoff inning. Chuck Grant flied out deep to LF, allowing both runners to advance. Tzvi Friedman was able to strikeout Koby Sarubin and then retire Steve Levy on a groundout to close out the win for the Bombers.

Round 3

Northwest Regional Park Field 3:    Umpire- Scott Snyder
Round 3: Sky & Sky Inc. (1) 17 (WP-Jeff Harris 16-1)  Nationwide Bombers (2) 13 (LP-Tzvi Friedman 21-6)

The Bombers jumped out early with 4 runs in the first inning, and after Sky tied it up, the Bombers once again jumped ahead 9-4, but Sky kept it close until a big 8 run inning in the 5th to finally take the lead and held on to win the high scoring game.

In the top of the 1st, Gersham singled to lead off the game, and Micke followed with a double. Flamm knocked them both in with a single. With 2 outs, Loeb hit a ball to RF that was misplayed and went to the fence, scoring two more runs and giving the Bombers the early 4-0 lead. Steve Truitt got things started for Sky, leading off with a liner up the middle. After a flyout, Holley tripled knocking in Truitt, and Pat Wilcox singled to bring in Holley. Jeff Harris had a 1-2-3 inning in the 2nd, and Sky got one back in the 2nd after Eric Radom singled to knock in Mark Lester who reached on an error to 3B. With the score tied at 4-4, the Bombers had another big inning. Dan Gutman led off with a single, Gerham doubled, Ben Gutman reached on an error to SS which scored a run, and Flamm knocked in a couple with a double. Shule and Flamm singled to bring in the 5th run of the inning, giving the Bombers a 9-4 lead. Andrew Vanlandingham got the bottom of the 3rd stared off with a double, Elliot Blank walked, and after a flyout, Shaun Poulton, Mark Lester, and Jeff Harris got base hits to score 3, and Truitt hit into a fielders choice scoring another to bring Sky to within one run, at 9-8. The Bombers scored 3 more in the 4th, and Sky trailed 12-8. Holley got to 3B on an error to RF, and Pat Wilcox hit a Sac Fly to make it 12-9 after 4 complete. Harris then settled down, holding the Bombers in check in the 5th. In the bottom of the 5th, Sky batted around. Shaun Poulton led off the big inning with his first of two hits in the inning. Lester followed with his first of two hits in the inning. Andy Bloom came in as a pinch hitter, and singled to load the bases. After being down 0-2, Truitt fought back and walked to bring in a run, and Radom hit a Sac Fly to bring in another. Holley singled to tie the game, and Wilcox singled to put Sky ahead. Andy Vandlandingham then hit a grounder to 1B, but the throw to second was wide, and ended up in left field. With two out, Brian Sky, Shaun Poulton and Lester singled before the final out of the inning. Sky scored 8, to take a 17-12 lead. Neither team scored in the 6th. The Bombers scored one more in the 7th, and had two runners on base, but Sky held on for the victory.

Northwest Regional Park Field 4:    Umpire- Jeff Kurland
Round 3: Kings (3) 10 (WP-Mike Herr 15-4 ,Save-Chuck Grant (1)  )  Green Machine (6) 8 (LP-John Reichert 4-11)

The Kings took an early 5-0 lead in 1st inning and held on to win in a close game 10-8 over Green Machine. Kings b-1st included 5 hits and 2 walks. 2 RBI singles by Shilo Merwitz and Troy Hendricks, along with 2 out RBI 1B by Kenny Salzman helped build 5-0 lead. Green Machine got 3 runs back in t-3rd. Skyler Dickinson led off inning with a 3B as Kings LF Alan Varhaftik lost his footing. Billy Giles singled in Dickinson. With 1 out, Josh Vaeth singled and Nick Serkes hit SF to RCF. Jon Stacey's 2 out RBI 2B scored Vaeth, narrowing Kings lead 5-3. In b-3rd, Alan Varhaftik drew a 1 out walk and scored on when Troy Hendricks also reached on an infield error. Glenn Savage followed with an RBI 3B and Salzman then hit an RBI 1B giving Kings 8-3 lead.

In t-4th, with 2 outs GM Mark Winkel singled and Mike Randall hit an RBI 2B to LCF gap. In b-th, with 2 on and 2 out, Troy Hendricks launched a 2 RBI 2B to the fence in LCF putting Kings lead 10-4. In t-6th, Green Machine fought back. With 2 out and 1 on, consecutive singles by Logan Milane, Mark Winkel (RBI), Mike Randall (RBI), Skyler Dickinson (RBI), and Billy Giles (RBI) had GM back to within 10-8. John Reichert worked the count full and fouled off 3 pitches before drawing a walk to load bases for GM. Kings starter Mike Herr was replaced by Chuck Grant and Grant was able to strikeout Josh Vaeth with the bases loaded to close off further damage.

In t-7th, Serkes led off inning with a double, but Grant was able to retire the next 3 hitters preserving a victory for the Kings 10-8.

Jeff Harris held the Natty O’s to just one run, and Sky continued to keep the bats hot. The Natty O’s had just 9 players, and Sky took advantage of the outfield gaps. The game ended at the end of 5, with Sky winning 13-1.

Round 4: Kings (3) 7 (WP--Chuck Grant 7-3)  Nationwide Bombers (2) 3 (LP-Tzvi Friedman 21-7)

The Nationwide Bombers and Kings met in a re-match of Round 2. The Bombers took that game last week 4-3. The Kings surpassed last week's run total in t-1st scoring 5 runs and held on to win 7-3. Chuck Grant was terrific on the mound for the Kings, allowing just 6 hits and 0 walks. With 1 out in t-1st, Steve Levy singled, Arin Gelletly walked, Shilo Merwitz singled (RBI), and Jan Katzen singled (RBI). Following a strikeout for the 2nd out, Troy Hendricks tripled (2 RBI) and Brad Millison singled (RBI). Kings starter Chuck Grant retired the first 7 Bombers hitters. In b-3rd with 1 out, Tzvi Friedman tripled and scored on Meir Parry RBI fielder's choice groundout. The score remained 5-1 thru 6 innings.

In t-7th, Brad Millison singled to leadoff inning and with 2 outs, Grant singled and moved up to 2nd base on the outfield throw towards 3rd base. Koby Sarubin came thru with a clutch 2 out 2 RBI 1B extending Kings lead 7-1. The Bombers, however, were not ready to give up. In b-7th Ben Gutman reached on an infield error and Gershon Yakobovitch singled with 0 outs. Following a fielder's choice groundout, Ben Gutman singled to load bases with 1 out. David Flamm hit a SF to LF and Shulie Hochman hit an RBI 1B to pull Bombers within 7-3 with 2 outs and 2 on. Kings Grant was able to retire Jason Gardner and a forceout grounder to end the game and send the Kings back to the PMSL Finals.

Round 5

Round 5: Kings (3) 14 (WP-Chuck Grant 8-3)  Sky & Sky Inc. (1) 4 (LP-Jeff Harris 17-2)

The Kings were meeting Sky & Sky Inc. in the PMSL Finals for the 3rd time in the past 4 seasons. Sky had won the previous 2 match-ups in 2011 and 2013. Sky was undefeated entering the day, while the Kings had been defeated earlier in the Tournament by the Nationwide Bombers. The Kings needed to sweep Sky to capture the 2014 PMSL Playoffs title.

In t-1st, the first 5 batters reached base against Sky starter Jeff Harris. Koby Sarubin led off the game with an infield single. Steve Levy singled to RF moving Sarubin to 3rd base. Shilo Merwitz reached on an infield error with Sarubin scoring the 1st run of the game. Arin Gelletly singled to load bases with 0 outs. Jan Katzen hit a 2 RBI 1B to LCF with Gelletly and Katzen moving up an extra base on an overthrow towards home plate. Alan Varhaftik then singled home Gelletly, with Katzen held at 3rd base. With runners on the corners and 1 out, Troy Hendricks hit into a fielder's choice groundout with Katzen scoring. Kings lead after 1/2 inning was 5-0. In b-1st, Sky started out hot at the plate also. Eric Radom singled to CF, Matt Holley hit an RBI 3B, and Andy Vanlandingham an RBI groundout cutting the Kings lead after 1st inning 5-2.

In b-2nd, Jay Walle and Marc Lester singled with 1 out. Arin Birenbaum hit a comebacker to the mound, Kings starter Chuck Grant started a rare 1-5-4 doubleplay to end the threat. In t-3rd, With 1 out Merwitz singled and Arin Gelletly hit a HR over the fence in LCF. Jan Katzen doubled and Alan Varhaftik hit an RBI 1B to put Kings lead 8-2. In b-3rd, with 1 out consecutive singles by Radom, Holley, Vanlandingham, and Elliott Blank (2 RBI) narrowed Kings lead 8-4. Sky still had 2 on and 1 out when Brian Sky hit a groundball to Kings 3B Jan Katzen who started a 5-5-4 doubleplay.

In t-4th, Glenn Savage singled and Kenny Salzman walked to start inning. Chuck Grant flied out deep to LF, with both base runners advancing. Koby Sarubin grounded out to the pitcher, but Savage broke home on the throw to first base and beat the throw home from Sky 1B Vanlandingham. Kings put the game out of reach with 5 runs in t-7th. Key hits were RBI 1B by Katzen, bases clearing 3 RBI 3B by Varhaftik, and RBI 1B by Brett Eisenberg. Kings won the Round 5 game 14-4 forcing a Round 6.

Round 6 -- Championship Game

The Kings and Sky & Sky Inc. were meeting in a Round 6 game for the 3rd time in the past 4 seasons. In 2013, the Kings won a Round 5 game with a
6-3 over Sky, but Sky won the Round 6 Championship 4-2. The Kings again won the Round 5 game and they were hoping the outcome would be
different in 2014. Both #1 starting pitchers-- Kings Chuck Grant, Sky's Jeff Harris-- missed time during the Regular Season because of injuries, but
they were out their again for the Round 6 Championship Game. For Grant, it was his first doubleheader start since April 28, 2013.

The Kings were again the visitors and again got on the scoreboard right away. Once more the first 5 Kings batters reached base, this game all on base
hits. Koby Sarubin led off with an infield single and Steve Levy again singled him to 3rd base. Shilo Merwitz hit an RBI 1B for the first run of the game.
Arin Gelletly followed with a 3 RBI HR over the fence in LCF, his 2nd HR on the day and the Kings were ahead 4-0.

In b-1st, Eric Radom led off with a 1B. Following 2 groundouts, Elliot Blank reached on an infield error. Brian Sky singled (RBI) and Blank scored when
the Kings attempted the throw out Sky advancing to 2nd base on the cutoff throw into the infield. Shaun Poulton then singled home Brian Sky and the
Kings lead was down to 4-3.

In b-2nd, Mike Deutchendorf reached on an infield error to lead off inning. Eric Radom drew a 1 out walk. Matt Holley singled to RCF, but the Kings were able to nail the potential tying run Deutchendorf at the plate on an excellent relay play starting with Koby Sarubin to Arin Gelletly to C Glenn Savage. However, Andy Vanlandingham, the next hitter singled home Radom and the score was tied 4-4.

In t-4th, the Kings loaded bases with 0 outs on Merwitz 1B, Gelletly walk, and Jan Katzen single. Alan Varhaftik launched a bases clearing 3 RBI 2B to the warning track in LF. Kings regained lead 7-4. In b-4th, Deutchendorf led off with 1B and with 1 out, singles by Radom and Holley loaded the bases for Sky. Vanlandingham then followed with an RBI 1B, with the bases remaining loaded with 1 out. Elliot Blank hit a hard ground ball to Kings 3B Jan Katzen who stepped on 3rd base for an out and then threw home where Kings catcher Glenn Savage applied the tag on Radom for an inning ending doubleplay.

In t-5th, with 2 on and 1 out, Varhaftik hit an RBI 2B and Troy Hendricks produced a 2 RBI 1B extending Kings lead 10-5. The Kings loaded bases with 2 outs in t-6th, but were unable to score. In b-6th, Jeff Harris 1B, Matt Holley 1 out walk, Vanlandingham RBI 1B, Elliot Blank RBI 2B, and Brian Sky RBI SF narrowed the lead to 10-8. In b-7th, Jay Walle was retired on a routing popout to SS to start inning. Marc Lester then hit a popup to shallow left field, but Kings SS Arin Gelletly made an outstanding running catch on the ball in shallow LF retiring Lester for the 2nd out of the inning. Deutchendorf then flew out to Kings RCF Brett Eisenberg ending the game and bringing the 2014 PMSL Championship to the Kings.
