Game 1: Bombers 11 (WP-Dave Pridgen 1-0)  Natty O's 2 (LP-RJ Seabeck 0-3)

The Nationwide Insurance Bombers and Natty O’s split a doubleheader on Sunday. The Bombers won the first game 11-2 and lost the nightcap 7-5. David Pridgen won game 1 and Russ Zapocosta took the loss in game 2. The Bombers played without Tzvi Friedman, David Flamm, Mark Loeb and Zach Reed who missed because of Passover and Easter. Game 1 was very close through 4 innings with the Bombers holding a 4-2 lead. The Bombers scored a run in the 2nd on a single by Donny Vanderwalde who scored Jason Gardner after his leadoff single and a run in the 3rd on a sac fly by Gardner and a 2 run single by Meir Parry. The Natty O’s would score their only runs of the game in the 4th on a walk, a triple and a SF.

The Bombers then got down to business and scored 3 in the 5th , 2 in the 6th, and 2 in the 7th for the 11-2 victory. In the 5th,Pridge led off with an infield single and Gershon hit a single. After a force out, Ben hit a ball that was misplayed by the O’s and 2 scored. Mikie Georgie then plated Guttman with an RBI single. Chaim Finkelstein led off the 6th with a single and Gabe Silber pinch hit and hit another single in his first at bat of the year. Gershon followed with a 2 run single. The NIB tacked on their 2 final runs in the 7th. Shad singled and Ben walked. After a Sac Fly by Mikie, Shulie Hochman scorched a double for an RBI. Gardner’s groundout plated Hochman. Pridge did the rest. He pitched an awesome game to move to 1-0.

On a chilly Sunday morning, it seemed as though the Natty O’s bats were just as cold. The O’s couldn’t get lot going off of David Pridgen, but RJ Seabeck kept the game close trailing just 4-2 after 4 innings. The Bombers bats would come alive after that, scoring 7 runs over the next 3 innings and putting the game out of reach.

Natty O's Offensive leaders:
RJ Seabeck 3-3, R, RBI

Game 2:  Natty O's 7 (WP-RJ Seabeck 1-3) Bombers 5 (LP-Russ Zappacosta 0-1)

In game 2, Zapocosta took the mound as a starter for the first time in 8 years and did an admirable job. The O’s jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st and would have had more but Gershon made an amazing play in RCF and turned it into a DP. The Bombers tied it up in the bottom of the 1st on Georgie’s Sac Fly and then quickly retook the lead in in the 2nd. Gardner tripled into the RF corner and Parry walked. After Pridge popped out, Chaim’s RBI single made it 2-1. Vanderwalde singled to load the bases. Silber pinch hit for Zapocosta and hit a 2 run single for a 4-1 lead. In the 4th, Shad hit a double and went to 3rd on an error. Shad scored on Finkelstein’s RBI single. The O’s tied it up in the 5th and scored one in the 6th and one in the 7th for the 7-5 victory. The Bombers had plenty of runners on but the O’s held on and sent the Bombers home with their first loss of the season.

The O’s jumped out to an early 1-0 lead but saw it quickly evaporate into a 1-5 hole by the 5th inning. However, thanks to a huge triple by Matt Bratter, the O’s would score 4 runs to tie the game. The O’s would take the lead the next inning, and tack on an insurance run in the 7th including a sac fly by Justin Bullock that scored RJ Seabeck from second base. RJ was brilliant in the second half of the game, shutting the bombers bats down down the stretch.

Natty O's Offensive leaders:
Seth Woodward 3-3
Matt Bratter 2-3, 3 RBI, R
Rob Medoff 2-2, BB, R

Bombers Notes- congrats to Shulie Hochman who is getting married on the 28th.

Game 1: Northwest Corridor 6 (WP-Howard Goldberg 2-0)  Outlaws 5 (LP-Larry Newman 0-3)

NWC squared off against the new expansion team Outlaws but despite the new uniforms and new name, there were plenty of familiar faces. Josh Friedman hit a sac fly in the top of the 1st inning to give the Outlaws a brief lead. NWC’s top of the lineup met veteran Larry Newman rudely earning 5 runs scored off of 6 hits in the bottom of the 1st. Howard Goldberg doubled home Gabe Unterman, Adam Silverman’s sac fly to center scored Goldberg after Up Webb had advanced him to 3rd base. John Karsos came up two batters later and drilled a 3run homer over the left centerfield fence to give NWC a 5-1 lead. It looked like it was going to be a blowout early but Newman and the Outlaws held NWC in check for the next 6 innings. Meanwhile The Outlaws took advantage of some Goldberg wildness and plated 3 more runs in the 2nd inning. What appeared to be a slugfest turned into a 5-4 game until the top of the 6th inning when a Theo Battle sac fly tied up the ballgame. So for the 2nd week in a row it was left up to NWC to steal a victory in their last at bat. Jon Herbst drilled a line drive leadoff single to right center and Jon Goldman followed with another base hit. Herbst hustled from 1st to 3rd with no outs to out himself just 65 feet from winning the game. Matt Bell hit a two long fly balls to deep left field that both just went foul. He followed with another fly ball but was too shallow to score Herbst. Up comes Dave Davis making his NWC debut and in dramatic fashion Dave hit a long high fly ball to score Herbst, end the game and play the role of hero in his NWC debut.

Week 2 of the season has another exciting matchup, with the 2012 champs Northwest Corridor facing the upstart Outlaws. The first inning was loaded with action as NWC jumped on the Outlaws ace Larry Newman early to plate 5 runs, highlighted by a 3 run home run by there rookie shortstop Karsos, and had the Outlaws manager say where did they get that guy? The new kids were unfazed as they battled back to plate a run of there on as Reggie Molock making his season debut drew a one out walk, followed by a Stanley Lyles single to advance Molock to third. David Woods also draws a walk of his own to load the bases for next batter Josh Friedman who hits an RBI sac fly to plate Molock. At the end of one NWC leads 5-1.

Top of the second Darnell Maxwell draws a one out walk, followed by a Chas West single, Will McCrae also draws a walk to load the bases for Larry Newman who smokes a 2 run double to score Maxwell, and West, and draw them Outlaw boys to within 2 at 5-3. Next batter sizzling rookie Darren Stimpfle making his PMSL debut smashes an RBI double of his own to plate McCrae, to bring the freshmen to within 1. NWC ace Goldberg somehow digs into his bag of tricks to get the final two outs and limit the damage. NWC 5-4 after 2.

Great Uncle Nemo puts it on cruise control as he shut NWC down for the next 5 innings assisted by fantastic defense mainly from the Outlaws athletic outfield. Goldberg also settles in as he keeps the Outlaws off the board until the top of the 6th inning Stanley Lyles gets on with a leadoff walk, next batter David Woods singles to advance Lyles to third. Next batter Josh Friedman plates Lyles with an RBI groundout to tie the game 5-5. Outlaws couldn't get any runs in the 7th, and the bottom of 7th Matt Bell got a leadoff single, got moved to third, and Dave Davis hit a sac fly to score Bell to win an exciting hard fought game! NWC 6 Outlaws 5!

In Game 2 the Outlaws hung tough in the beginning with NWC scoring 2 in the first. Darren Stimpfle gets a one out single and scores on Theo Battle's sac fly. David Woods draws a 2 out walk, advances to third on a Josh Friedman single. Reggie Molock delivers an RBI single of his own to plate Woods.

In the third inning Maurice Scott leads off with a single, is forced out on Stimpfle's fielders choice. Stimpfle's scores on and RBI single by Battle. Woods gets his second walk of the game, next batter Friedman gets walked. Molock up next, get an RBI groundout for his second RBI of the game. Ted Winner the other ace for NWC settles in and quiets the Outlaw bats for the next few innings except for a Theo Battle triple where he was left stranded on third. Chas West came on in relief for the Outlaws for his PMSL pitching debut and pitched 2 scoreless innings.

Dave Davis came on in relief for NWC and shut the bats down except for Lucki Lemmon Jrs. monster bomb over the left center field fence for his first career PMSL home run. Lucki Lemmon is playing in his first game since July 2012 after breaking his foot in a game vs. Deuces Up while making a play in the outfield. After 2 years of rehab he's baaaaack and ready to contribute to the Outlaws success. Welcome back Lucki!!! NWC hit the mess outta the ball and won the game 14-5!

Much different game speed in the 2nd part of the doubleheader. The Outlaws appeared to run out of steam and NWC’s bats started to heat up. Goldberg and Webb both doubled in the top of the 1st inn followed by an Adam Silverman single, Karsos walk and a 3rbi double in the centerfield gap by Brad Rosenberg. The Outlaws managed to plate 2runs in the 1st off of ted winner and 2 more runs off of Winner in the 3rd but for the most part the veteran NWC pitcher was cruising through the lineup. NWC broke tings open in the 4th inning, Matt Silverman knocked home Karsos, Davis drove home Rosenberg and Winner helped his own cause with a sac fly to left scoring Herbst. Moving onto the 5th inning NWC scored 6 more runs led by an Oliver Peterson 3run bomb over the centerfield fence. Newman managed to limit the NWC damage further and keep his squad in the game. Dave Davis relived Winner on the mound for the last 2 innings, making his NWC pitching debut and closing out the win for the now 4-0 Northwest Corridor. Next week a big 1st place matchup between NWC & The Kings. NWC will be without 5 starters including its left side of the infield and outfield.

Game 1: Sky & Sky Inc. 10 (WP-Jeff Harris 3-0)  Green Machine 8 (LP-Bob Mallonee 0-1)

In week 2 Green Machine took the field missing several of its regulars due to the holiday. Green Machine was able to get on the board in the top of the 1st inning after Matt Boden tripled and Jonathan Stacey cashed him in with a RBI fielder’s choice. In the bottom of the 1st Bob Mallonee took the mound and was making his season debut on the mound for Green Machine. Co-Skipper Andy Peksa began game 1 behind the plate for Green Machine as their Iron Man catcher Pete Sclafani dealt with a personal matter. The Green Machine got the scoring started with one in the top of the 1st inning. Sky & Sky welcomed Eric Radom back after a year off, and he promptly drilled a line drive base hit. Jere Preston doubled to get runners on 2nd and 3rd, and Elliot Blank grounded out, scoring Radom. Aaron Birenbaum came up with a 2-out single to score Walle, Harris singled and Radom singled to knock in Birenbaum.
