Game 1: Bombers 13 (WP-Tzvi Friedman 3-0)  Green Machine 0 (LP-John Reichert 0-1) 5 Innings

In game 1, the Bombers scored a lot of runs and Green Machine didn't score any.

The Nationwide Insurance Bombers and Green Machine split their doubleheader. The Bombers took game 1, 13-0 behind another dominating performance by Howie Friedman. Friedman’s record moved to 3-0 and his ERA is 0.00. He held a strong lineup down with a mixture of dominating fastballs and paralyzing change ups. The game ended after 5 innings.

Gershon Y. led off with a single and walks to Georgie and B. Gutman loaded the bases. Gardner hit a SAC fly for a 1-0 lead and an error by the Machine plated the 2nd run for the Bombers. The Bombers broke it open in the 3rd. Georgie and B. Gutman singled and Flamm walked to load the bases. Gardner tripled to the RCF fence to plate 3 runs for a 5-0 lead .Reed hit an RBI single and Hochman followed with a single. Loeb’s RBI single made it 7-0 and C. Finkelstein followed with an RBI single. After a forceout, Friedman helped himself with a 2 run single. Georgie’s 2nd single of the inning made it 11-0.

In the 4th, Parry PH for Reed and singled. After a Hochman single, D. Gutman’s shot to CF made it 12-0. The Bombers closed their scoring with a run in the 5th as B. Gutman drove home Gershon after his leadoff walk and Georgie’s double.

GM Box Score:
Brad Verbosky: 2-2
Pete Sclafani: 1-1

Game 2:  Green Machine 8 (WP-Bob Mallonee 1-2)  Bombers 6 (LP-Tzvi Friedman 3-1)

After getting shut out and mercy ruled in game 1, Green Machine came out with an early lead in game 2 thanks to singles from Nick Serkes, Matt Boden, and Brad Verbosky to take a 1-0 lead. The Bombers matched that run in the bottom of the 1st to tie the game. GM continued to be dangerous in the top of the 2nd with a lead off single from Chris Goodwin followed by a Skyler Dickinson double and a Pete Sclafani infield single to load the bases. Pitcher Bob Mallonee hit a sacrifice fly to plate Goodwin which allowed GM to regain the lead. After a Mark Winkel walk to load the bases again, Serkes hit a long fly ball to right center field that was tracked down for the 3rd out. The Bombers tied the game again in the bottom of the 2nd, but GM just kept hitting with consecutive singles from Mike Randall, Verbosky, and Andy Peksa. After a fielders choice led to Randall being forced out at home, Rico Alkrine got a big bases loaded walk to plate Verbosky and once again regain the lead. The Bombers finally enjoyed their first lead of the game in the bottom of the 3rd when they scored 2 runs to take a 4-3 lead. GM came back strong in the top of the 4th with lead off singles from Sclafani and Mallonee followed by a crushed 2 RBI double by Serkes that saw Mallonee score all the way from first base flying around the base paths. The Bombers refused to quit, scoring 1 run in the bottom of the 4th and another in the 5th to take a 6-5 lead. GM came back with a vengeance in the 6th inning, with Josh Vaeth pinch hitting for Winkel and getting a big 1 out single to start the rally. After Serkes flew out to left field for the second out, Boden drew a walk to have men on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs for big clean up hitter Randall who beat the 3rd baseman down the line for a game tying RBI single and astutely advanced to 2nd on the throw. With the game tied now and runners on 2nd and 3rd, the mercurial Verbosky lasered a shot down the 3rd base line that allowed Boden and a motoring Randall to score the go ahead runs. Mallonee shut down the Bombers in the 6th inning but not without a scare. The Bombers had runners at 1st and 3rd with 2 outs, but a line drive was expertly snagged by Verbosky to preserve the lead. GM was shut down in the top of the 7th, and the Bombers looked to take advantage in the bottom of the 7th when they got a lead off single. After a fly out for out 1, the #3 hitter hit a fly ball to LCF Boden who threw a frozen rope to 2nd baseman Winkel to seemingly end the game when Winkel put the tag on the runner trying to take 2nd. However, the umpire disagreed with the obvious correct call, and the Bombers got a second chance to come back. But this was quickly ended when a soft hit ground ball was scooped up by SS Serkes and fired over to first baseman Randall who made a fantastic scoop on the 1 hop to end the game.

In game 2, the Green Machine got their first win with an 8=6 victory. It was the G.M.’s first career win against the Bombers. They have a solid lineup and played great defense. Friedman started to tire in game 2 due to the 25 lbs. that he gained over Passsover. The G.M. struck for 1 in the bottom of the 1st but the Bombers came back with 2 in the bottom of the 1st. Gershon led off with a single. After a SAC fly by Georgie. B. Gutman hit an RBI single. Gardner’s RBI GO made it 2-1. The GM tied it in the 2nd on a bases loaded SAC Fly and took a 3-2 in the 3rd. The bombers came right back in the 3rd to take a 4-3 lead. Friedman walked, Gershon singled and they both scored on an error by the G.M.

The back and forth continued. The G.M. scored 2 in the 4th to take a 5-4 lead but the Bombers tied it in the bottom of the 4th. Reed led off with a triple and scored on Hochman’s SAC fly. The Bombers took a 6-5 lead in the 5th. Gershon led off with a single and Flamm’s RBI double to the fence in straightaway CF. The G.M. scored an unearned run in the 6th to knot it at 6-6 and then had 2 more score on a hard single to LF. The Bombers battled in the 7th but Gershon was stranded at 2B. It was Friedman’s first loss of the season as the Bombers moved to 4-2.
