Game 1: Nationwide Bombers 11 (WP- Tzvi Friedman 18-5)  Green Machine 9 (LP-Bob Mallonee 6-6)

Green Machine and the Bombers continued their trend of hotly contested games with a close doubleheader. The Bombers took an early 3-0 lead in the first to kick things off. GM responded by scrapping 3 runs in the 2nd with a walk from Josh Vaeth, a Billy Giles ROE, a Skyler Dickinson RBI single, and a Mark Winkel 2 RBI single. The Bombers got a run in the top of the 3rd to take a brief lead, which was erased in the bottom thanks to a Chris Goodwin lead off double, a Nick Serkes RBI single, and a Jonathan Stacey RBI single. With the Bombers tying the game in the top of the 4th, GM again answered in the bottom with Winkel getting on base with a 2 out single, followed by a Chris Romero walk and a pinch hit RBI single for Michael Bowen to take the lead back.

The relentless Bombers strung together a number of hits to put up a 3 spot in the top of the 5th and take a 2 run lead. GM again answered the call with a Serkes single, Stacey single, and a monstrous 3 run home run over the left field fence by the white Nelson Cruz (aka Mike Randall). However, the consistent Bomber bats put up another 3 runs in the top of the 6th to take a 2 run lead. After a lead off single by Goodwin and a walk by Serkes to put the tying run on base with no outs, GM could not get the necessary hits to get them back in the game and the Bombers squeaked out an 11-9 win.

GM Box Score:
Chris Goodwin: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 R
Nick Serkes: 2-2, 2 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI
Jonathan Stacey: 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI
Mike Randall: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 3 RBI
Mark Winkel: 2-3, 1 R, 2 RBI

Game 2:  Nationwide Bombers 6 (WP- Tzvi Friedman 19-5)  Green Machine 4 (LP-John Reichert 3-10)

HAfter a solid offensive performance from both teams in game 1, the sequel was more about pitching and defense. GM was able to get multiple men in scoring position in the first 2 innings, but could not get anyone to score. The Bombers got 1 run in the 2nd inning, the only run scored in the first 3 innings for either team. GM got things going in the 4th inning with a Stacey lead off double, a Billy Giles pinch hit RBI single, a double by Vaeth, and an RBI single from Winkel to take the lead. Unfortunately, GM squandered the chance at more runs when Chris Romero struck out looking with the bases loaded to end the inning. After the red devils took the lead back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th, Goodwin smoked an inside-the-park home run to left field to tie the game at 3-3. The Bombers came right back with 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th. GM was able to make things interesting in the 7th inning again after a Winkel lead off walk, Romero ROE, and an RBI single by Goodwin to score Winkel. With the tying run on the bases...again....GM was left unable to get a hit to come back....again; and the Bombers completed the sweep with a 6-4 victory.

GM Box Score:
Chris Goodwin: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI
Jonathan Stacey: 2-3, 2 2B, 1 R
Billy Giles: 1-2, 1 R, 1 RBI
Mark Winkel: 1-2, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI

Game 1: Sky & Sky Inc. 8 (WP-Jay Walle 6-4)  Outlaws 7 (LP-Larry Newman 3-15)

A number of injuries, and a late scratch left Sky & Sky with just 9 players on the day. Jay Walle held the Outlaws scoreless in the first. Sky got on the board with 2 in the first after consecutive hits to lead off the game by Eric Radom and Steve Truitt, a Sac Fly from Pat Wilcox and a 2 out RBI single from Elliot Blank. The Outlaws scored one in the 2nd inning. In the bottom of the 3rd, Holley led off with a hustle double, moved over on a fly ball by Wilcox, and then scored on a Sac fly from Blank. Sky led 3-1 at the end of the third inning. The Outlaws got two more back in the 5th to keep it close. Sky then exploded for 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th. Elliot Blank lead off with a single, Shaun Poulton doubled, Aaron Birenbaum singled to knock in a run and then Jay Walle helped his own cause with a Sac Fly. Rotts walked and after a double from Radom, Truitt hit a Sac Fly to score Rotts. The Outlaws would not go quietly in the top of the 7th, and Sky pulled out a close one, winning 8-7.

Shaun Poulton: 3-3, 2B, R
Eric Radom: 3-4, 2B, RBI, R

Game 2:  Sky & Sky Inc. 13 (WP-Jay Walle 7-4)  Outlaws 10 (LP-Larry Newman 3-16)

After winning the first game, and a Kings loss against the Natty O’s in their first game of the day, Sky & Sky pulled into 1st place, with just one regular season game to play. Sky just needed to avoid the upset. Sky was leading nearly the entire game, but the Outlaws had a big 6th inning and jumped ahead, forcing Sky to score 3 runs in the top of the 7th just to keep the game alive, and avoid dropping out of 1st place. Elliot Blank led off the top of the 7th with a single up the middle, Wilcox walked and Poulton singled to load the bases. With no outs, Jay Walle came through with a big double to left, scoring two. Aaron Birenbaum singled to tie the game up, and then Rotts came through with a double over the left fielders head, giving Sky the lead. Truitt grounded out, and then Radom doubled and Matt Holley singled. Larry Newman was able to retire the next two batters, but Sky had batted around and completed the comeback with 7 runs in the top of the 7th inning, and held a 13-9 lead. The Outlaws got one more in the bottom of the 7th with a HR over the fence, but that was the end of the scoring, with Sky holding on to 1st place by winning 13-10.
Rotts was the offensive hero for Sky, hitting the ball hard all day, and going 4-4 with 2 balls smoked over the left fielders head.
