Game 1: Green Machine 16 (WP-Bob Mallonee 3-3)  Outlaws 9 (LP-Chas West 0-1)

Green Machine and the Outlaws met for the first time in league history, and the 9 man Outlaws squad came out firing for 2 runs in the first and second innngs. Green Machine got 2 back in the bottom of the 2nd with an RBI hit from Jonathan Stacey and an RBI groundout from Pete Sclafani. The Outlaws got another run in the 3rd thanks to yet another 2 out hit, but GM was able to tie the game up at 5-5 in the bottom highlighted by a Matt Boden 2 run homerun over the center field fence. GM kept hitting after that bomb with Chris Goodwin getting an RBI single, but Mark Winkel killed the rally with bases loaded pop out to end the inning. GM took the lead in the 4th with a Nick Serkes RBI single after Josh Vaeth had hit a 2 out double. GM really started to pull away in the 5th and 6th innings where they put up 4 and 6 runs respectively. Among the string of walks and hits were 2 RBI singles from Serkes and Rico Alkrine, as well as a cameo from last year GM regular Billy Giles who smoked a double off the fence in his first at bat of the year to drive in 2 more runs. In the top of the 7th, the Outlaws strung together some solid hits and put up 4 runs, but it was not enough as GM finished the game 16-9.

In today's exciting Week 6 action on another brisk day on the diamond! The Outlaws take the field against the Green Machine with 9 players! The Outlaws get off to a quick 2-0 start, as Darnell Maxwell set it off with a one out single. Darren Stimpfle reaches base on a fielders choice. Josh Friedman follows with a double to move Stimpfle to third. David Woods rips a 2 RBI single to score Stimpfle, and Friedman. Chas West gets his first career start on the bump facing a good hitting Green Machine team. Green battles back as both teams exchange pleasantries with plenty of trash talk of course in good fun. 2-2 after the 1st. In the top of 2, Maurice Scott gets an infield single with 2 outs. Reggie Molock follows with an infield single of his own. Darnell Maxwell sends a shot up the middle for his second hit, and an RBI single score Scott. Darren Stimpfle finds a hole to get an RBI single to score Molock. Green battles back with 2 to tie the game again at 4 after 2. David Woods leads off the 3rd with a dribbler past the mound which he beats the throw to first, for his second hit of the game. 2 batters later Theo Battle sends a rainmaker to deep right center for an RBI double to score Woods. Once again in the bottom of the third Green Machine ties the game at 5, as Boden goes yard. In the top of 4, Josh Friedman drives a triple to the fence with a leadoff triple, and his second hit of the game. David Woods drives him in with an RBI single for his third hit. Green Machine bats around as they put up 8 in the bottom of inning to open up a 13-5 lead. Outlaws go quietly in the fifth and sixth. In the seventh, Maurice Scott draws a leadoff walk, as he reached base on all four plate appearances. 2 batters later Darren Stimpfle gets an RBI double to plate Scott for his second hit. Josh Friedman sends a chinger to the fence for an RBI triple to plate Stimpfle. David Woods sends a chinger of his own to the fence for an RBI triple to plate Friedman. Stanley Lyles sends a chinger of his own to the fence for an RBI double to score Woods. In case you are wondering what a chinger is, it is when you hit the ball to the fence and it makes the ching sound. The Outlaws seventh inning rally was too little too late as Green Machine takes game 1 16-9.

Chuck Grant returned to the mound for the Kings for the first time since June 9, 2013. On Saturday, June 15th, Grant tore his Achilles tendon while pitching in a slow pitch tournament. Grant pitched well in his 2014 debut limiting the Natty O's to just 6 runs in a 8-6 Kings win.

The Kings scored 3 runs in b-1st on clutch 2 out hits by Michael Kleeman (2 RBI 1B) and Troy Hendricks (RBI 1B). Natty O's cut into lead in t-2nd loading bases with 0 outs on singles by Rob Medoff and Justin Bullock, along with walk to Brad Wandell. Grant was able to retire the next 2 Natty O's hitters keeping the bases loaded, but Kris Stahle came thru with a clutch 2 out 2 RBI 1B to CF to cut Kings lead to 3-2. In b-2nd, with 2 out on 0 on, Kings again got clutch 2 out hitting. Mike Herr, Chuck Grant, and Koby Sarubin (RBI) all singled. Following a walk to Shilo Merwitz, Arin Gelletly delivered a 2 RBI 1B to LCF putting Kings ahead 6-2.

In t-5th, Stahle led off with a 2B and scored 1 out later on Jason Smulson's RBI 1B. The Kings got that run back in b-5th after an infield error, 2 walks, and a RBI fielder's choice ground out by Michael Kleeman. The teams again exchanged single runs in 6th inning with the Natty O's run coming across on a Wandell 2 out RBI 1B and the Kings run scoring on a 2 out infield error. The Kings lead after 6 innings was 8-4.

The Natty O's had no thoughts of conceding game 2. Kris Stahle, Jon Veditz, and Smulson (RBI) began t-7th with singles to bring tie run to the plate. That brought up the top of the Natty O's order. Grant was able to retire the next 2 hitters on a lineout to SS and a fielder's choice groundout. RJ Seabeck singled with 2 outs with an RBI scoring run number 6. Rob Medoff reached on an infield single to load the bases. With the tying run at 2B, Grant was able to retire Bullock on a groundout to SS Arin Gelletly who flipped to 3B Shilo Merwitz for a forceout to end the game.

Game 1: Bombers 6 (WP-Tzvi Friedman 6-3)  Northwest Corridor 2 (LP- Howard Goldberg 3-3)

The Bombers knew they had their work cut out for them, going up against the 2012 League Champions Northwest Corridor, who had a few players out, but didn’t deter from their dangerous lineup. Bombers were missing 4 players as well including manager Rabbi Dave, but were covered by new recruits Shuey Goldstein and Jacob Switzer. NWC jumped on the scoreboard first leading 1-0. In top 2, The Bombers rallied after one out with a Jason Gardner single, then Maier and Shulie walked, loading the bases. Tzvi popped out to 2nd base leaving newcomer Switzer with the unenviable task of showing what he’s got in his 1st Bomber at bat having bases loaded and 2 out. With 2 strikes, Jacob roped a missile up the middle plating 2 runs and the lead. Bombers scored again in top 3 when leadoff hitter Mike walked, Zach singled, and Flamm mashed a double scoring Mike. NWC pitcher Howard Goldberg kept the Bombers quiet for 3 innings until the 6th, when Jason started the inning with a single. With 1 out, consecutive walks loaded the bases for newcomer Goldstein, who scorched a line drive to right center that should have been handled but was dropped and 3 runs scored, leaving the score at 6-2. Tzvi and the Bombers kept their staple of pitching and defense to close out the game, ending the game with a 4-6-3 double play.

Game 2:  Bombers 6 (WP-Tzvi Friedman 7-3)  Northwest Corridor 5 (LP- Ted Winner 4-2)

Bombers highlights game 2 - In game 2, Bombers faced veteran Ted Winner who pitched a gem, allowing only 3 baserunners through 6. He was lights out for 6 innings, shutting out the Bombers and leaving them with the bottom of the 7th inning as their last chance to come back from a 5-0 deficit. The deficit was only 2-0 through 5 but NWC’s Upshur Webb padded the lead launching a 3 run home run to straight away center in the top of the 6th to give NWC the 5-0 lead. In the bottom of the 7th, Ben led off with a walk, and with one out, Jason singled. Winner retired the next batter leaving the Bombers with 2 out and runners on 1st and 2nd. Clutch hitting produced 5 straight singles from Tzvi, Jacob, Shuey, Gabe and Mike, locking it up at 5-5. Still 2 out, left handed hitter Zach came up with the winning run at 2nd, but lined out to left sending the game into extra innings. NWC went down in their top half of the 8th, giving the Bombers a no lose situation in the bottom half. They picked up where they left off with 3 straight singles from Ben, Flamm and Jason. With no out, Shulie hit a walk off opposite field line drive single that was almost spectacularly caught, but the run probably would have scored anyway, 6-5.
