2015 Pikesville Men's Softball League Standings, Schedule, Highlights and Scores

Week #2 -- April 19, 2015

Highlights submitted thus far by Kings, LOFT, Natty O's, Thunderbirds, NWC, Outlaws

Northwest Regional Park Field 1:    Umpire- Reggie Grant
Game 1: Natty O's 17 (WP-RJ Seabeck 2-1)  LOFT 7 (LP-Mark Winkel 0-1)

L.O.F.T. showed up in week 2 looking to continue the momentum they built in a week 1 sweep over the Outlaws. L.O.F.T. was missing one of their aces, Bob Mallonee and had to look to Mark Winkel to start game 1. As teams have come to expect the umpiring on field 1 was inconsistent at best. Lots of walks by Winkel combined with good hitting by the Natty O’s and mental mistakes by L.O.F.T. led to the Natty O’s jumping out in front early and never looking back. L.O.F.T. tried to make it interesting late by cutting the score to 11-6, but the Natty O’s hung up 6 in the top of the 7th to put the game out of reach.

The O's bats were a lot hotter than the weather early on Sunday as they jumped all over starter Mark Winkle and got out to a 10-0 lead by the top of the 4th inning.  A Brad Wandell double and Justin Bullock single in the first helped put the Natty O's up by 5 runs early on.  Frank DiVincenzo was the catalyst of game 1, singling in each of the first 3 innings in route to a 5 hit game.  RJ Seabeck picked up where he left off last week, extending his scoreless inning streak to 11 innings before LOFT broke through with 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th.  LOFT would try and claw back with another 4 runs in the 5th but the Natty O's put the game away in the top of the 7th book ending the game with 5 run innings, this time capped off after an intentional walk to RJ Seabeck to load the bases for Matt Bratter who came through with a 3 run triple to put the nail in the coffin.

Natty O's Offensive Leaders:
Frank DiVincenzo: 5-5, 4 Runs
Matt Bratter:  2-4, 3RBI, 3 Runs, 3B, BB
Brad Wandell: 2-3, 2B, 4 RBI, BB
Justin Bullock:  2-4, 3 RBI, 2 Runs, BB
RJ Seabeck: 1-2, 2 BB, 2 RBI, 3 Runs
Greg Barr: 3-4, 2 RBI
John Murphy:  1-3, 2 BB, 2 Runs, RBI

Game 2:   Natty O's 8 (WP-RJ Seabeck 3-1)  LOFT 7 (LP-John Reichert 1-1)  8 Innings

L.O.F.T. looked to bounce back from a poor pitching performance in game 1 by looking to John Reichert. It was a battle of good pitching and defense in game 2. Both teams traded runs and the lead multiple times throughout the game. Both teams had a chance in the 7th inning to get the lead, but both teams failed to do so. The game had to go into the 8th inning, which put into play the new extra innings rules that took numerous sleepless nights by the PMSL brain trust to put together. 1-1 count after 1-1 count finally resulted in a walk off victory for the Natty O’s when they were able to string a few hits together capped off by a monster blast to deep RCF by the Natty O’s 3rd baseman.

The Natty O's would once again jump out to an early 4-1 lead, once again led by catalyst Frank DiVincenzo who reached base for the 6th consecutive at bat. That would be followed up by 3 straight singles from RJ Seabeck, Matt Bratter and Justin Bullock. The game would become a see=saw battle from that point on. LOFT would put up 3 runs in the top half of the 3rd to take a 5-4 lead but the O's would tie the game in their half of the 4th inning with John Christy leading off the inning with a walk and smart base running by Greg Barr to take home on an overthrow. LOFT would retake the lead however in the top of the 5th but the lead wouldn't last for long when Matt Bratter tripled then scored on a ground out. LOFT would then tie the game for the 3rd time in the top of the 7th and force the game into extra innings when the O's went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning. RJ Seabeck battled out of tough jams all day and none was more important than in the top of the 8th, giving the O's a chance to win the game with a single run. Nick Meyer's first hit of the season couldn't have come at a better time when he started the inning off with a single. RJ would follow that up with anotehr single and Matt Bratter would put the game away with a shot over the right center fielders head scoring Meyer easily from second base and giving the Natty O's their first sweep of 2015.

Natty O's Offensive Leaders:
Matt Bratter: 4-4, 3B, 2 runs, 3 RBI including the game winner in the 8th.
Justin Bullock: 1-3, 3 RBI, Run
RJ Seabeck: 2-4, Run
John Christy: 1-2, BB, Run

Jon Herbst, Tom Blumenauer and Up Webb each started the game with a hit to plate one run and a Brad Rosenberg launched a deep sac fly to centerfield for the 2nd run. More of the same in the 2nd inning as NWC batted around and Rosenberg, Blumenauer and Herbst all had 2rbi hits. The Outlaws had their own big inning in the 3rd, but that would be all of the offense against Goldberg and NWC as they tallied 9 more runs over the next 3 innings and NWC defeated the Outlaws 17-7 to start the doubleheader.

Big time action on Field 2 between the Outlaws vs. Northwest Corridor. The Outlaws come out the blocks with a 2 spot in the top of the 1st. Reggie Molock gets the Outlaws off to a good start drawing a leadoff walk. Maurice Scott singles. David Woods also draws a walk loading the bases for Josh Friedman with no outs. Friedman gets an RBI sac fly scoring Molock to put the Outlaws on the board 1-0. 2 batters later Theo Battle gets an RBI single scoring Scott to put the Outlaws up 2-0. NWC ties it up at 2 in the bottom half. NWC gets 6 more to go up 8-2 in the bottom of the 2nd.

The Outlaws fight back in the 3rd with 5 of their own. Maurice Scott leads off with a walk. Josh Friedman drives him in with an RBI single. Tony Wiggs hits a shot to the gap for an RBI triple scoring Friedman. Wiggs has battled back from a serious foot injury that sidelined him for 2 years, and has battled back to be a big piece of the puzzle for the Outlaws franchise. Darnell Maxwell gets in on the fun with an RBI single of his own to score Wiggs. Martiez Reed caps off the rally with his first career PMSL homerun, with a 2 RBI inside the park home run to cap off the 5 run inning for the Outlaws.
