Game 1: Kings 15 (WP-Mike Herr 6-3) LFOT 10 (LP-Kenny
Kreyling 6-5)
L.O.F.T. arrived at the fields on a beautiful Sunday morning looking to get out to a good start offensively against Mike Herr. They were able to do that in the top of the 1st inning by scoring 3 runs, highlighted by a 2 out 2 RBI single by Mark Winkel. Kreyling took the mound in game 1 looking to continue a successful rookie season on the mound. Kreyling was able to get out of a 1st inning jam and keep the Kings off the board to give L.O.F.T. a 3-0 lead after 1. L.O.F.T. was not able to mount any offense in the top of the 2nd and the Kings got the bats going in the bottom of the 2nd as they scored 5 runs to take a 5-3 lead after 2. L.O.F.T. tied the game at 5 in the top of the 3rd inning highlighted by a Luke Higgins inside the park home run. The Kings kept the bats going in the bottom of the 3rd inning as they hung up a 4 spot and took a 9-5 lead. The Kings never looked back as they cruised to a 15-10 victory in game 1.
Trailing 3-0 after 1 1/2 innings, the Kings batted around in b-2nd scoring 5 runs. Sam Aydukovic RBI 1B, Kenny Salzman 2 out RBI 1B and Shilo Merwitz 2 out 3 RBI 3B produced the runs. Kings tacked on 4 more runs in b-3rd on SF by Aydukovic and Salzman with 2 more runs scoring on 2 out misplayed flyball in the outfield. The potent LOFT offense continued to produce runs along the way to keep the game close. Kings lead was 9-6 after 3 1/2 innings.
In b-4th, Kings Jan Katzen and Troy Hendricks reached
on errors and capitalized as Glenn Savage lined 2 RBI 1B into LCF. Kings
extended lead with 3 runs in b-5th on SF by Merwitz and RBI 1B by Katzen. A
SF by Larry Dechter in b-6th, the Kings 4th SF in the game, scored Troy
Hendricks to put Kings lead at a safe 15-7. LOFT however was not ready to
give up. 3 runs in t-7th narrowed final score to 15-10.

Game 2: LOFT 8 (WP-Andy Peksa 1-0) Kings 5 (LP-Shilo Merwitz 1-2)
After another loss to the Kings, Skipper Andy Peksa only
had 1 option and that was for him to toe the rubber for the 1st time all year in
an attempt to do what he has not done since 2007, pitch his team to victory over
the Kings. The Kings sent Neil Diamond’s favorite PMMSL player, Shilo, to the
mound in game 2. Peksa came out throwing nothing but strikes in the top of the
1st inning and it worked as he kept the Kings scoreless in the inning. After a
Luke Higgins 1 out double, Nick Serkes drove him in with 2 outs to give L.O.F.T.
a 1-0 lead after 1. Peksa broke his streak of not throwing any balls in the 2nd
inning, but managed not to walk anyone. The Kings however, were able to put some
hits together and tie the game up at 1-1. In the bottom of the 2nd inning
L.O.F.T. was able to plate 2 runs to take a 3-1 lead after 2. The Kings cut the
lead in half in the top of the 3rd inning with a run of their own. In the bottom
of the 3rd inning L.O.F.T. was able to plate 3 runs behind a Kenny Kreyling 2
RBI single and a Mark Winkel RBI fielder’s choice making the score 6-2 after 3.
The Kings once again scored a single run in the top of the 4th inning to make it
6-3 L.O.F.T. Shilo shut the L.O.F.T. bats down in the bottom half of the inning
keeping them off the board the only time all game. The Kings nudged closer in
the top of the 5th inning by plating 2 runs and making it now a 6-5 L.O.F.T.
lead. L.O.F.T. got 1 of the runs back in the bottom half of the inning after 3
consecutive hits to right field with the single by Kreyling driving in the run.
Now up 7-5 L.O.F.T. looked to hold the Kings scoreless and go put up some more
runs. Peksa kept throwing strikes and the L.O.F.T. defense kept making nice
plays behind him as they kept the Kings scoreless in the top of the 6th.
L.O.F.T. looked to add insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. They were
able to add a run to their lead after Darryl Bingham hit one off the wall, it
scored Randall from first, but Bingham was thrown out trying to stretch it into
a triple by a nice relay throw from the Kings. In the top of the 7th, Peksa knew
exactly what he needed to do to earn the victory, keep throwing strikes. The
Kings who were desperate for base runners knew they were going to have to earn
them, as Peksa was not going to issue any free passes. The Kings were able to
get 1 single in the inning, but the other 3 batters were retired and L.O.F.T.
earned the victory and the split in game 2.

Game 1: Nationwide Bombers 21 (WP-Tzvi Friedman 14-3)
Sharks 7 (LP- Bob Mallonee 3-13)
The Nationwide Insurance Bombers had little to play for
as they had already sewn up the division title the week before. Their opponent
was a much improved Sharks team who have gotten better every week. The Bombers
were without Tzvi, Loeb, Yoyo and , Taz . Game 1 was a blowout 21-7. The Bombers
jumped out to a quick 6-0 1st inning lead. Gershon Y and Sam Luxenberg opened
with singles and Ben G hit an RBI single to make it 1-0. Flamm singled and then
Jason Gardner hit a 2 run single. Hochman’s SF made it 4-0 and Dan G and Chaim
followed with RBI doubles for the 6-0 lead. Gershon Y pitched for the Bombers
and kept the Sharks lineup off balance all day.
In the 2nd, Luxenberg’s
triple made it 7-2. The Sharks threatened in the 3rd but Uri Rabinowitz made
back to back great defensive plays to hold off a potential rally. The Bombers
tacked on 5 more in the 4th to take a commanding 12-2 lead. Gabe Silber and Max
Cantor hit one out singles and Yakobovitch helped his own cause with a 2 run
double. Luxenberg’s RBI single, Ben G’s double and Flamm’s SF made it 12-2. The
Sharks battled back with 2 in the 4th and 2 in the 5th to make it 13-7. With one
out in the 6th, Luxenberg had his 4th hit of the game. Ben G drove him home with
a triple, Flamm’s single made it 15-7, Gardner’s triple made it 16-7, and Dan
G’s single made it 17-7. The Bombers put 4 more on the board in the 7th to close
the scoring at 21-7. Big blows were Gershon’s RBI double, Luxenberg’s 5th hit of
the game ( a 2 run double) and Flamm’s RBI single.
Game 2: Sharks 14 (WP-Bob Mallonee 4-13 ) Nationwide Bombers 9 (LP- Jason Gardner 0-1)
In game 2, Flamm and Rabinowitz had to leave so the
Bombers were shorthanded and the Sharks wasted no time jumping on game 2 starter
Gardner. The Sharks scored 2 in the 1st but the Bombers tied it up in the bottom
of the 1st. The Sharks took a 7-2 lead in the 3rd and Ben Gutman came into pitch
for the 1st time in the Pikesville league. The Bombers battled back with 2 in
the 3rd on a Luxenberg RBI single and a Ben Gutman SF. Dan G’s RBI triple and
Max Cantor’s RBI single cut the Sharks lead to 7-6 and after Chaim C doubled,
Shulie H gave the Bombers the lead at 8-7 on a 2 run RBI double.
Manager,
Dave Finkelstein had his 1st AB of the season in the 5th but popped out to keep
Luxenberg from scoring after his leadoff double ( his 8th hit on the day). The
Sharks showed great heart and grit by holding off the Bombers and by putting up
5 in the 7th to win 14-9.
Bombers Notes:
The Bombers would like to wish condolences to Ben and Dan Gutman on the loss of
their mom.
