an infield popout and routine flyout kept the Outlaws off the scoreboard. In

Game 2: Outlaws 6 (WP-Larry Newman 2-9) Kings 5 (LP-Jeff Harris 5-3)
The weather may have heated up for game 2, but the Kings bats were quieted by Outlaws starter Larry Newman as the Outlaws defeated the Kings in the 2nd game 6-5. Bloopers seemed to fall in for the Outlaws, while the Kings grounded out 12 times and the Outlaws were flawless in the field.
Tony Wiggs 2 out RBI 1B in b-1st gave Outlaws early lead. In t-2nd, consecutive 1 out singles by Alan Varhaftik, Troy Hendricks, and Mark Lester (RBI) knotted score 1-1. Leading off Kings t-3rrd, Sam Aydukovic 1B, Jeff Harris W, Kenny Salzman RBI 1B, and Steve Levy SF to LCF put Kings ahead 3-2. In b-3rd, with 0 outs, Billy Giles 1B, David Woods 1B, Tony Wiggs RBI 2B, and Theo Battle RBI SF to RCF toed score. Nate followed with RBI 1B to give Outlaws 4-3 lead. The Outlaws remained in the lead 6-4. In t-7th, with 1 out, Brett Eisenberg, Sam Aydukovic, and Jeff Harris (RBI) singled to pull Kings to within 6-5 with runners on 1st and 2nd base. Game 1: Nationwide Bombers 10 (WP-Tzvi Friedman 12-3) Northwest
Corridor 1 (LP-
Howard Goldberg 7-3)
On a week where both the Nationwide Insurance Bombers and
NWC had several regulars missing, the Bombers swept the doubleheader by the
scores of 10-1 and 12-10. Tzvi Freidman came away with both wins while Howard
Goldberg and Ted Winner took the loses. With 4 games remaining, the Bombers need
to win one of their 4 final games to win the division title.
In game 1
the Bombers took a 2-0 in the bottom of the first. Rabinowiz led off with a
single, and Taz and Jason walked to load the bases. Freidman then drew a bases
loaded walk followed by a Dan Gutman RBI single. NWC cut the lead to 2-1 in the
3rd on a deep shot to LF by Blank. That would be the only run Freidman would
give up. The Bombers tacked on 3 more runs in the 3rd to take a 5-1 lead.
Rabinowitz walked, Yoyo reached on a 2 base error and Ben Gutman walked to load
the bases. Taz hit a 2 run single and Jason Gardner’s SF made it 5-1. The
Bombers put the game away in the 4th on a grand slam off the bat of Yoyo
Strauss. The Bombers were helped defensively by RF Max Cantor who was making his
league debut. With the bases loaded, Cantor made a great diving catch by the RF
line turning on the speed to end the potential rally. Cantor’s first RBI in the
6th closed the scoring. Jacob Zelaya made his league debut and played well. Brad
Eyler came back to the Bombers after a 2 year hiatus and played a solid 3rd
base.
Game 2: Nationwide Bombers 12 (WP-Tzvi Friedman 13-3) Northwest Corridor 10 (LP- Ted Winner 5-5)
In game 2, Winner took the mound and the Bombers promptly
scored 6 in the top of the 1st. His defense didn’t help with 3 errors that
helped keep Bomber rally’s alive. Key hits in the inning were a Yoyo double , a
Taz single, another bases loaded walk to Fearsome Freidman, an Eyler SF and a
Zelaya run scoring single. NWC got 1 back in the bottom of the 1st but the
Bombers scored again on Yoyo’s 2nd HR of the game in the 2nd.
NWC showed
their championship pedigree by scoring 4 in the 2nd hit ( big 2 run double by
Teddy) and 5 in the 3rd to take a 10-7 lead. Winner also hit a 2 run double in
the 3rd. Jason Gardner made a great defensive play at 1st to hold the NWC lead
to 3. The Bombers tied it at 10-10 with 3 in the 5th. Yoyo doubled, Ben G
singled and then TAZ hit a 3 run HR. The Bombers had the bases loaded with 1 out
but Teddy pitched out of trouble. NWC also loaded the bases in the bottom of the
6th but Freidman induced Silverman to fly out to RCF.
Taz led off the
7th with a key triple. Gardner walked and Freidman hit what turned out to being
a game winning single. Gabe Silber chipped in with a key SF to push the lead to
12-10. NWC threatened but Freidman held on.
Note: Freidman earned both
wins and had both game winning RBI’s, the first time that has happened in the
Bombers history.
