Highlights submitted thus far by Kings, Bombers, Outlaws

Northwest Regional Park Field 1:    Umpire- Reggie Grant
Game 1: Nationwide Bombers 13 (WP-Tzvi Friedman 7-0)  Sharks 0 (LP-Bob Mallonee 1-6)  5 Innings

The weather reports were ominous and very few members of the league believed that we would be playing ball on Sunday. However, the weather held out and we stepped onto the fields for the first time in 3 weeks. The Nationwide Insurance Bombers were trying to keep their perfect season alive against the scrappy and classy Sharks. The Bombers moved to 8-0 with a doubleheader sweep 13-0 ( 5 innings) and 13-1 ( 5 innings). Tzvi Freidman was his usual dominant self and the Bombers defense was stellar. The Bombers made no errors and have only committed 4 on the season.

The Bombers jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first. Gershon and Yoyo led off with singles and Ben Gutman drove a triple to the RF fence. After a GO, Flamm hit an RBI triple and Loeb drove Flamm home with a double.

The Bombers scored 6 more in the 2nd. Rabinowitz had an INF single, Shad doubled and Freidman helped himself with a SF. Gershon’s triple drove home Shad, Yoyo followed with an RBI double and Ben extended the lead with an RBI single making it 8-0. Taz drove home Ben with a triple off the CF fence, Flamm hit a SF, Loeb singled and Gardner hit a SF to make it 11-0. The final 2 runs came home on a 2 run single by Ben Gutman.

Game 2:   Nationwide Bombers 13 (WP-Tzvi Friedman 8-0)  Sharks  1 (LP-John Kerzner 0-1)  5 Innings

In game 2, the Bombers put up another 4 spot in the 1st to grab the lead that they wouldn’t relinquish. Gershon doubled followed by an RBI double by Yoyo. Ben hit an RBI single and after a walk to Flamm, Loeb and Freidman hit RBI singles. The Bombers increased their lead to 6-0 in the 2nd. Rabinowitz singled, Taz walked, Yoyo hit an RBI single and Ben had an RBI GO. Loeb hit a leadoff double in the 3rd on a great hustle play and came around to score on Freidman’s GO. The Sharks got on the board by scoring a run in the top of the 4th but the Bombers came right by scoring 5 more runs to make it 11-1. RBI’s were chalked up tp Ben, Loeb and Gardner ( 2 run single). The Bomber ended the game early again with a 2 run walk off HR by Gershon to close the scoring at 13-1.

Gershon hit for the cycle ( over the 2 games) . ben Gutman drove home 8 runs in the doubleheader.

Northwest Regional Park Field 3:    Umpire- Scott Snyder
Game 1: Outlaws 10 (WP-Larry Newman 1-4)  Natty O's 9 (LP- RJ Seabeck  2-5)

We finally got action on field 3 after ten tons of rain, between the Outlaws, and the Natty O's. The O's draw first blood in the top of the first with a 1-0 lead. The Outlaws come back out the blocks fast with a 5 spot. Darnell Maxwell, and Maurice Scott lead off with consecutive singles. John Roiy making his season debut, smashes a 2 RBI double into the gap scoring Maxwell, and Scott to give the Outlaws a 2-1 lead. David Woods draws a walk. William Giles singles to juice the bases for Tony Wiggs. Wiggs delivers a 2 RBI single scoring Roiy, and Woods. 3 batters later Mike Rottenberg singles in Giles to complete the 5 run inning. 5-1 after 1.

The O's get 1 to make it 5-2 after 2. In a 30 minute 3rd inning, the O's gain momentum putting up 7 runs, after an Outlaw player gets tossed, and taking an 8-5 lead after the top of 3. But Outlaws keep fighting. David Woods leads off the bottom of the 3rd with a single. William Giles hits a shot in between the outfield shift for an RBI double, to plate Woods. Wiggs draws a walk. Chas West singles. Theo Battle delivers an RBI single to score Giles and make it 8-7 O's after 3.

Larry Newman settles in keeping the O's off the board in the top of the 4th. The Outlaws keep the bats hot in the bottom of the 4th. Maurice Scott leads it off with a triple. Next batter, John Roiy hits a hard ground ball to the shortstop. The shortstop picks it, and makes a strong throw to the plate to throw out the speedy Scott, and keep the O's up a run. With Roiy on first, Woods draws a walk to make it first and second for Giles. Giles pops up to center, but not deep enough for the runners to advance. With 2 outs, Tony Wiggs steps into the box. Tony Wiggs works the count full. On the pay off pitch, Wiggs makes yardwork of a Seabeck heater over the right field fence into the yellow grass for a 3 run homer, and gives the Outlaws the lead 10-8.

The Natty O's put up 1 in the top of the 5th, to close the gap to 10-9 Outlaws. Outlaws go quietly in the bottom of the 5th. Nemo closes the door on the Natty O's in the final 2 innings, and seals game 1, 10-9.

Game 2:    Natty O's 10 (WP-RJ Seabeck 3-5)  Outlaws 9 (LP- Larry Newman  1-5)  8 Innings

In Game 2, which was yet another hard fought game. The Outlaws come out the blocks fast again. Maurice Scott leads it off with a single. Josh Vaeth, after drinking 3 muscle milks, hits a shot over the Natty O's outfield for a triple, to bring home the fleet footed Scott. John Roiy hits a sac fly into left to score Vaeth. David Woods draws a walk. William Giles hits into a fielders choice. Tony Wiggs walks. Chas West earns a walk to load em up for Darnell Maxwell. Maxwell who suffered a shoulder injury in game 1, fights through the pain, and comes up big delivering a 2 RBI bloop single to bring home Giles, and Wiggs, and give the Outlaws a 4-0 lead after the top of the 1st. In the bottom of the 1st, the O's put up 1. 4-1 after 1.

The Outlaws get a doughnut in the top of 2. Natty gets nasty in the 2nd knotting it up at 4 after 2. In the top of 3rd, David Woods hits a bomb to the fence for a leadoff triple. William Giles gets a line drive RBI single, scoring Woods, and giving the Outlaws a 5-4 lead after 3.

The Outlaws get 2 more in the top of the 4th, all with 2 outs. Maurice Scott legs out an infield single to keep the inning alive. Josh Vaeth rocks a ball into gap, and kicks it into fifth gear, for a 2 RBI inside the park home run. His first career Outlaws home run. 7-4 after the top of the 4th. In the bottom of the 4th, the Outlaws get sloppy on defense, commiting 4 errors in the inning, and timely hitting by the Natty O's, give the O's the lead 8-7. The Outlaws put up a big bagel in the top of the 5th. Natty O's get one more to pad the lead 9-7. Both teams go scoreless in the 6th.

In the top of 7th, knowing that its now or never, the Outlaws go to work. With 1 out, William Giles walks. Tony Wiggs doubles. Chas West delivers an RBI single up the middle to score Giles. Darnell Maxwell ties the game at 9, with an RBI single to scoring the hustling Wiggs. Rotts loads em up drawing a walk. Theo Battle hits a shot up the middle but a web gem by the second base robs Battle of extra bases with a great catch full extension, and then doubles up a stunned Outlaws base runner at second for a game saving double play. The Outlaws hold in the bottom of the 7th, with some great Newman pitching, and excellent defense to send the game into extra innings. Seabeck keeps the Outlaws off the board in the top of the 8th. Brad Wandell leads off the bottom of the 8th with a triple, and Seabeck drives him in the win the game for the Natty O's and earn the split.

Northwest Regional Park Field 4:    Umpire-  Mark Radom
Game 1: Kings 14  (WP-Mike Herr 2-1)  LOFT  2 (LP-Kenny Kreyling 3-2)  6 Innings

Kings and LOFT returned to the softball diamond after a 3 week absence due to a rainout and Memorial Day Holiday. Kings got plenty of baserunners early in the game vs. LOFT starter Kenny Kreyling. Runs in the 1st 4 innings had the Kings with 8-2 lead, but the lead could have been much bigger as the Kings stranded 9 baserunners thru 4 innings. Kings ended game early with 7 hit, 6 run attack in b-6th winning 14-2.

Game 2:  Kings 8  (WP-Mike Herr 3-1) LOFT 6 (LP-Jonathan Stacey 2-3) 

Kings overcame 3 run deficit after 6 innings and held on to defeat LOFT 8-6 in the nightcap. Mike Randall's 2 out RBI 1B gave LOFT 1-0 lead in b-2nd. In t-4th, following singles by Steve Levy and Shilo Merwitz, Jan Katzen's RBI 1B tied score 1-1. LOFT re-took lead with RBI 1B's in b-4th by Logan Malane and Nick Serkes, along with SF by Kenny Kreyling. LOFT extended lead 5-1 in b-5th on singles by Dana Anderson and Mark Winkel putting runners on corner with 1 out, and RBI fielder's choice groundout by Jonathan Stacey. In t-6th, Kings loaded bases with 1 out on consecutive singles by Kenny Salzman, Levy, and Merwitz. SF by Justin Cohen narrowed lead, but Kings left 2 runners on base and trailed after 6 innings 5-2.

Alan Varhaftik led off t-7th with 2B. With 1 out, Troy Hendricks singled Varhaftik home. Brandon Richmond reached on an infield error, putting the tying run on base. Brett Eisenberg walked on 4 pitches to load bases. Matt Friedman hit a SF to RF cutting lead 5-4, with Richmond and Eisenberg moving up a base on the flyout also. With 2 outs Kenny Salzman hit a liner towards the right field line. The LOFT right fielder dove, but was unable to make the catch and the ball rolled towards the fence. Salzman came all the way around the bases with a 3 RBI inside-the-park HR to give Kings 7-5 lead. Kings added an insurance run courtesy of 2 infield errors, leading 8-5 into b-7th. With 1 out, Pete Scafini doubled. Following a flyout, Mark Winkel reached on an infield hit. Jonathan Stacey hit a hard groundball that went under the glove of the Kings 2B, Sclafini scoring and runners getting to 2nd and 3rd base. With 2 on and 2 out, Kings relief pitcher Mike Herr was able to retire Logan Malane on a groundout.

Kings game notes:
Troy Hendricks returned after spending 21 months on the disabled list with a foot injury. He was forced to leave the 2014 Championship Game (August 24, 2014) with the injury and had not played since. He picked up 4 hits in his first game back.
Owings Mills High School senior Brandon Richmond made his Kings debut. Richmond contributed 3 hits offensively and played solid defense for the Kings at 2B. His high school graduation is tomorrow.
