Game 1: Nationwide Bombers 12  (WP-Tzvi Friedman 10-1)  LOFT 2 (LP- Kenny Kreyling 3-4)

The Nationwide Insurance Bombers continued to roll with a doubleheader sweep of LOFT 12-2 and 13-3. The Bombers put both games away early and Tzvi Freidman was dominating in both games shutting down LOFT’s vaunted offense. Freidman carried a no hitter into the 6th in game 1 and settled for a 3 hitter.

Big hits in game 1 was a 2 run 1st inning single by Ben Gutman, a Sam Luxenberg 4th inning HR over the LF fence, a 2 run 5th inning single by Gershon Y, a Luxenberg run scoring double in the 5th and an Uri Rabinowitz 2 run RBI single in the 5th. Ben Gutman’s and Martiez Reed ( TAZ) RBI doubles in the 7th capped the scoring.

The Bombers paid their fine after having 2 players EJECTED the week prior and before saying other teams ruin the league by arguing calls… L.O.F.T. came into game 1 looking to knock off the highest paid team in the PMMSL, the LA Dodgers of the PMMSL if you will. Being a small market team, L.O.F.T. knew it would be a challenge defeating a team with the resources to buy any player they want. The Bombers came out and hung up 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning to set the tone early. Ace pitcher Tzvi Friedman had a perfect game going until the bottom of the 4th inning when Logan Malane was able to reach base via the walk. Dana Anderson broke up the no hit bid with a base hit immediately after. Brad Verbosky, however, was not able to bring the runners in as he went down looking. With the entire team on the field, L.O.F.T. took a moment to wish pitcher Kenny Kreyling a Happy Birthday! L.O.F.T. was able to break the shut out up in the 6th inning when they plated 2 runs off a RBI double by Malane and a RBI single from Anderson. The Bombers hung up a 12 spot in the game to win game 1 easily, 12-2. After the game reporters spoke to Kreyling and he had the following to say, “It really meant a lot to me to be out on the softball field with my teammates on my birthday and to get the chance to play against such a great organization, such as the Bombers, made it an even better day.”

Offensive Stars for LOFT:
Logan Malane: 1-2; 2B, BB, RBI, R
Dana Anderson: 2-3; 2 1B, RBI
Mark Winkel: 2-3; 2 1B

Game 2:  Nationwide Bombers 13  (WP-Tzvi Friedman 11-1)  LOFT 3 (LP- Jonathan Stacey 3-4)

L.O.F.T. was hoping to bounce back and hit the ball a little bit better in game 2. L.O.F.T. jumped on the board in the 1st inning with 2 runs off of a RBI double from Mark Winkel and a Sac Fly from Jake Barnes. The Bombers got the 2 runs back in the bottom of the 1st and never looked back from there as they cruised to a 13-3 victory as Tzvi pitched another fantastic game and the SS for the Bombers robbed L.O.F.T. players of hits all day long with his flashy glove work. Despite the frustrations of an inconsistent strike zone, all day long, L.O.F.T. was all smiles before, during and after the game as they simply enjoy playing softball. L.O.F.T. is hopeful that the other teams in the league will vote to install a salary cap for the 2017 season.

LOFT scored first in game 2 thanks to some sloppy NIB’s defense but Freidman shut them down the rest of the game. Flamm’s 2 run double in the 7th tied the game at 2-2. Rabinowitz’s triple in the 2nd scored Dan Gutman who had doubled and Ben Gutman’s bases loaded walk made it 4-2. In the 3rd Luxenberg hit a double and came home on a Jason Gardner double in the RCF gap. Freidman’s SF made it 6-3, followed by Dan Gutman’s RBI single and Gershon’s RBI single to put the Bombers up 8-3. Shulie Hochman’s 2 run single in the 4th made it 10-3 and Freidman and Dan Gutman joined in the slaughter with RBI’s singles to make it 13-3. Dan Gutman made several outstanding plays at SS to slow down LOFT and push them 2 games under 500 at 6-8. The teams will be the only teams to play next week.

Offensive Stars for LOFT:
Logan Malane: 2-3; 3B, 2B, 2 R
Kenny Kreyling: 2-3; 2B, 1B

A note from Rabbi Dave:
Commissioner Howard Goldberg has done an outstanding job holding the league together. Being the commissioner is a thankless job- just ask Mike Herr. It takes many long hours working on a myriad of issues and problems. We are down to 7 teams and the future of the league is tenuous. It doesn’t help that a few teams come out arguing every call and talking trash the whole game. They seem to actually enjoy messing around instead of playing ball. It definitely is frustrating and doesn’t bode well for the future of our respected league. Everyone needs to shut up and play ball . Howard doesn’t need to babysit a bunch of grown men.
