Game 1: Northwest Corridor 21 (WP-Howard Goldberg 3-0)
Sharks 7 (LP-Bob Mallonee 1-2)
While the rest of Baltimore County & City sports took yet
another weekend off due to relentless and non-stop rain over a 2 weeks span, the
PMSL enjoyed a great Mother’s Day morning playing two doubleheaders. Very huge
shout out to Ben Gutman of the Bombers who came out Saturday night to help with
the free standing water and puddles all over our fields. Without his efforts I
don’t think we would have been able to pull off the Sunday morning field fixing.
NWC squared off against the Sharks for the 1st time in franchise
history. NWC gave pitcher Bob Mallonee and the Sharks a rude welcome as they
plated 10 1st inning runs in the top of the inning. Jon Herbst scored twice in
the inning, Elliot Blank, Joe Kramer, Brad Rosenberg, Brad Garfield and Aaron
Birenbaum all had hits go for extra bases in the inning. NWC scored 10 over the
next 6 innings to give them 21 for the game. The Sharks were always battling and
staged several rallies over the course of the game. Often just falling short of
a big inning but still managing to score 7 runs. NWC took advantage of the nice
Sunday morning breeze putting 3 balls over the fence in centerfield. Goldberg
went deep in the 4th, Webb in the 5th and Garfield in the 7th

4 Innings
The Bombers swept the Outlaws,17-2 (4 innings), and 17-14. The Bombers have scored 17 runs in 3 out of 4 games to start the season. Tzvi Friedman won both games, to move his record to 4-0. Not only was Tzvi dominant on the mound, he also had a big game at the plate. He had 4 hits on the day, and 6 RBIs, including his first homerun in the Pikesville League, over the right centerfield fence. His catcher Jason Gardner chased it down and presented it to Freidman to put in his vast trophy case.
Softball was underway on field 1 surprisingly as it
rained buckets throughout the weekend, and have the fields covered in mud
which the ground crew did a very good job so we could play ball. The Bombers
dominated game 1 lead by ace, Tzvi Friedman, who also hit one over the fence
in a 15-0 blowout in 4 innings.
Outlaws
Hitting Stars
William Giles 1-2
Game 2: Nationwide Bombers 17 (WP-Tzvi Friedman 4-0) Outlaws 14 (LP-William Giles 0-1)
Chaim Finkelstein set a Bombers record, and possibly a league record, for walking 5 times, consecutively. Manager David Finkelstein removed Freidman from game 2 with the Bombers holding a 13-2 lead. The bullpen struggled so Finkelstein brought Freidman back in to get out of a bases loaded jam and shut down the resilient Outlaws, led by Manager, Dave Woods.
In game 2, it was all out battle, as both teams was
swinging big bats. William Giles made his first career start for the
Outlaws. The Bombers put up 2 runs in the top of the 1st. The Outlaws came
right back to match 2 to tie the game. Reggie Molock gets a leadoff walk.
Hector Medina making his season debut also draws a walk. 2 batters later,
David Woods hits a bomb into left field scoring Molock, and Medina for a 2
RBI double, Woods would've had a triple but an invisible gila monster
tripped him up on his way to third, as he does a bellyflop just short of the
bag, and gets tagged out on his walk of shame back to the bench. 2-2 after
1.
The Bombers open it up in the 2nd, by putting up 11 runs, by
timely hitting, and costly walks by Giles's inexperience on the bump. In the
bottom of the 2nd, the Bombers make a pitching change by putting star
outfielder, Gershon Yakobovitch on the mound. The Outlaws start the comeback
as Chas West starts it off with a leadoff single. Darnell Maxwell walks.
Mike Rottenberg, making his Outlaws debut, loads the bases with a single,
for Maurice Scott. Scott after a great at-bat, draws a bases loaded RBI
walk. Molock also draws an RBI walk. Medina delivers an RBI single to score
Josh Vaeth, also making his Outlaws debut, also playing excellent defense in
centerfield. Theo Battle delivers a 2RBI single up the middle scoring Scott,
and Rotts. David Woods gets an RBI fielders choice, scoring Molock. William
Giles helping his cause, gets an RBI single to bring in Medina. Chas West
gets his second hit of the inning bringing in Woods. Maxwell RBI singles in
Giles to finish the 8 spot for the Outlaws. 13-10 after 2.
Giles
gives up 3 unearned on walks in the 3rd, and the Outlaws make a pitching
change to bring Larry Newman out of the bullpen. 16-10 Bombers after 3.
Newman keeps the Outlaws in the game by keeping the Bombers off the board in
top of the 4th. In the bottom of the 4th, the Outlaws get 2 as, Maurice
Scott gets a 1 out single. Reggie Molock also singles. Medina gets an RBI
single to score Scott. Battle bring in Molock with an RBI single of his own
to make it 16-12 after 4. Bombers put up 1 in the top 5th. Outlaws get one
more in the bottom of the 6th to make it 17-13 after 6.
The Outlaws
down 4 going into the bottom of the 7th looking for the comeback. Reggie
Molock gets a 1 out walk. Theo Battle singles. David Woods gets an RBI
single to bring it to 17-14 but not enough for a comeback as the Bombers
outlast the Outlaws in an epic game.
