Week #2 -- April 16, 2017
Highlights submitted thus far by Kings, LOFT, Outlaws
Northwest Regional
Park Field 3:
Umpire- Scott Snyder
Game 1: LOFT 14 (WP-Andy Peksa 1-0) Kings 13 (LP-
Jeff Harris 0-1)
LOFT came from behind to defeat the Kings in game 1 14-13. The Kings squandered an early 11-4 lead after 2 innngs, scoring just 2 runs the rest of the way. Meanwhile LOFT took advantage of sloppy Kings defense and edged closer in the middle frames before scoring 6 runs in t-6th. LOFT held a 14-12 lead into b-7th. Kings had runners on the corner with just 1 out. LOFT starter Andy Peksa was able to retire Justin Cohen on a deep RBI SF to LCF, advancing the tie run to 2nd base. LOFT elected to walk Arin Gelletly intentionally and then was able to record the final out on an infield popout.
L.O.F.T. arrived at the fields on Easter Sunday down 2
starting Outfielders due to the holiday. Jonathan Stacey would have started game
1, but due to needing him in the OF, Andy Peksa, the only pitcher on L.O.F.T.’s
roster with a victory over the Kings, took the mound. L.O.F.T. was able to jump
on the scoreboard with a 2 run inside the park Home Run by Jonathan Stacey that
just got over the head of the Kings RF. The Kings quickly tied it up with a 2
run bomb over the LF fence. L.O.F.T. was able to recapture the lead 4-2 in the
top of the 2nd with a 2 RBI triple by Pete Sclafani. This is when things turned
ugly for L.O.F.T., as the Kings plated 9 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning
off of some poor defense and timely hitting by the Kings. L.O.F.T. was now down
11-4 after 2 innings, which was familiar territory for them as they found
themselves in the same situation a week prior. L.O.F.T. plated 1 run in the top
of the 3rd off a Kenny Kreyling single to drive in Dana Anderson, who led the
inning off with a double. Peksa knew he had to do something on the mound to get
the Kings off balance, so he started dropping in changeups, causing the Kings to
get out of the offensive rhythm they had an inning prior. L.O.F.T. scored 3 more
runs in the top of the 4th inning to cut the lead to 11-8. The scored remained
that way until the Kings added 1 more run in the bottom of the 5th to make the
score 12-8 in their favor. In the top of the 6th inning L.O.F.T. had plated 2
runs and had runners on 1st and 2nd when Pitcher/ Manager Mike Herr decided to
pull himself out of the game and assuring that he would only finish with a no
decision or a win and thus avoiding his first loss on the season. Jeff Harris
came in and immediately allowed the 2 inherited runners to score off of a
Jonathan Stacey 2 RBI triple. With the game tied, L.O.F.T. was not done yet.
They tacked on 2 more runs in the inning off of an error by the 3rd baseman and
a RBI single from Brad Verbosky to take a 14-12 lead in the middle of the 6th
inning. Peksa went back to work and held the Kings scoreless in the bottom of
the 6th. L.O.F.T. was unable to plate any insurance runs in the top of the 7th.
The Kings were able to get a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th to cut the
lead to 14-13 and move the runner up to 2nd base with 2 outs. L.O.F.T. elected
to walk Kings Superstar, Arin Gelletly, and pitch to the next batter. This was a
risky move, as the winning run was now on base, but Peksa was able to get the
next batter to pop out to end the game. It was L.O.F.T.’s 2nd consecutive win
over the Kings dating back to last year. It also was Peksa’s 3rd win over the
Kings in his career.

Kings starter Jeff Harris was able to limit the potent LOFT offense to just 6 hits as the Kings took the nightcap 16-2 in 5 innings. The Kings again went out to a large lead early in the game, leading 4-0 after 1, 5-0 after 2, and then 10-0 after 3 innings. LOFT was able to get 2 runs on the scoreboard in b-4th, but the Kings exploded for 6 hits and 6 more runs in t-5th assuring the victory.
L.O.F.T. looked to earn a sweep on this beautiful Easter Sunday. Kreyling toed the rubber looking to keep the momentum from his pitching performance the week before, but due to very poor defense on L.O.F.T.’s part, it was simply not their game. The Kings capitalized on the errors and got out to a commanding lead. Harris was locked in for the Kings as he held L.O.F.T. to 2 runs highlighted by a Logan Malane inside the park solo Home Run. The Kings made short work of L.O.F.T. by winning the game in 5 innings. The good news was everyone was able to get home for family Easter activities in a timely manner.
