2018 Pikesville Men's Softball League Standings, Schedule, Highlights and Scores

Week #1 -- April 15, 2018

Highlights submitted thus far by LOFT

Northwest Regional Park Field 1:    Umpire-
Game 1: LOFT 24 (WP-Andy Peksa 1-0)  Outlaws 8 (LP- Larry Newman 0-1)

L.O.F.T. was excited to get the PMMSL season started, but due to the weather they had not had a chance to practice all offseason. Everyone was picking up a bat and a ball for the first time since last year. L.O.F.T. elected to be the home team in game 1 and Peksa was able to retire the Outlaws batters in the top of the 1st without giving up any runs despite Mark Winkel dropping a routine fly ball to start the game. The L.O.F.T. bats came out on fire in the bottom of the 1st inning as they rattled off 7 straight hits and ended up plating 8 runs in the inning. The Outlaws got 2 in the top of the 2nd, but L.O.F.T. was able to win another inning in the bottom half by plating 3 more runs. The Outlaws added 4 in the top of the 3rd to make it an 11-6 ballgame. L.O.F.T. however would not allow their lead to slip any further as they sent 18 batters to the plate in the bottom of the 3rd and scored 13 runs to take a 24-6 lead. L.O.F.T. was able to hold the Outlaws to 2 runs in the top of the 4th giving them a 24-8 victory in just 4 innings. L.O.F.T. made some offseason improvements by adding Mike Schwartz, Will Franklin and Phil Gilotte. They combined to go 7-9 with 7 runs scored, 6 RBI, 5 1B and 2 2B in game 1.

Game 2: LOFT 21 (WP-Kenny Kreyling 1-0)  Outlaws 5 (LP- John Kerzner 0-1)

L.O.F.T. looked to keep their hot bats going in game 2. They were not able to do so as they scored no runs in the top of the 1st inning. Kreyling made his season debut on the mound by recording 6 outs in the 1st inning, however only 3 of the outs counted because the other 3 ended up being errors that led to 5 Outlaws runs. L.O.F.T. scored 4 in the top of the 2nd off of 5 consecutive singles to cut the Outlaws lead to just 1. Kreyling then got locked in on the mound as he realized the best way to avoid disaster like the 1st inning, was to throw fly ball pitches that would end up landing in Phil’s glove in LCF, as Phil would go on to record the next 7 outs. L.O.F.T. scored 3 in the top of the 3rd to take a 7-5 lead. L.O.F.T. dealt the dagger in the top of the 4th inning, when 14 straight batters reached base and all scored to give them a 21-5 lead. Kreyling induced a 1-6-3 double play in the bottom of the 4th to end the inning and the game. With the sweep, L.O.F.T. sits in sole possession of 1st place in the Pikesville Men’s Modified Softball League.
