The Bombers won the PMSL Regular Season Title and PMSL Tournament for the 3rd consecutive season. The Natty O's were appearing in their first Championship Game. The Nationwide Insurance Bombers won their 3rd consecutive Pikesville Men’s Softball League championship by defeating the Natty O’s 11-5. The Bomber’s finished with a PMSL record of 20-1. In what is believed to be a national softball record, the Bombers were 2 runs away from having a perfect record.( their only loss came at the hands of ever- improving La Familia, 3-2.) Special kudos to team owner David Flamm for putting out the best team that would make his company look good. Manager, David Finkelstein , carefully wove together a very talented, skilled and sometimes volatile ball club into the winning machine it has become. With this 3rd consecutive championship to his credit, Finkelstein moved his finals record to 3-9. Howie Friedman cemented his place as a hall of fame pitcher in the league by turning in a 2.12 ERA ( a full run higher than Bog Gibson’s 1.12 ERA in 1968- before all the Bomber’s were born except Gabe and Dave) and has challenged umpire, Jeff Kurland , to bring his “old” team back to the league so that we can end his fantasy every Sunday of thinking- “my team the Cannon’s would have killed these clowns.” Friedman also set the league record- most consecutive games of arriving at the ball park at 8:59 ( everyone on the Outlaws were tied for 2nd) The Bomber’s experienced catcher, Jason Gardner kept Friedman under control and was a menacing bat in the lineup. Swiss army knife, Ben Gutman played everywhere in the field- whatever the manager needed from him. The infield of Flamm, Dan Gutman, Chaim Finkelstein and Shulie Hochman were spectacular. The outfield of Gershon , Sam, Yoyo and Uri were world caliber, running everything down that the opposition hit. Max, Paul, Moshe and Ezra were valuable reserves and awesome vet, Gabe Silber, was a constant resource ands a voice of reason. Who would have thought?? |
